1. I'm getting one made for my band with cigar box , check us out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojlSARbO230 gonna be tuned GDG , an octave down from the regular box with a 28" string length
2. One of the all time greats, I go along with the theory that she thinks she's on those tracks and it was down to tracks being cut multiple times on different sessions and hope it's nothing more sinister. I personally think it's Jameson on bernadette but she kills it with the pick on the OP YouTube vid It's such a shame that all this disputed credits stuff seems to dominate our discussion on Carol as she's so talented ,prolific and influential. Her chord tone as opposed to scalar jazz improv approach is so on the money too If you haven't heard the Mel Torme version of Games people play then you gotta check it out
3. I do tons of weddings and my standard line is bacs in advance or cash on arrival and with the cash I find the most important thing is to discuss in advance who will pay and when they'll pay it in and don't accept " at the end of the night"
4. s.bass b50 made in italy 50 watt bass head, made 1972 in Italy, running 4x EL84. point to point wiring I pretty sure its a gem saturn, I played a flip top version of one of these in a shop years ago and loved it but the guy would'nt sell so i always had an eye out for one of these there's an old basschat thread about this model or possibly this very amp and thats where I got the info from, google gem saturn b50 and you'll find it I've just plugged it in for the first time in years, a few of the pots on channel 2 were a bit crackly so I've sprayed them and it seems fine Great old school tone, I'd liken it to a selmer tnb or sound city in tone, great for p bass or semi with flats , the 2 channels are eqd differentley channel 1 has got loads more bottom end . Its got a clank to it and it breaks up, not an amp for clean headroom but if you want a vintage tone it's great I was suprised how loud it is, it's definetly giggable in the right circumstances and used on a few fairly loud gigs when a distorted sound was the right vibe Selling cos I'm using my orange when I need a valve tone and I've got 2 other valve heads and the missus is moaning about them, shes got a point tbf I'm in crystal palace south london i won't post but could potentially meet up trade for eq/di pedal, teisco, kay, hofner bass, class d amp , cash adjusment either way
5. I've bought a fair bit off bd over the years and had good experience Mark can be slightly abrasive and very opiniated but I don't mind that. I phoned up recently though and spoke to someone else to get a price on a berg nv cab and he just went on about a vanderkley 410 which I explained was undoubtedly a good cab but definitely not for me as I tried/owned most cabs and I like ceramic speaker with big magnets and the guy still went on about neo this lightweight that , bit frustrating really
6. Price drop bump , now £300
7. I wouldn't say a mic is the answer to string noise, the realist pickup has very little top end so it may suit your bass if you're after a darker amplified sound, what strings are you using?
8. How much do you pay him on average? That's the deciding factor for me .As people have said already there's plenty of good engineer/PA hire people around
9. Dimensions Width 61cm Height 61cm Depth 47.5 cm It doesn't have a tweeter, I'll weigh it this evening, think the scales must be in the attic, it's very heavy!
10. Definitely 8 ohm and 1400w ,I'll measure it later, don't know too much about it tbh as I think matamp make the cabs to order so there's no model info as such on the website,
11. I've got a dpa 4099b and it sounds great in the right conditions but can often be problematic and if you're using a mic you have to accept you won't have as much level or definition as with a pickup. I've had periods with no pickup on my bass and it does cause issues , some engineers get really pissed off and unfortunately people are now used to hearing the pickup through an amp sound on stage. I've found a happy medium is having a pickup on the bass and taking a sm57 and an h clamp and a dpa and rather than a bass amp I use a powered speaker which I personally think sounds better than a bass amp with my pickup, so if set up is rushed or the stage is loud I'll just put the pickup through the speaker,if I have more time I'll put the speaker on a stand and try the mics and tbh some of the best sounds I've had have been when I've had a dynamic mic on an h clamp going foh with no amp or monitoring ,
12. I would say you wouldn't be limited to a certain set up with a rb bass or classical bass, they're essentially the same , the rb basses mentioned are all plywood so they probably wouldn't sound great with a bow but they would be more suitable for standing on !
13. I do find my amps loud enough I just thought if I'm gonna downsize my cab would the ohmage be critical but now I know otherwise
14. Thanks dad , I get sensitivity now , nice one. I'll check the figures , tbh I've owned or gigged most things , loved my berg hds never should of sold them and thinking about it they didn't seem to get more out the amp together at 4ohm than my matamp at 8ohm ( different cabs though I )
