1. We're a 5 piece, with our own PA and lights, who so far only play pubs. We will do a first gig in a place for £150, just to get the booking, but after that it's a very firm £200. We only play places that are within 20 miles max of our base. If we were trekking to either end of Cornwall, we'd ask for more. We don't do it for the money (obviously) but we're not going to get into a pricing war with other bands. If others want to play for buttons, good luck to them. We won't.
2. New plaything arrived. Try me with a close offer, type bump
3. PM sent
4. Hi Gareth It was your video and the valve listing on your LB30 sale posting that got me on the path of swapping out the 83's for 81's - thanks I've got a pair of 81's now, but if you have an 82, I'd be very interested in buying it ATB Dave
5. Just got an UK made LB30 from Mike_M, and a lovely thing it is too. Following advice on here I bought a couple of Mullard ECC81's to replace the 83's in the preamp and stop it grinding up too soon. Opening up the unit, I see that there are 3 x 83's in there, where I was expecting 2 x 83 and 1 x 82. Looking underneath at the circuit board, it has ECC83 printed at all 3 locations. Can someone enlighten me as to which of the 83's I should swap for the 81's and should I get an 82 to replace the other 83? I like a bit of dirt, but it will be a gigging amp for small pubs, so I don't want it to run out of clean too soon. Cheers
6. Bought an Ashdown Little Bastard 30 off Mike, and it was a simple and pleasant transaction with no hassles. The amp was exactly as described, sent out when it was supposed to be, and Mike kept me informed throughout the process. Buy from him with confidence
7. I have a Squier VM fretless Jazz which was driving me up the wall with buzzing. A multimeter showed that I had a good ground from the bridge to the pots and the pots & pups seemed to be fine. Comparing it to a fretted VM Squier, the only difference was no shielding paint in the pup cavities. Solution A 1m strip of 30mm wide self adhesive copper tape from eBay - costs less than £5. Make sure it has conductive adhesive or you'll need to solder connect all the strips. I removed the pups and covered the inside of the pup & control cavities with tape. Solder a ground from the 2 pup cavity shields to a pot on the controls and put a little lip of copper on the edge of the control cavity so that it makes contact with the control plate. Solder all pup, cavity and bridge grounds to one pot, and use the control plate as the ground link between the pots and the jack socket - don't wire the pot tops together (you can form an earth loop if you do that) You still need to solder the ground pin on the pots to their pot top. You only need to solder the 'hot' lead onto the socket. It gets its ground from the plate. Put everything back, and ............................. a hum/buzz free guitar
8. Just ordered mine - great find If we all get together, will there be someone to stack us neatly on the stage?
9. a one off...only (one) built like this and a real talking point... Well he's keeping us amused Looks like someone may be shelling out £30 for a tuneless pizza paddle
10. No harm in dreaming, I suppose. Either that or he's got a very sticky 0 key on his computer

12. Well it ended with 1 bid of £79.99 Let's hope the dopey bugger shilled himself for it.
13.
It's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission 😱
and always get it delivered to your workplace.
14. Chalk it up to experience, and next time set some timescales for completion of the deal. Save negative FB for fraudsters, scammers and other pond life
15. No more to see
16. You've got him worried - the description was amended shortly after Mr Foxen's communication, to read:- (the bridge could be moved further up to the bridge pickup for different intonation) By my reckoning, looking at the photos again, you'd have to screw the bridge on top of the pup to lop 3" off the scale length Fail
17. C'mon - who wouldn't pay £1800 for a Firepleglo Ricky????
18. That beezwax is pricey stuff - there's a national shortage of beez at the moment
19. You may remember this chap's first attempt at a stick bass made from household materials http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item2a20643183&item=180932063619&nma=true&pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&rt=nc&si=MbD1LI52Z3eyhcCKLM05Pwjj%252FGs%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_1203 Now, may I present his latest 'invention' - a freakish combination of Aria neck and breadboard http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-BUILT-ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-or-upright-electric-bass-WOW-/180956474842?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a21d8adda#ht_500wt_1203 Please note the skilled use of 'beezwax' - the sure sign of the professional gluethier/bodger, as MDP tells us so often. A marked improvement on his Mk I bass, and very handy should you find yourself at the top end of sh1t creek, with no other form of propulsion
20.
Is there no end to that mans talents?
I think you mean 'start'
21. Just bought an ACG preamp from Alain. Great guy to deal with. The item was exactly as described and incredibly well packed. Cheers Alain
22.
Can someone please explain why we are so worked up about this guy?
His answer to a simple question about string height. Q: hi what is the buzz free string height at the 12th fret on the low and high E strings on your aria cheers Mack 01-Aug-12 A: Hello, I think the build technology employed on a vintage Aria was never as advanced as a modern Schecter or Ibanez neck, so the consistency of fret levelling is unlikely to be as perfect, but it is still excellent and I have brought the action down till you can stop a string with just the lightest finger tip pressure, and the notes still ring out strong and clear. Beyond a safe optimum you are in the realms of accepting an element of general buzz to give a string action almost on the fret wires that lets you skim effortlessly through phrases... but picking your way through a quieter piece the results might not be as ideal, so you way up the pros and cons. I think this Aria now plays as well as any, and better than most! Thanks, Mark.......... So I'm not going to measure it for you, because I've had to set the action so high to stop it buzzing that you will never buy the thing, I'm just going to name drop and bullshit you. He is good fun though
23. I never noticed at the time. Which mad fool chucked a Ricky away on Wimbledon Common?
24. Someone on the Wanted board is looking for a cheap fretless. I had one of these as well and can confirm what a great bass it is for the money.
25. I wasn't going to £130. I've seen them for around £95-100
