String spacing on the Ibanez SR series is 16.5 mm about as tight as it gets. The Yamaha is streets ahead of everything on your list quality wise. It you just want a great quality backup with a similar string spacing to your Carvin there is a Bass Collection SB315 in the classified for a bargain price.
A metal kettle. But the most metally is John Kettley. Kettley: Not Bob Carolgees
And so is Michael Fish!! Is it time to post the Russ Andrews link again? Always good for a laugh - http://www.russandrews.com/default.asp

The SGC Nanyo Bass Collection 4 strings are 7.5lbs and balance very well.

Nothing to do with SGC Nanyo I'm afraid -these are a much more recent thing, probably made in Indonesia. I think these are one of the better copies, so I'm not surprised it fetched a decent amount.

Bass Guitar Magazine - Column about Basschat
pete.young replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about using members 'copy' for a commercial magazine...
The Ts&Cs make it pretty clear that we have no say in this. -
For sale - an AMG-3 Tricone Resonator guitar, with a guitar neck (not a square Dobro-type). It's set up with a fairly low action and can be played finger-style with a bottleneck. A very substantial Kinsman hard case is included. This instrument has been drastically improved by Basschat's resident genius guitar builder kevin_lindsay, who buffed the finish to a semi-gloss sheen and added some Delta resonator cones which have transformed the sound. He also added the National decal to the headstock. Kevin's build thread is here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1767710 Taking pictures of this instrument now that it's shiny are quite a challenge The instrument is in excellent condition, with only one tiny mark in the finish on the head which I've tried to show in one of the photographs. There are some better shots in Kevin's original for sale thread, which I hope he wont mind me linking to. http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1883235 . Price is £350 plus shipping. The guitar can also be collected from Ipswich, or we can meet up in central London. I'm not really looking for trades but would consider part-ex against a quality old-time banjo. Some pictures: Kevin originally sold the guitar to raise funds for a donation in memory of Caden Beggan. It's become something of a tradition for donations to be made when this instrument changes hands, something which I will be glad to maintain and I hope that if someone buys it they will consider doing so too.

Now SOLD More information and specifications here; http://www.tech-soun...g/12er/412.html This cab gives a massive sound with loads of punch. I love this cab but it is much more than I need for my current band, who are complaining that it's too loud. It's either find a new cab or a new band, so I'm trying this route first! Given the size of this cab, shipping is likely to be a problem. Collection from Ipswich is fine and I may be able to deliver it within about an hour's radius for fuel costs, or you can arrange your own courier. Not really looking for trades. Here are some pictures, more can be provided on request:
Got mine at GAK on Friday - they arrived with them on Thursday. I only find that it's a bit of a stretch very low down on the B/E strings. The rest of the spacings are pretty normal, so much so I've been playing for a few hours now & don't even have to think about it. I can thoroughly recommend it!
Trip to Brighton on the cards then! Can you measure the string spacing at the bridge for us and pop it on the bathroom scales?

Try http://www.lidwishsoulutions.com/ I'm sure the irony won't be lost on everyone :-)

Who is gigging over the Easter weekend?
pete.young replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
Yes, we have a beer festival gig at the amazing Locks Inn, Geldeston. Which is nowhere near London, Warwick or anywhere else! -
Roland VB-99 has some wonderful double bass patches.
Here we go - got mine yesterday, have played it a fair bit at home, gigging it tonight.
Excellent, where did you get yours from ? I tried a Dingwall and it wasn't comfortable. The spacing is just a bit too big for me,

Manraj bought a DB pickup from me, great transaction, recommended.
-
So how does this compare with your 65 precision?
-
There arent really any shortcuts to this. If you don't want to pay for an Akai Deep Impact, the Korg G5 is a reasonable option. There is also a good G5 emulator in the Zoom MS-60B and B1Xon but to get the best out of it you need to spend some time blending envelope filters, distortion etc with the basic synth effects.

If you can make it as far as Ipswich, I recommend Dave Parker , http://www.guitarlodge.co.uk/ . He's done servicing work for me on Burman and made a good job of it. When I was there, he was rebuilding an original Ampeg flip-top. Turn around was pretty good - a couple of weeks.
