1. just listened to the feraud and gwizdala clips and i think that's a bit harsh on the latter to lump them in together, for me feraud is just finger wiggling nonsense but I thought gwizdala has a sense of harmonic development and space and has tons of modern jazz vocab. Isn't all bass shred music a bit bollox though? great shout for thunes and fowler
2. I use the dpa with a qsc k10 powered speaker on a stand, having it up on a stand is the key to getting enough level before it feeds back, I sometimes put the mic thru an amp and it sounds good but does feedback if you try and crank it
3. I use a DPA 4099b on probably 80% of my gigs , I still have a pick up which I use for loud gigs or if I have to stand really close to the drums and sometimes engineers insist on taking a Di often because they think it should sound like a bass guitar,
4. where abouts are you stevie?
5. I don't really have any criteria for what I think is "good" . Some of my goodest players have got it all ,time tone technique harmony, players like Ray Brown, Jamerson you know the type . I also think Dee Dee Ramone and his shall we say rugged technique is good, sometimes that school band punk rock n roll thing does it for me. but I also like modern nashville players whose note placement and length is exquisite even though their lines through the changes are generic and cliched. Some of the modern gospel players are right show offs but I think they're good too. is there a bit of a chops vs subtlety thing going on here. It's all good
6. just paint it, matched headstocks look great.
7. gotta be a valve amp , I use a ampeg SVT with berg cabs and it sounds amazing, shits all over my shuttle 9.2 ( don't get me wrong I love my genz )
8. for sale Thomastik belcantos £50 SOLD I've just bought a bryant bass and it came with these strings and as soon as I bought it I had it set up and changed the strings I was the first person to trial the bass so as far as I can tell these have barely been played and are like new £50 posted might trade for G and or D gut , cash either way
9. Did a gig tonight with no amp , it was a theatre and I plugged in my dpa 4099b had a wedge stood on its end behind and it sounded great so better than a pick up and amp
10. the CH chordas are about £320 from david gage , ouch
11. I'm not bloody suprised 3k is a bargain
12. Whereabouts are you
13. Yeah that's Carlos and i've been thinkin about getting a set of his custom Chorda's, how would you say your guts compare to steel volume wise Mtroun great shout for Larry Gales I'd kinda forgot about him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUjYWLPGBdc one of the best live bass sounds i've heard and as always not a pickup to be seen
14. Which ones do you use Greg
15. I've liked the idea of gut strings for a while but I've got a smallish german 3/4 which suits spiro's, however I've just got a "lott" bryant which I think might sound good with guts and listening to this ( check out the solo on miss jones at 44mins ) I'm pretty sold on the idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RajXNIiBCaE anyone out there use guts
16. I've currently got a lott bryant on approval at the moment and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy it. I think mtroun hit the nail on the head with the built by one person bit, I've tried most things in the 5k to 10k range and the only basses I've prefered to the bryant are 10k plus. Mtroun I use a DPA through a QSC powered monitor on a stand and I love it. For me the trade off of losing a bit of volume and sometimes definition is so much better than a pick up sound. Although I do still have a realist on my bass and do sometimes need it on loud stages. I've seen a few people using the K&K mic which is much cheaper than the DPA. Mtroun which bryant do you have
17. Check out the amersham in new cross on Tuesdays, the vortex in dalston, the place mentioned in Shoreditch is probably Charlie Wright's which is still going
18. spencer.b

SOLD

Where abouts are you
19. Absolutely gutted I missed this , I'm on tour in Europe so I can't even watch it on iPlayer. My all time favourite band, it's so unusual to hear English bands singing in their own accents and directly referencing their own culture. I've been singing Dave Peacocks praises for years what a player.
20. I just changed my Streamliner 9 for a shuttle 9.2 as I found it a bit wooly although with my berg cabs although the streamliner sounds good with vanderkleys
21. With my bass I use a realist and with my berg cabs I struggled to get enough top end, sounds amazing with my P basses though
22. Genz Benz streamliner 900 £550 TRADE PENDING I bought this from Mark at Bass Direct on 22nd of march this year so it's still under warranty for 2 years 5 months its with its original box and manual, and its with a genz benz man bag type carry case that was £45 here's the spec http://www.genzbenz....&sid=675&cid=95 although I'm sure you know all about these already great sounding amp ,old school warmth and grit in a tiny lightweight modern reliable amp, I really like the way you can drive the tube at any volume. I'm selling it because these days the vast majority of my work is on upright and when I do play electric its tend to be doubling so I'm gonna get a head that I can put the upright thru as well. I'd trade it for a shuttle 9.2 with a £100 to you or maybe a shuttle 9 with a bit of cash to me I'm in Stoke Newington North London and I can deliver inside the M25 for free or I'm happy to meet somewhere if its mutually convenient or I could post. 23. I know a few people that use these strings and they sound great on the right bass , they do seem to suit bigger basses on the whole
