Thanks Geoff I was just wondering if a loose nut has any effect on tone - and whether it needs a 'hard' bond to the neck (like epoxy) rather than a soft glue type one (or do I need to get out more)

Oops - should have put this in Repairs - sorry No - I am not after psychiatric help - far too gone for that Got a secondhand Squier VM fretless jazz last week. Decided to stick a Gotoh bridge on it to replace the bent tin, but when the strings came off, I found the nut was loose and could be removed from the slot. Simple question - what's the best thing to use to stick it back in again? I have the choice of hot-melt, superglue or epoxy in the house, or is there something else you think I should use? Thanks

Don't see one for ages, then 3 come along at the same time Chris Squire Rickys are a bit rich for my blood, but there seems to be a few people on here after them http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=rickenbacker+4001CS&_sacat=0&_dmpt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&_odkw=rickenbacker+4001CS&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Hi There are a few jam nights around Truro that are a really good place to learn a few tricks, get some practice, and most importantly, meet some people who may want to get a band together. The King William IV in Truro has a full-on one on Wednesdays. I go to one at the MMI Bar (Miners & Mechanics) in St Agnes, also on Weds - it's a bit more relaxed (semi acoustic), not so many egos and shredders There's another low-key one at the Britannia in Chacewater on Mondays. Further afield, there's one at the Bowgie Inn, Crantock, on Thursdays run by the same guy who does the King William See you down Aggie tomorrow

They've both now gone to eBay http://www.ebay.co.u...c#ht_500wt_1202 http://www.ebay.co.u...b#ht_500wt_1202

Recommend me a good start up LINED fretless bass??
davehux replied to Jigster's topic in Bass Guitars
What you need is to have a lined and an unlined one and see how you get on. By an amazing coincidence, I have a pair for sale at the moment http://basschat.co.uk/topic/168758-fancy-a-fretless-or-two-westone-thunder-iii-yamaha-bb404f/ Keep the one you like and flog the other - it'll be the best £400 you ever spent -

I own 2 Rickenbackers and have just swapped an acoustic bass for a Squier VM fretless jazz, and I am so impressed with the Squier. The neck is so slender, the Duncan designed pickups are loud and have plenty of tonal control, and I love the 'no scratchplate' look of it. It looks, feels and plays like a guitar that is a lot more expensive than it actually is. Going back to the Rickies feels like I'm holding tree trunks

It may get the Rickenbacker Stormtrooper treatment and disappear without trace , but it's £43 at the mo for them that wants one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOHN-BIRCH-BASS-GUITAR-ORIGINAL-70s-RICKENBACKER-4001-STYLE-/220930165922?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item337076cca2#ht_674wt_1185

Pulled by the seller - I hope no-one's offered her a Buy-It-Now price and bought themselves a pup

I'm thinking that the skunk stripe is too wide, there's no white binding on the body edge, and the top strap button is in the wrong place. Plus of course the non-existent Ricky TRC

I says yes http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rickenbacker-4001-Bass-Guitar-/290645838953?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43abd78c69#ht_500wt_1202

Well there's no harm in trying, I suppose

If I pay $1.59, do you think he'd rub it on a smoking dog? -

For $500, I'd wanted it delivered by Kylie Minogue, naked, on a unicorn -

Not even metal - they're crappy chrome painted plastic that weigh about an ounce -

Hi Basschatters Up for sale is my 1985 Westone Thunder III Mk 2 Fretless - with the Magnabass humbuckers. Pretty good condition for its age, just a couple of minor dings around the place. At some point in its life it either had a different bridge on it, or the original one moved and then put back to factory position, as there are 2 screw holes visible, about ½" to the rear of the bridge (which is a Westone) 18v active pups with an amazing range of sounds from the active tone pot. Toggle switches for active/passive, single coil/humbucker and 3 way pup selector. Independant tone controls for active and passive circuits, plus master volume pot with pull-up phase switch. So many tonal possibilites with the thing. Currently fitted with a 2 month old set of Rotosound Jazz Bass flatwounds. Schaller strap buttons fitted since the photos, but originals included in the sale. Weighs a ton, but she really sings up at the dusty end. No strap included. £325 collected from Truro, Cornwall Sorry - no trades - need to try and fill the bank balance hole caused by purchase last week of new plank. I've still got the battered hard case that she got delivered in, so could post it in that if needed, but it would be some serious weight to pay for. I'd have to wind a load of gaffer tape around the box, but it should survive the journey. Here's some photos of it from last year. Can send more detailed ones to anyone serious. Hi Jeff Learn the notes of the E and A strings and their octaves, then the basic 12 bar blues sequence which you can play in any key, then get yourself to a jam night. Give yer nuts a good squeeze and get up there and give it a go. One song on a stage with other musicians is worth 10 hours of bedroom practice.
So. Freaking. Tempting. Problem is that I'm located in Holland and that i've never bought a bass from a foreign country before, so i'm a bit anxious about it all..
It'll be fine - just chop the UK plug off the lead and put a Dutch one on there Chris (Beedster) is a top bloke - it's them ferries you have to watch out for!!!
