  1. Guitarslinger is the German company I think, they look okay but a bit dark and the haven't got a tort p in stock at the moment
  2. cheers rubis, that mint spitfire looks the absolute business, love the warping, so authentic. I've seen those ebay ones they look really good but not as good as the spitfire and if I can dodge the duty through getting my mate to bring it over the spitfire mint is a bit cheaper I hadn't realised CS werea different fit though, that may throw a spanner in the works, anyone know how they're different?
  3. Ta good to know
  4. Cheers bassbod, the WD is pretty good but still not quite there for me, PM incoming
  5. Does anyone know if custom colour basses actually came with tort , I thought they were always white and pics in books suggest this but you see CS ones with tort, I wonder if this has become a thing cos it looks cool and sunburst basses got refinished , is pino's bass all orig?
  6. That thread's a bit worrying, the only vintage fender one I've seen so far was over a grand! I've got my eye's peeled for a 2nd hand spitfire on reverb and talkbass
  7. Cheers Steve
  8. I'm a massive fender geek and I love the old 60s tort guards to the point where anything else looks instantly all wrong to me I've got a surf green CS P with a gold anodised guard which is cool but for me it's a 60s looking bass with a 50s guard so a fancy a tort one Spitfire guards look amazing but are insanely expensive ( although I wouldn't say overpriced considering he's making a bespoke sheet of celluloid to your spec) I've got a mate in America who comes over a lot so I could dodge duty etc but £230 odd quid for pickguard , am I going mad? Anyone got one? What do you reckon?
  9. Annoying isn't it, don't buy from him
  10. Yeah think he was briefly in whitesnake in the mid 80s
  11. Huge fan of Colin and backdoor, he does get talked about on here from time to time
  12. I played an old one and it was great and really light, were the previous ones basswood?
  13. How about a pair of barefaced 210s and a Mesa d800 I've got a svt cl that I love but I rarely take out cos it's so bloody heavy , no class D will sound the same but I find the Mesa D has a wide open clarity that has a similarity to a valve head Or a Walkabout if you want a grittier old school midrange?
  14. I see Bassdirect has got them in stock, anyone on here got one yet?
  15. Wow, I was expecting a fusion bass shred up, loved that , I'm hearing the 90s Soundgarden AIC thing too
  16. One of my biggest influences when I started , just watched a fender vid of him playing Maggot Brain that popped up on YouTube, Absolute rubbish!
  17. Mark Sandman on 2 string slide bass
  18. I like it, bit different isn't it Are the strings cobalt flats?
  19. Pick one song ( how about Pressure Drop, Toots and the Maytals) and play it over and over , harmonically it's simple , just major triads but the magic is in the articulation , really try to mimic the note length and rythmic placement feeling how the bass relates to the drums and guitar Tone down volume up
  20. Luthier definitely is a real thing and pre dates the term guitar tech by 100s of years!( I know what you mean, bit pretentious isn't it)
  21. I totally agree , I just thought I'd mention incase the OP didn't know you could get small loud amps these days, I love big Peavey combos
  22. Just keep buying P basses , I've got 6 and I still lust after the next
  23. I've got a avri and a CS and the CS definitely has a bit more low end and is a touch smoother ( although I think the avri pup is actually closer to a real 60s fender in some ways) Overwound sounds like what you're after imo
  24. What's the weight? Where are you? Pickguard looks original to me, what makes you think it isn't?
