1. Traded my Sadowsky for Graham's Nordy. Deal went swimmingly. Graham is a top chap and the bass is fantastic. Would definitely deal with again. Enjoy the Sad! Cheers, Ray
2. I'm a little worried about being amp-less whilst I source a replacement hence the lack of a cash price. Sorry if this makes me come across as a little awkward. I don't have the luxury of a backup head so being without an amp for anything more than a couple of days would leave me in a hole. I do have a trade pending. If it doesn't come off, I'll consider selling and update the thread.
3.
At the risk of sounding like a complete nunce, am I correct in thinking that 'vintage' tone is basically just 'thicker' with slightly compressed mids and not as much high end?
That sounds pretty much spot on. I would say this amp is more suited to rock/old skool funk/Motown etc. where you need warm low end grunt rather than top end detail. It can also get reasonably grindy/dirty with the Tubetone cranked.
4. Back available for trade. Anyone have an LMII/III or a Shuttle 6.0 they fancy swapping?
5. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Spunky bass yet.
6. WITHDRAWN I've decided to keep this now. Thanks for the interest.
7.
I love those threads Especially those posters that will wait for the answers to be posted to chime in with "I knew that". In one thread over there Roger Sadowsky admits that there is no way to tell the difference between maple and rosewood by sound either live or recorded. I respect him for that.
He must have changed his tune recently then. Here is what he had to say about necks back in 2006: "Just found this thread. Just had time to skim it. Here is the result of my 34 years experience building guitars and basses: I am convinced that the fingerboard has a bigger tonal influence on the instrument than the body wood. In other words, the difference between a maple and rosewood fingerboard is greater than the difference between an alder and an ash body. Of the woods I use, maple is the brightest and tightest. That is why it is the preferred wood among slap players. Rosewood is the sweetest and warmest. South American and Madagascar rosewoods are tighter than East Indian rosewoods. Ebony is in the middle regarding brightness, but it has the most "punch" (the most solid center to the note). This is true regardless of the fret size, type of finish, or anything else. This is not "IMHO". This is "just the facts m'am". Roger" Here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php...p;postcount=105

Recently bought a loop switch from Nick. Deal went really well and item is spot on. Cheers Nick!
12. Chris recently bought my MTD Z5. A pleasure to deal with and would deal with again anytime. Cheers Chris - enjoy the bass. Ray
13. For a "light the blue touchpaper" moment, try posting that your Ray has lower output from the G string.
14. T serial or not it's not a tribute. The tribute is a CS model and has side position dots between the fretlines. The artist model has side position dots on the fretlines. Also, what happened with the truss rod access rout? It looks like a drunk blind man did it with a Swiss Army knife.
15. Ignore me. I'm an idiot. It's been a long day.
16. Pics now added.
17. If I can sell my ^ I'll have this off you. Any pics? Here's some of mine: Front Back Close up
18. PMs replied. Will get some more pics up tonight.
19. I've not used this much at all since getting my Sadowsky and it's too good to be sat in my spare bedroom. I'm also skint so it's time to move it on. The good: 35" Scale, 24 frets, Mahogany Body with Burl Maple top. 19mm string spacing at bridge. 1 3/4" nut. Maple neck and fingerboard with Buzz Feiten Tuning System. (More info on Z5 here) Nordstrand Big Split Pickups (Specs here) and Aguliar OBP3 pre-amp running at 18V (Specs here) Original pups included. The not so good: A couple of minor scratches to the finish - nothing below the finish though and pretty much unnoticeable unless you're looking for them. When I had the electronics upgraded, the wires for the pre were left long in case I wanted to swap it out again. It works perfectly but visually it is not a pretty wiring job. If neat wiring is your thing I would expect a tech to charge £30/£40 to tidy it up or you could do it yourself if you're handy with a soldering iron. [s]Could do with new strings if super zingy hi-fi tone is your thing.[/s] Now fitted with a brand new set of Dean Markley Rocco Prestia Sig Strings 45-125. SOLD Cheers, Ray
