1. Gah! Who put those ghastly chicken-head knobs on it!!
2. Bass Collection, made in Japan by SGC Nanyo, are very well made instruments and pop up in the for sale forums here from time to time. They are very light weight - my SB320 fretless is around 7lb, and are available in a variety of finishes and colours. There's a sunburst one on the bay at the moment, but the price is a bit high. Edit: TheGreek, great minds think alike, eh?
3.
Howard knew the official name for that colour as it came up in our discussion but it escapes me atm.
It looks to me like Sherwood green, but I have terrible eyesight!
4. If this is rented accommodation, shouldn't you be having this conversation with the landlord and/or the letting agents? Possibly along the lines of damages to your valuable books caused by the damp, and the cost of hiring dehumidifiers to return the property to the state that you contracted to rent it in?
5. I am amazed that this bass is still available and that people are lowballing you. The pickup alone would cost over a ton. These instruments are great value for money, have a free bump on me.
6. How about an aby box between the guitar and sansamp, one output to the tuner the other to the sansamp?
7. This was an interesting one. An as-new Vigier Excess, one-feedback seller demanding no paypal, zero-feedback buyer and a bargain price, if it all turns out all right on the night! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vigier-Excess-Bass-Guitar-Brand-New-With-Padded-Case-and-Stand-/261405436093?autorefresh=true&pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3cdcfa68bd&nma=true&si=jenh7CdvUMIp6cVH25Kp7YxL4aA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
8. Aesthetic? I thought that was some kind of artificial limb. Listen to your inner wisdom!
9. Call me odd fashioned if you like but I don't see the point of status updates anyway. What is this, Facebook? Besides which some of the usual mechanisms for the orderly running of the forum, such as the ability to report a status update for offensive content, are lacking. I give it until the first attempt to advertise something for sale without paying the listing fee before it is turned off, but I would be glad to see it turned off now.
10.
Yeah, I'm currently wondering whether I should just plump for a new one. The fact that its all digital makes me think that a guarantee might be worth having (analogue effects are normally fixable yourself if they go pearshaped).
I was glad I'd done that with my B9-1ut, the unit was fine but the power supply stopped working after a fairly short time and was replaced under guarantee, no problem thanks to GAK .
11.
Surely you are supposed to contact the police.
This is what the Bank of England recommend that you should do.
12. No.Tom Guitars. http://notomguitars.com/ .
13. There is a decent set of tab for this on fretplay.com including the middle 8 which is the only part that requires any effort.
14. I will be bidding on this for sure, it has a gk3b fitted which is worth a lot to me as a vb99 user.
15. How about Shipbuilders by Peter Yorke? It was a test piece many years ago but is none the worse for that and I always enjoyed playing it. There are some nice arrangements of Holst too.
16. I've played this bass, it is immaculate and perfectly set up, and Mike is a great guy to deal with.
17. I used to get my 3/4 in an Austin A30, with room for a small drum kit in the boot and a small drummer in the back seat. Happy days!
18. No, the B3 doesnt have an aux in. It depends how you practice, but I find my tascam to be the ideal tool for learning stuff.
19. Yes, I worded that badly, apologies. I should have said have you considered learning a melody instrument, it would add something extra. And it is always fun to learn new stuff.
20. With this line up, the best thing you can do to help the overall sound of the band is to forget about bass and learn another melody instrument such as tenor banjo, accordion or mandola. Bodhran and guitar is more than enough accompaniment.
21. A cheap way to try out the U Bass option is the Harley Benton Kahuna spotted by Dannybuoy , see his separate thread. I guess it depends what kind of Irish Folk music you're playing. Bands like Horslips and The Pogues have used the bass guitar very successfully. Sharon Shannon and the Woodchoppers and Clannad, have done fantastic things with double bass, De Danann with cello, Bothy Band with clavinet. I think these are the exception rather than the rule though. Apart from Sharon Shannon, I can't think of many jigs and reels type bands who have benefitted from the introduction of a bass, and there's at least one clip of De Danann on the net showing how spectacularly terrible it can turn out.
22. Am I right in thinking that the ACG preamp is three stacked pots? Of so why not replace one with a pair of normal pots and put the resulting 4 knob into the bass collection? A nordstrand pre improved my sb465 no end.
23.
Think that is a 460 Series with a Padauk top.
Or more likely, Zebrano.
24. Think that is a 460 Series with a Padauk top. Very nice. Edit; Not sure why he's described it as a 5-string though, it clearly only has 4!
