[/quote] I was glad I'd done that with my B9-1ut, the unit was fine but the power supply stopped working after a fairly short time and was replaced under guarantee, no problem thanks to GAK .

There is a decent set of tab for this on fretplay.com including the middle 8 which is the only part that requires any effort.

How about Shipbuilders by Peter Yorke? It was a test piece many years ago but is none the worse for that and I always enjoyed playing it. There are some nice arrangements of Holst too.

No, the B3 doesnt have an aux in. It depends how you practice, but I find my tascam to be the ideal tool for learning stuff.

Yes, I worded that badly, apologies. I should have said have you considered learning a melody instrument, it would add something extra. And it is always fun to learn new stuff.

With this line up, the best thing you can do to help the overall sound of the band is to forget about bass and learn another melody instrument such as tenor banjo, accordion or mandola. Bodhran and guitar is more than enough accompaniment.

A cheap way to try out the U Bass option is the Harley Benton Kahuna spotted by Dannybuoy , see his separate thread. I guess it depends what kind of Irish Folk music you're playing. Bands like Horslips and The Pogues have used the bass guitar very successfully. Sharon Shannon and the Woodchoppers and Clannad, have done fantastic things with double bass, De Danann with cello, Bothy Band with clavinet. I think these are the exception rather than the rule though. Apart from Sharon Shannon, I can't think of many jigs and reels type bands who have benefitted from the introduction of a bass, and there's at least one clip of De Danann on the net showing how spectacularly terrible it can turn out.

I have a 4x12 (Tech Soundsystems). They're not that common and are very rarely seen in combination with a 1x15, unless the 1x15 is being used as a stand. I think Chrissie has a point. I agree with the basic argument that modern 2x12s are good enough for most situations. I only moved on my Ebs 2x12 Neo to make space for the 4x12.

Nice and versatile basses if you like the narrow spacing, I had one for a while, enjoyed playing it. The BIN is a pretty good price.

An ordinary Stingray control plate might sort this out. It would look slightly weird and leave a nasty mess underneath but it would be cheap and wouldnt need luthier input.

I played my Burman Pro 4000 through Merton's Vintage at a bash a couple of years age and it sounded very nice indeed.

It's all very well buying new basses, but sometimes a setup or a minor change to an instrument that wasn't getting played for whatever reason, can make something seem like a new instrument again, and open up a whole range of possibilities. Case in point 1 - I've had a Bass Collection SB310 for a few years, strung as B-E-A-D. I needed something inexpensive, that might have to live in the back of the car for a day, and I decided to reclaim it. I replaced the nut and strung it with an old new set of Rotosound 40-100s that have been kicking about for a while, lowered the action, and it's like having a new bass again! Case in point 2 - I took the TI Flats off my Precision and put some D'Addario Roundwounds on - hey presto gone are the dead, lifeless and uninspiring thuds and it sounds like a bass guitar again! What with that, and the realisation that there's no point in trying to find the ultimate 5-string because I already own it, and I'm mostly GAS-free for the first time in ages!

I'd say make sure you try one before you do anything rash. I had convinced myself that a Combustion was for me, until I tried one in the Gallery. I've got quite small hands, made worse by damage from a bike accident, and the gaps below the 5th fret on the E and B were just too uncomfortable.
