Warning.... Kappalite 3015 NOT designed for Bass!
davehux replied to skidder652003's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'm putting my Forum Mod boots on here There is a dispute here between skidder652003 and Blue Aran, which I think should be left to them to sort out privately and off line. I'm not sure it's helpful to either party for all and sundry to wade in with their 2p's on who is right/wrong in this matter, particularly if it appears to draw in other suppliers. Please feel free to continue to discuss your thoughts on whether the Kappalite 3015 is or is not suitable for bass, but leave the two parties to deal with their issues themselves Thank you -
Search eBay for 'bass pickup screws' - millions of the things there. Certainly shouldn't need Hohner bits like that. FYI - I had an active Jack with a dud preamp. Bought a suitable non-Hohner replacement one. Fitted fine, but the shafts on the original blend pot are non standard diameter (normally 6 & 8mm), so I had to hunt around for a pair of knobs that matched the originals, but were the correct diameter. The other Hohner pots are standard diameters.

In my never ending quest to play with soldering irons, I have swapped lots of pickups in various basses. Having looked at the heap that remain, I think it's time to send them to new homes. They're all either bought direct off you guys, or were in basses bought off you guys. All are in fully working order, with plenty of lead on them, and have only been replaced with other pups bought off here They're not the sexiest of things to photograph, but for your delectation and perusal, we have........ In the J corner [s]Bartolini 9J S1 & L1 - £60[/s] - SOLD Wilkinson MWBJN & MWBJB - £15 In the P corner Taken off a Japanese Fender Aerodyne Jazz - £45 Taken off a Squier 20th Anniversary Precision - £25 All with standard delivery to your door. Bung me a couple of quid if you want them faster Feel free to make me an offer on multiples or all of them.

My S12T fits perfectly, sideways, in the boot of my Audi A1 Sportback, if that's any help

I was looking at some old Facebook photos of mine of my first decent gigging rig - a Hartke HA3500 in a flight case, sat on top of an Ashdown 410 and a 115, and the trolley I used to cart the stuff across pub car parks. Then gazed at my S12T with an Orange TB500 glowing gently on the top - clearer, brighter, louder and way, way, lighter, and remembered why I'd forked out all that cash a few months ago

As the former owner of a used Big One, and the current owner of a brand new Super 12T/V, for me it's the pleasure of owning something that was hand built in Britain, by people who are totally dedicated to the sole task of producing the best bass cabs that they can. It's like owning a Morgan or an Aston Martin, instead of a Mercedes or a Lexus. I think the long lead times for a new cab (3½ months for mine) will always keep the second-hand price up. I sold my Big One for what I paid for it and had the pleasure of using the mighty beast for 6 months. Why buy the S12T? You bad lot, who told the world that it was incredible. ...and yes it is

Oh God, they're all at it now! Relics!!

I got as far as the JIMI/SRV/Clapton line, before being overcome by the aroma of bovine manure -
Colour not quite my cup of tea, but you've made a good job of it Thanks for the info on the V3 - there was one on The Bay recently and I was thinking that it didn't look like any Thunder 1 I'd ever seen before. I thought the pup might have been a single Magnabass humbucker like the ones I had on my Thunder III. That bridge was a one off as well, I think. Never seem to see any Thunder II's or III's around for sale. It's always I and IA's

It's back on if anyone fancies a pop at it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WESTONE-SPECTRUM-DX-BASS-GUITAR-MATSUMOKU-JAPANESE-MANUFACTURE-/300974876386?

Barefaced 3rd Generation product range upgrades
davehux replied to thebassman's topic in Amps and Cabs
I like the recessed Tweeter/Speakons panel. It's a bit of a faff to get at the one hidden inside the port of my S12T I haven't spotted the question yet, but are the new drivers available as an upgrade to existing cabs, or is there a change in the bracing/tuning arrangements that makes this unworkable? -
The CTM30 has 1 x ECC83 and 1 x ECC82, whereas the LB30 has/had 2 x ECC83 and 1 x ECC82. The both have the 4 x EL84 power valves. Many LB30 owners (including me) found that it broke up too soon with the ECC83's, and by swapping them for 81's, you got about 25% more volume before the grind kicked in. There are a few threads on here about it. The TB500 will run to stupid o'clock on the volume dial with as much or little gain as you want to give it. Pricewise on here, there's not much difference £350-£400 depending on if the LB is one of the original 50 UK ones, or a Chinese built model

[sup]Ashdown LB30 for the full valve retro look with PA support, or the Orange TB500 for valve pre and retro looks plus the ability to demolish small villages without PA support.[/sup] [sup]Had/got both and love the full fat sound[/sup]

Had a Hohner Jack for a few weeks, but just could not get used to the lack of headstock. It completely threw my hand/eye positioning off by 1 fret. I would have got used to it, I'm sure, if it was my only bass, but to switch between it and a headed bass and a 'mare

Calling Those with Outbuilding Studios/offices

I'm with Jack on this one. Ventilation is your friend. Mould and condensation flourish where there is no air movement Fit a continuous running extractor fan like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Greenwood-Airvac-SF90A-Extractor-Fan/dp/B004Z0SG48 -
Had an HA3500 with a volume control that just had two settings - Pardon Me? and Sweet Jesus!!!! Loved it in a way that you might love your own Stuka dive bomber. Flogged it and got an LMII

Squier vintage modified jazz fretless question.
davehux replied to blamelouis's topic in General Discussion
Had a look under the control plate.
Looks fine to me. Does turning the tone control make a difference to the sound i.e from wooly to merangue? Just to check that it's actually working. I swapped the stock DD's in my fretless to cheap Wilkinsons, and then to a set of Bartolinis. I sold the originals to a mate for his bitsa Jazz. His sounds so much better than mine, I wished I hadn't bothered now -
Squier vintage modified jazz fretless question.
davehux replied to blamelouis's topic in General Discussion
I've had 2 VM's and both have been great. Only got a wooly sound with the tone control wound fully anti-clockwise (as with all passive tone controls) Has someone been playing with the tone capacitor and soldered it so it's on full permanently? -
Use the Whois service to see if a domain name has already been registered. Looking at yours - http://whois.net/whois/funkbass.com it seems it is registered to a holding company in the Cayman Islands. But if you check thefunkbass.com - http://whois.net/whois/thefunkbass.com you can see that is is available If it's a .co.uk address, you can use http://www.nominet.org.uk/ who do the same service for UK domains

Just need Joe to get one. Dean
He wants to have a play on my Ricky. Maybe I'll take the whole lot down to the Driftwood Spars in St Agnes, for their Open Mic on Sunday afternoon

IT'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should get an update from when it leaves BF, surely?!
I/we got one from BF and FedEx on Wed saying the cab would be delivered yesterday. Nothing turned up, and the FedEx site said - Not delivered to depot. I rang the depot and they had no trace of it, so I mailed BF who told me that the shipment hadn't been collected from them. According to FedEx today, my cab is in east Cornwall and should be with me later today. Unless the van crashes. And it gets burnt to a crisp And the ashes are blown back into Devon And Alex vows never to sell me another cab ever again
-
Christ on a bike - is this saga ever going to end!!!!!! Apparently BF had 6 cabs ready for collection by FedEx yesterday, but no-one turned up for them. They have been collected today, so if you're one of the other 5 waiting for them, they should be delivered tomorrow Would have been nice if BF had let us know, rather than me chasing FedEx today, thinking my cab had been lost in transit I must have done something very bad in a previous life!!!!

It's a channel cut through the body to the control cavity, so would show when you take the pickguard off.
