1.
I have been very disappointed by the lack of DB stuff at the shows, the only DB being the one on the Strings & Things stand which is there to sell DB strings.
In fairness, it is the London BASS GUITAR Show. I'd like to see Yamaha amongst the exhibitors: finding their basses to try is quite hard in my experience. I can't believe that they can't afford the show fees.
2.
Haha, I so agree with that. LBGS guys, the single massive improvement you can make to the show is seriously enforcing the 45 minutes to the hour (or whatever proportion is deemed appropriate) silence rule. Nobody seemed to do that on any of the previous years, and loud slapping and excessively high volume were constant, and that is costing you the goodwill and custom of many, many potential visitors.
Plus one for this. I didn't attend last year for precisely this reason.
3. Talk to Max at sfx sound - he has made a very nice 2-channel rack mount pre-amp and he will also be able to build something with the right input impedance if you're suffering from the usual piezo transducer impedance mismatch.
4. Out: No basses One accordion One banjo In: No basses (I was going to say Duesenberg, but that was last year - where does the time go?) One Roland digital accordion One much nicer banjo Several Zoom pedals, before I settled on the M60B A set of decent round wounds for my Precision, which have replaced the TI flats that were killing the sound :-) What have I learnt? That I'm mostly happy with the basses I have - like Mick McCarthy, I don't see much out there to make an improvement for the money I have to spend.
5. We have a gig this NYE, first time for a lot of years. How do others go about stopping in time for midnight, and what do you do about playing the chimes from Westminster? Radio? Fake it with a keyboard sample :-) ?
6. Sometimes the search engine does work! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205633-in-ear-monitors-help-needed/
7.
At the moment if you internet search the band "The Angry Badger" you get Soundcloud, gigs etc that come up but the Facebook page is way down the searches. It should make our FB page more visible (hope so anyway).
I guess it depends what you mean by internet search, but when I type site:facebook.com "The Angry Badgers" into Google, you're the first hit. I don't have an arsebook account so I can't like you, sorry.
8.
To me, it is a decent tune, but where would you put it in a set..??
Somewhere near the start - I'd want 3 or 4 uptempo songs to get things moving, then if I was going to play a ballad I might try and sneak it in early in the set, say 4th or 5th song in. For a festival slot you're not going to get very long - 45 minutes, 1 hour maybe? So I wouldn't want to allow any passengers, everything has to earn it's place in the set.
And as always, before we think about binning songs, you need to hear how they come out..
For sure. I always try and keep an open mind until at least the first rehearsal, if only for the democratic process to take it's course.
9. I think you're going to need a couple of pub gigs, or some kind of gigs, to shake things down. The one place you will get family groups of 30-40 is the open air festivals - around here they are very popular with that family group, they can take the kids out and let them blow off a bit of steam, have a picnic, a couple of beers and relax. I'd never heard of Ordinary World and had to look it up - if you're going to do a Durannie you'd be better off with something from their good period in the '80s, more uptempo, that people will remember.
10. Bump for price drop to £40 shipped.
11. That's a bargain in comparison with the stuff in the Russ Andrews catalogue.
12. Yes, I've got a Star bass that I bought from Greene King. I don't have any pictures of it, but the forsale thread is here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/217359-sold-duesenberg-star-bass . I put some Status half-rounds on it and it sounds formidable. Definitely no clickly brightness with the neck pickup and the tone rolled off.
13. Mornats is right, both my 465 and the other 5 I used to have are 19mm at the bridge.
14.
The necks might be licensed blanks, but I doubt very much they let them use the trademark. The two things are worlds apart.
Spacey is correct, at least as far as Warmoth is concerned. Warmoth publish their licence here. http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Necks/fender_lic.pdf It states in clause 6 " ... nor shall it (WARMOTH) place on any Replacement Neck any name logo or mark owned by FMIC . I don't know whose necks Limelight uses, but I'd be surprised if other licenses said anything different. I can see why Limelight no longer puts the Fender logos on.
15. Some very nice playing on that clip. Good luck with the sale.
16. I just wanted to make sure you're aware that the P-Retro doesn't give you a full active tone stack for the treble and bass controls. It uses the passive treble and bass controls as an input to the active circuit. That allows you to boost the mids, boost treble and bass together (I find it easier to think of this as a mid-cut) and have a bass frequency boost or bright boost.. It's a great bit of kit which really adds a lot to a standard precision, but if you want full active treble and bass you might be better off with a U-retro, or an external pre-amp.
17. For sale: One Fishman BP100 double bass pickup. It's in good working order but is missing the felted clips, which are no loss. I'll supply it with some K&K Sound micro-thin double sided tape, which works perfectly. [s]£50 Now £40[/s] Now £35 shipped.
18. If you have any singing teachers near you, talk to them - they may have a student who is ready to make the move to a live band.
19. I had an EBS Neo 2x12 for several years which stood up to pub gigging and handled everything I could throw at it.
20. Yes please Clarky. Please pm me to sort out the details.
21. Put your pictures on photo bucket and include the <IMG> tags here.
22. That hole will be for the LED on a John East P-Retro. I'd have had this if I thought it would fit my CIJ !
23. We are at the excellent Bay Horse in Sudbury, for the third year running. They go to great lengths to decorate the pub and bands and customers are expected to turn up in fancy dress. Last year the barmaid spent 4 hours making up her face to look like it had all started to fall off - fantastic. We love it, it's a top night and a great gig. 24. I have Status half round on my duesenberg star short scale, really good sound, not completely dead but not zingy in the slightest. Medium length because of the tailpiece. A bit more tension than the ti flats I had on my precision but not as much as chromes.
25.
Yep, the blue one is, disregard the green one! I have been having problems posting my pictures as they all seem to be too big and I cant easily resize them. Every time I post a picture I have to delete another one from one of my other adverts.....
Put them on Photobucket and include the <IMG> tags in your posting.
