1. Just for clarity, tube/valve amps come in 2 main flavours. The majority of 'valve' amps only have valves in the pre-amp stage, to give that warm tone. They have a solid state power stage to boost the signal out to the speakers. Pre-amp valves don't run particularly hot, will last for years, and are usually a simple 'non-techie' swap out if you want to replace them. Full valve amps have the pre-amp valves, plus big, hot, glowing power amp bottles at the back, and usually some hefty great transformers in there are well. The power valves need replacing far more often that the pre-amps, and depending on the amp, may need a technician to set the bias on them. Some amps have user- controlled biasing which makes it simpler. Hope that helps
2. I thank the Mighty Lord Claber for the handles and wheels on my S12T every time I have to wheel it through the house, or down long corridors, or across anything apart from a swamp or the Himalayas. Perhaps some shine pads may be on your Xmas list this year
3. Hi Madame La GAS has wafted her perfume again and got me looking at all valve amps. Had an LB30, loved it, but just not enough power for a 5 piece band. Currently got a Markbass TTE500, love it even though it's got a solid state power stage, but there's always the next amp lurking around the corner. However.......it needs to sit nicely on top of my Barefaced S12T and not look like a mushroom, or a giant letter T, so max width of 47cm and depth of 30cm I found the Mesa Boogie Prodigy, but at almost 2 grand new, and possibly 110V only, it's slightly into Fantasy Island territory. Suggestions/recommendations if you will, please. Cheers
4. Because it's a heap of sh1t?
5. He still wins the award for 'Most Obnoxious and Up Themselves Seller' on eBay What a surprise that most of his stuff gets relisted I think we all know what he is, don't we, boys & girls?
6. Me and 2 mates (guitard and sax) went to an audition with a singer and a drummer who were looking for a band. Drummer starts up, we all hit the groove, going lovely - then the singer kicks in. I'm struggling to find the words for the weak-as-a-kitten, flat-as-a-pancake, noise that came out of him. Mouse fart is about the closest. Next day I tried to get the drummer to dump his mate and join us, but he was being super loyal. I imagine he still has a singer and no band to this day.
7. Had an LM II and an F1 Now on the TTE500 No plans to change - just the biz (for me anyway)
8. Oh the humanity - will no-one help this poor man
9. Well I'm not buying it - there's a tuner missing!!!!!!
10. Nobody needs 3 Rob Allens. Please post the MB2 4 stringer to me immediately and I will forgive you
11. I've had a TB500, a MB LM2 and a MB F1 For pure, clear, punch, my vote goes to the F1 For a bit of character with diallable grit, then the TB500 is the chap
12. Jeez - 1st World Problems or what???? You got a free album and to the best of my knowledge no-one has died because of it. What are you going to do when something REALLY horrible happens to you Like a Cliff Richard album appearing on your phone
13. Lots of us use www.interparcel.com Their 'own brand' service uses UPS as the courier. I've sent a number of basses to Spain, France and recently Austria, with no problems whatsoever - that one cost me £31 insured for £250
14. Bluebass is still around http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=331285054567 Got a MM P neck off him a couple of months ago. The tint is really nice and just the right amount of colour to look 'aged'. Fender logo looks great and well lacquered. It's inbetween a Jazz and P neck for width at the nut, which is what I wanted Would recommend 100%
15. Selling my Ashbury AGB-30 electro-acoustic bass. 4 band EQ plus volume and battery check New set of Fender flatwounds on it to replace the horrible bronze things it came with. Slimline body (4" thick) so you don't feel like you're playing a wardrobe Very good (pretty much excellent) condition Yours for £130 - sorry, no offers, they are £230 brand new, and this isn't far off that condition No bag, and I don't have a box suitable to send it, so cash on collection from either Truro or St Austell, Cornwall, or I could deliver within 30 mile radius of either for £10 extra
16. Fender 9050M flats are quite bright (for flats) I have them on my P and Rotosound RS66's on my Jazz - thump and zing Horses for courses
17. Bought a Geddy Lee Jazz off Nick. Delivered as promised in minty mint condition. A lovely, lovely, bass
18. Have you sussed out the types of places who will be booking your band. If it's your average Dog & Duck, you really don't need to go armed with weapons of mass destruction. The landlord wont like it, and the punters will be pinned to the back wall trying to escape. What sounds amazing in a rehearsal room is, IMHO, way, way too loud for a pub gig. Go for quality rather than quantity - same goes for the guitards - don't let them loose on a 4x12 Grab that Barefaced S12v while it's still available. It will happily punch the kidneys out of a drummer, while still sounding meaty at normal volumes.
19.
I'm in a similar situation- getting married in May, and definitely do not want to play my own wedding! Trouble is, I don't want anything toooo slick, as in complete function band material, but I want a band that will get people interested and dancing. In response to the OP, I can recommend Company B from Cornwall- Rock n Roll with a WW2 twist! Great band.
Hi Will Complete and total Cornwall based 13 amper for your wedding https://www.facebook.com/Connect5Cornwall?fref=photo&ref=hl http://www.lemonrock.com/connectfivetruro We do the not very slick, dancing thing Cheers Dave
20. Has anyone ever mentioned how light these things are I have one of the last S12T's made (probably at the same time as this one) and it/they are total guitard killers GLWTS
21.
Now if i had the cash ?
*coughs quietly and looks out for the courier*
22. Markbass F1 - only sold mine because I am a tackle tart and wanted to try an Orange TB500
23. I had a Spyder 330 for a short time, after selling my LB30 (for the same reason as you). Very underwhelming amp with IMHO not much valve warmth to it. Had an Orange TB500 - fantastic rock/metal amp. Bit of a one-trick pony, but great if you like that trick. Now have a Markbass TTE500 - smooth, valvey, manageable grit when you want it, and whack the gain right up. Tons of volume. Overall the best amp I've owned
24. I see that the new(?) 2013 VM Jazzes now have Fender Designed pickups instead of the older Duncan Designed ones. Anyone A/B'd them to notice a difference. The DD ones were pretty impessive
