1. Thanks for the help, guys. Not sure whether it will shrink with a bit of heating. I will have a ratch about in the spares box to see if I can find anything similar and practice on it. Can't quite make out the detail on that stripper, though it's a nice red colour! I was thinking though that it might be sensible to separate the individual cables for half an inch or so, then strip each one individually, is that what you recommend?
2.
Going to order my Reidmar and a single genz benz focus lt 2x10 today. Very excited. Is it a bank holiday today in the UK or are the shops open.
It is a bank holiday in England. Dunno about Scotland. The Internet will still be open for business.
3.
The 210 might rate around 400w whereas the 212 should be closer to 600watts with 8 ohms cabs..
The 212 is rated 600W 4 Ohm, the 210 is rated at 500W 4 Ohm, for what it's worth. Neither is available in 8 Ohm and the EBS HD350 happily runs at 2 Ohms. I think Kiwi had one of each, might be worth giving him a shout. I'm not sure what it would add. The 210 is slightly more portable, but the 212 is pretty good in that respect. For more noise (though I'm with borntobeloud on this one), the OP would probably do better to pick up another 212. These seem to be much more common than the 210, at least in the For Sale forum here.
4. Decided to see if I could find out why my Crate Power Block is dead, and sure enough the 12-way ribbon cable from the pre-amp board to the main board is coming away at the pre-amp board end. I can clean up the holes on the pre-amp board, but how to strip back enough conductor on the ribbon cable to solder it back in place? There isn't very much slack in the cable, so I've got maybe one go at this before it becomes too short and will require replacing altogether.
5.
i am confused because the blend has only one wire going to it on doctor j's diagram and already has 2 one mine ...
Um, the blend in Dr J's diagram has 4 wires going to it - one to the front pickup one to the back pickup, an earth to the volume control and a yellow one going to the pre-amp.
6.
I Can't believe that this has been on here since Sept and I've not even had a tyre kicker.
Me neither. Normally I wouldn't give anything Ashdown house-room, but I've used one of these and they are different, they really make a great sound and plenty of it.
7. You need to search for threads like this one: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/167088-best-compressor/ and what you're looking for is posts by 51m0n .
8.
I might have an issue with my Reidmar. At loud volumes it's cutting out when I slap...as if it was hitting a limiter. It has only started to happen over the past couple of weeks. Even when the compressor/limiter control is off it still happens. Has anyone come across this yet? It could be that I am pushing the amp to its full capability, but it's a concern nonetheless Hi my man where did you get to with resolving your problems
See post #350 on the previous page of articles.
9. Dropkick Murphy's might be worth a listen too if you're more into the electric side of things.
10. If you want totally clean, you need to put Euphonic Audio on your list.
11. Is the guy standing under the left-most LED light about to use MacDaddy's head as a dart board?
12. Bit of blues always goes down well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mavu1RvKJAM
13. Good luck. All these things can be done for little money or effort, and will help your cause: Get some business cards done, you can get 250 for free if you don't mind not choosing the design. Get a facebook page up, and update it regularly. If you have the facilities, record a couple of numbers at a practice and burn some CDs to distribute. +1 to not offering to play for free. If you're feeling generous, tell the landlord what your fee is and offer him a discount for the first gig.
14. Used it again last night in a village hall at our practice, on a wooden floor. Once again much improved. I've ordered one this morning, so dave.c can breath a sigh of relief :-) Finally, there is a downside. The combination of this and the thumpinator means that I can now hear everything so clearly, it's painfully obvious how much fret buzz and rattle my bass is making. At first I thought it was the mid-range driver breaking up! Out with the allen keys and screwdrivers for a bit of tweaking.
15. They have previous - anyone else remember the Rory Gallagher custom shop strat?
16. Well, each to his own I suppose. It looks to me like it was made out of an old sideboard.
17. How does the 4/8 ohm switchable bit work ? I didn't think this was possible. Edit: I found the answer - they use 2 sets of voice coils per driver and you switch between them.
18. Could be right Liam, it's just that every time I see the phrase 'get the full power from the amp' I start to lose the will to live. To get the max volume, he needs to run 2 4Ohm speakers one off each channel and move the maximum amount of air. As far as I can see, the spec doesn't say what the output impedance or power delivery is for bridged mode.
19. The amp you've linked to has Speakon connectors or terminal posts (not banana plug sockets). You need Speakon to 1/4 jack speaker leads (not audio cables). Best bet here is to talk to obbm.
20. Might be worth having a word with Mike Walsh at Iceni / Purple Chilli - they're based in Witham.
21. I borrowed one of these from Dave.c for a couple of gigs last weekend and I have to say I'm impressed. Gig no. 1 was in a large marquee on a stage about 4 feet off the ground - a steel or aluminium framed structure which looked like it was based on a trailer. Bass player uses a Yamaha EUB through a Hartke kickback and DI's into the PA. Stage sound is normally boomy even on a concrete floor - this time it was much tighter, more focussed and the sound on stage meant we could hear everything more clearly as a result. It was an improvement from when we played the same gig last year. Gig no. 2 was in a small pub in Ipswich (The Spreadeagle, for locals) which has recently installed a 'stage', a 6-inch high wooden structure (more of an overgrown drum riser). I was on bass, used my EBS cab (slightly larger than the pad) and Markbass head. Cab within a foot of the back wall. I've played the venue several times before and once again I think my sound was a definite improvement. So for me, it's worked well and I'll probably buy one. I don't understand why using a stand will reduce the amount of vibration transmitted to the floor. It seems to me that any stand capable of holding up a 2x12 or 4x10 is going to be very rigid and will transmit the same amount of vibration to the floor as the cab would. Anyone?
22. The vocal track is even more unpleasant than Adele's. That takes some doing.
23. A word of warning though - not all Speakon sockets will accept a jack plug. I don't know what's fitted to a 104HF and the unhelpful Markbass web site doesn't offer the option of dowloading the manual. You might need to experiment, or find somebody who has one.
