I have one! I have to say it's-at least for me-perfect, does more than everything I'd hoped for and the dual outputs are awesome, really helps me get the sound that rumbles and screams. For the gigs that have to be more relaxed then that's fine too, it can be rich and mellow... I should be on commission!! By the way, does anyone know of a non-adjustable strap? Or at least material that I could have cut to size to suit me?
......Ayup lee;..how about a length of leather...mike
Edit: *** Sold subject to the usual *** Needs must .. For sale my gorgeous 2007 Shuker 5 string Bolt On White Ash body with a Camphor Wood cap and headstock front. 34 inch scale Maple neck and fingerboard Carbon rods in the neck and a satin finish. 21 frets 19 mm string spacing Flat and wide neck Nordstrand DC5 pickups with the Serial option (switchable), Jon Shuker 3 band EQ with trimmable centre point for the middle control Very wide range of tones available. Orange LED sidemarkers. The switch is on the back. Comes with Elixirs and a Shuker signature Hiscox Liteflite case. Finished in November 2007 and very low mileage. I think it's only done 3 or 4 gigs. Build diary starts here Pictures are here and here .. It was made for playing but my Shuker P5 fits me so well that this beauty cannot complete. I really am best suited to simple basses ... so this is just not getting played and that's just not right. I'm in Cardiff but can travel to deliver.
I see what you mean. Although he had formal music education, I bet Andy Fraser wasn't thinking about scales technically when he came up with those riffs, he just played what he thought sounded good - and it does!
....Yes,I'd forgotten how good the band was;...Didn't know he'd[Fraser] had formal music training though...Cheers..
Almost.. sounds to me like he's using E mixolydian with added major 7, like a dominant bebop scale, and D lydian..
.....But to me, the D# is a non-essential tone linking D to E, as is the A# that occurs on the same chord[e7], and linking A to B....Played in isolation, they're way 'out', and they only work[for me] when ascending........
Please let me know if these are any use in helping to answer your question- http://wheatsbassbook.org/chapter_select.php?chapter=009 http://rockbass-beginnertoproinfourweeks.com/LESSONS/7.HTM "Mr. Big" (either the original done by Free or the later Mr. Big version) *Check out where the bass goes at about 3:50 here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FhCilozomo Both of these bass lines are classics but contain amazing examples of the pentatonic scale being put to good use.
.....................Is he not playing a straight A major scale, [Mixolydian & Lydian modes]??

A book I found quite useful was Ron Middlebrooks 'Scales & Modes In the beginning'..Lots of ideas and lots of great sounding scales from around the globe; My version was Treble Clef....
I think he's a bit of a retard. Fair play for having a view and sticking to it. But he's Jeff Berlin. He's done nothing musically of interest to me EVER. There are plenty of musicians who took the short cuts, who didn't learn to read, who interest me musically in almost everything they do. Some of these guys have no real technical skill, I just like what they do. Also, Jeff Berlin seems to have the view that if your not learning to read then you shouldn't be playing an instrument. What about the countless people who are happy blindly fumbling around in their bedrooms just for the fun of it? What about those gigging musicians who go out of a saturday night with their covers band for a laugh and a bit of beer money. Not everyone wants to be a mulletted, hi-tech wearing git like him. He always sounds very bitter about the fact that there are countless "lesser" bass players who have much more success than he does. Mention Jeff Berlin outside of the bass community and you'll get one response; "who?"
.........................ABSOLUTELY!.ALTHOUGH I'M THE THEORETICAL TYPE, I KNOW LOTS OF SELF TAUGHT PLAYERS[SOME WHO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY'RE DOING,AND SOME WHO DON'T HAVE A CLUE] WHO KICK ASS; I ALSO KNOW LOTS OF GRADUATE MUSOS WHO SUCK!!...THANK GOODNESS THE BEATLES REFUSED THE OFFER OF SOME FORMAL MUSICAL EDUCATION!!!
I've sent out a vast number of copies of these exercises to various forumites. I was wondering if you could share how you've been finding them. Even if you've not been using them or not got very far, I (for one!) would like to know. Mark P.S. If anyone else would like a copy please feel free to PM me with a request and your email so I can forward the documents and some tips/advice on how to best make use of them.
..................First of all, many thanks for mailing me with the exercises; I too find them a wee bit on the boring side!! Personally I reckon there's much more to be learned from Bachs inventions/preludes and fugues - all keys major & minor, useful lines that you can actually utilise..You also get to learn a little about Form..Cheers

I bought this on account of its light weight & playability...Basswood/Maple/Rosewood..Well made-Indonesian I believe..Exc cond with NO issues..Only downside is the usual scenario i.e. low output pups, which I initially intended to upgrade; GAS then intervened, and a few more Basses later, here am I yet again wondering what the hell am I doing with all these Toys..This is one of a few I plan to move on........Have used this on various occasions without backup, including shows and It's totally reliable...Anyone with a couple of 5 string pups lying around, could do a lot worse! £125:£140 posted.............................................................................................. .........NOW £100/£120 posted
