Fender Squier Precision Project, needs pup.

I've got a non-export one and love it. Probably the nicest bass to play, that I've ever owned. I swapped out the standard P pup for a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, just to give it a bit more umph. It's a Jazz with attitude, and for me, the grunt of a P without the thick neck. I change basses all the time, just to try out new stuff, but my Aerodyne is definitely one of my 'keepers' Had a lovely looking US Jazz for a few months, but found it very bland sounding.

With a new arrival on the doorstep, it's time to move this fella onto a new home. I originally got it as a bog standard Squier VM fretless jazz, but over the past couple of years, I've added/modded/upgraded it to its current form. It has........... Squier VM Jazz body W-Music Fender Licenced unlined fretless neck with real ebony fingerboard Fender pups (I was told they were off a Geddy Lee, but have no way of confirming) Gotoh 201 bridge Big paper-in-oil tone cap Unbranded generic tuners Rotosound Trubass black nylon coated strings Fake 60's Fender logo In full working order and Grade A condition - the lacquer spray job on the headstock is the only slight let down, as it's chipped away in a couple of places, but you need to be close to notice it. The marking on the back is the wood, not the finish. Plays well, with loads of mwwaaaaaaaahhhhh Yours for £225 with insured delivery to a UK address Plenty more photos here http://s1304.photobu...ow/Bitsa%20Jazz

Swapped my Retrovibe for Martin's Westone. Easy as an easy thing. Fantastic quality bass. If you haven't already realised, he's a good bloke to deal with Cheers matey :-)

Get all the song keys sorted and agreed in advance. Nothing is more frustrating than learning a bunch in one key, only to have to change on the day because the singer (usually) can't sing them.

I have one which sits in our lounge so that I can easily pick it up and practice scales and arpeggios during the dull bits of TV programs. It's a narrow bodied Ashbury, which sounds quite nice with a set of flats on it. I did have a jumbo body sized one once - it didn't stay long. Got swapped for a Squier VM fretless jazz.

I never got my TB500 above half way on the Master, even with a drummer who used mallets and a guitard stuck on 11 The valve 'issue' depends on when you want it to start sounding dirty. The stock ECC83's will start to go at about 30-40% of max gain. Swap them out for ECC82's and you can stay clean until about 60-70% of full gain Yes, the 1000 will destroy your cab faster than the 500, but on a pub gig, the 500 will have cleared the place of punters with bleeding ears long before you've got it near full volume

There should be a law that all bass players should own a TB500 for some part of their lives. You may not keep it forever, but you'll have fun while you own it. I've had a few months of fun with mine, and have moved on to pastures new, so it's time to spread the Orange love to someone else. Condition is as close to mint as you can get. No scratches, dents or dings anywhere on it. Full, village destroying, working order. Complete with original Orange carry bag. Following some advice on here, I swapped out the original JJ ECC83 valves for some JJ ECC82's which let you turn the gain to about 60% before it noticeably starts to break up. The 83's start to go at about 30-40% of full. If you like it snarling like a rottweiller with toothache, then it's about 10 mins work to refit the 83's Not much else to say really. Those that have owned one will know what these mad little boxes can do. Yours for £375 delivered to a UK address. Happy to get quotes for foreign lands. Bit cheaper if you don't want the valves, or can collect from Truro or St Austell, Cornwall

if you put it in a rack, you can't use it for warming that all important set break croisssant - and then where will you be when hunger strikes during the 3rd song of set 2??????

Changing Valves in an Ashdown 220 Touring combo
davehux replied to vmaxblues's topic in Amps and Cabs
You may well have metal caps over the valves, which are normally a bayonet fitting like a light bulb socket. Push down lightly and give a quarter turn anticlockwise to release -
The TTE is certainly light - about 14lb. It's a 4 valve preamp/compressor with an analogue solid state power amp. Sits nicely on my BF Super 12T - about the same width, but half the depth so it doesn't catch the handle on the top rear of the cab. It's covered in perforated metal grille, so you can see the valves and a load of small LEDs glowing nicely inside:-)

I've just bought a new TTE500 from Thomann, as I missed out on a s/h one here and their price was only a bit more with a 3 year warranty. It arrived on Friday, so I've only had a short time with it and have been A/B'ing it with my Orange TB500. Volume wise, they can both demolish small villages. Soundwise, I feel that the TE has a more 'complex' sound. I've never used a compressor before, but adding a bit of it seemed to sharpen up the sound. Adding more and more gain puts a small amount of grit into the tone, without it breaking up suddenly like the TB does. I've had a Markbass LM2 and an F1 before now, and left the VLE control off, as it seemed to muddy the sound. On the TTE, the Colour control is supposed to be similar to VLE, and again, adding a bit of it seemed to enhance the sound. Full on, it did sound muddy and dull. Hope this is of use

If you want to be successful, do you have to dress up?
davehux replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Never made us a success although I doubt the dressing up would be enough to polish our musical turd.
Never the forget the wise words... "You can't polish a turd, but you can cover it in glitter" -

I know some of you think kind things towards Wishbass, so I will only say that in my own humble and personal opinion This is a crock of sh*t http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Fretless-5-String-Resonator-Wishbass-with-J-bass-Pickup-Free-Ship-in-48-/131065486778?pt=Guitar&hash=item1e841c9dba

Another of my 'buy em, try em, sell em' basses 1986 Westone Thunder 1A Active Bass. Made in the famous Matsumoku factory in Japan that also produced Aria's and other 'name' basses in the 1980's.
