Aguilar DB112, farting on B string, loose dust cap
Welshbassist replied to Welshbassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks Dan. That's what I was hoping but as not particularly well versed in this thing thought it better to check first. I'll give that a go! -
Hi all, I was playing along at home on a DB112 and noticed that at louder volumes the speaker was clipping really badly and obviously when I was playing on the B string or really digging in on on E. Head is rated appropriately so not an issue there. Having removed the grille I noticed the dust cap seems to have come undone at least half way of the way around. Could this be the culprit? Doesn't seem to be any obvious damage to the come or elsewhere. Would be keen to know if re gluing this (or something else!) could resolve it before I take the plunge on a replacement driver. Any help much appreciated

Maurszczyk Paddock 5a truss rod snapped!
Welshbassist replied to radcliff43123's topic in Repairs and Technical
Frankly it is so disappointing to hear about Mariuszczyk's response. It's quite insulting to suggest that this is your fault as if you have taken to the rod with an impact wrench. I have been considering a new P-style bass and this puts me right off - the peace of mind provided by good customer service is one of the first things I would think about when spending that much money on an instrument. I hope you are able to come to some sort of agreement. -

Hi Jimothy Always good to bump into a fellow Welshman! I'm from Nefyn on the Llyn peninsula with my family at the mo - though I usually live down in south east London. It's great to be back to be honest, looking forward to being able to catch up with old friends in person soon (I hope!).

Thanks for the warm welcome, it's good to be back

Now sold! ***PRICE DROP NOW £430*** Hi BCers After much deliberation I have decided to sell this excellent cab, a Series 1 Epifani UL410 with B&C drivers. I bought this on here quite a while back when I was younger and hoping to get into music full time, decided to invest in a quality one-cab solution that would see me through most situations. As it turned out I ended up going down a different route career wise and neglected bass playing – so this amp has spent most of its life sat under the cover at home. Happily, I’ve rediscovered the bass while stranded with my family over lockdown but realised I’ll need a more compact setup once I am able to travel back to my equally compact one-bed. Sound and performance wise this reproduces a full-range sound and is very versatile – I was always able to dial in the right sound for quite a variety of genres. Never been left wanting in terms of volume when I was active back in the day. Since then however this has had quite an easy life. It’s in excellent condition having spent the last ten years either in a cover (stored indoors) or played at low volumes. Light and for a 410 at 24/25kg-ish and the handles are well placed. FYI The images from my phone camera seem to make the carpeting look more grey than it actually is – the carpet is in fact black. I believe the specs are as follows: Speaker: 4 x 250w RMS cast aluminium-frame B&C neodymium drivers, variable tweeter. Freq. Response: 40hz - 16khz Sensitivity: 103 db SPL @ 1w 1m Power Rating: 1000w RMS (2400w Peak) 26.25" H x 23" W x 17.75 57 lbs. Collection from Llyn Peninsula in NW Wales or courier arranged by buyer. May consider trades for a P Bass? Includes Epifani padded cover. Cheers.

That was great! Have to say some of those synth samples - the strings and brass - sounded ropey

Hi all I'm back after over ten years away from playing and the forum, having caught the bug for the bass again after being stranded at my family home in north Wales over lockdown. Forgot how much I enjoying playing music and I've decided I'm going to try and get back into it and hopefully pick it up with other musicians when things return to normal and I've got my chops back 🤞. Really amazed at the wealth of online resources that have popped up since I was last playing - been enjoying some of the stuff from talkingbass particularly. Currently playing through an Ibanez SR505 through either an Aguilar TH or a Ashdown ABM head and an Epifani UL410 cab though I am looking to move to more portable gear. So yeah - that's my story and it's great to be back!

Hi all Having regretfully taken a hiatus from the bass guitar for over ten years (!), being stranded at my family home over the current lockdown has led to me getting back into playing and enjoying it again! While I'm slowly working to shake off the rust I think I'd probably benefit from some guidance in working through some bad habits that are probably a combination of rust and of being mostly self taught. Obviously in the current climate it would be over video call - though once restrictions lift I'll be heading from NW Wales to SE London where I'm usually based (and bringing my gear with me this time!). Just to be up front I'm entirely sure how many sessions I want but for now I was imagining booking around 2 or 3 initially to work through a couple of specific issues and taking it from there. Cheers

Apparently moving the strap holder to another place cures the neck dive. Or something!

I HATE my Muff, hate hate hate hate.

It sounds like you're buying out of pure GAS, and not out of necessity! It's up to you really, but none of us can really make the decision for you, you really need to try one out yourself mate!
-
Thing is, if i had a TBird, I'd pair it with a full on SVT stack! So I could go for the full on King of Leon tone! I'd only recommend one if you're looking for a massive rumbling sound really. It's not very subtle!
-
I've heard you can move one of the stap locks (or whataver you call them), and that sorts out the balancing problem! A bit unorthodox, but it works. And also note they're a pretty niche bass - if you're lookign for a versatile bass, this isn't it!
-
So if it's okay, what was the point of the whole incredibly long BS explanation then? That just made things too complicated and hard to understand. I love my Epi UL, but they just went a little crazy there.
-
So, unless I'm mistaken, it's a bad move to use Epi's with valve heads?
-
What about that whole Epifani thing a couple months back? I'm not 100% if this is right, but people said they weren't really designed to be used with valve amps, or something like that!
