1. If your amp is like my Markbass, the effects loop is parallel, meaning that you get a blend of clean signal and whatever's in the effects loop. No way to control the ratio of clean:effected though. SFX make a pedal which will allow you to blend a clean signal with whatever effects you want, or switch them off altogether: http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=sm
2. +1 for what Platypus said. Tecamp will know whether it's under warranty or not from the serial number. I sent my out-of-warranty Puma 110 back for a replacement driver and the charges weren't extortionate, although with hindsight I wish I'd done it myself. I emailed [email protected] and got a very swift reply back from Juergen. I have contact details if you need them, PM me.
3. And it did sound so nice with my Burman, and was wide enough to balance it on. Guess I'll be sticking with EBS for a bit longer then.
4. Bought some strings from Tom - everything went smoothly, great guy to do business with. Recommended
5. Blast, that'll teach me to prevaricate!
6.
I was looking into using it to triggering a rack mounted synth etc., but that ain't gonna happen in my present band..
I think you're going to struggle with that. The V-Bass system itself isn't Midi, and the Midi-out exporting functions are very limited: you can use it to save patches to a computer and re-load them, but that's really about it. Fun piece of kit though. I'm still using mine quite a lot. I think it's priced to sell at £250.
7. Aria fretless with maple board. I had one like this with a lined rosewood board, really nice bass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-Pro-II-Fretless-Bass-Guitar-Good-Condition-New-Strings-/130594646447?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1e680c29af Another Aria, possibly late 70's? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bass-guitar-used-/180748297839?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a1570266f
8. I see. Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated.
9. Looking at my message inbox, I see that some of the conversations have been flagged as 'deleted', with a little red icon. Would anyone care to explain to me what the significance of this is, or tell me where I can go and read about it?
10. Hm. I just went through to the checkout without the self-signed certificate warning. Loooking at the cert, it appears to be issued to www.inlaystickers.com by GeoTrust, which is verified by Firefox (though whether it's secure is another argument!) Maybe try it again and see if you get the same certificate presented?
11. I've seen sousaphones in Eb and Bb and they probably also exist in C. Personally I think a tuba sounds better, whatever you're trying to do. Some gratuitous Tuba virtuosity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHMyrhilkdo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y75ryZC8LB0
12. I played Eb Tuba for several years but don't own my own tuba. If you're serious about low brass go and have a chat with your local brass band. They are usually short of bass players and will be delighted to see you - most will have training bands and will provide you with an instrument and tuition. In my experience it's very very hard to get anything approaching a musical noise out of a sousaphone. Horrible things.
13.
If that fails buy an extractor. This type of thing. http://www.screwfix....msb!-1317304640
I wouldn't recommend these. They usually break, and then you are left with a hardened piece in the centre of the bolt which is impossible to drill out. Besides which , the smallest in this set is 4mm, which is way too big to attempt to screw into a neck bolt. Mole grips or cutting a screwdriver slot is the way to go.
14. +1 for the sentiments expressed here! I had a Peavey 410TX and it sounded great, only moved it on because I needed something lighter.
15.
there are still some ba55 numbers available at dvla. i could find my name (rog) and initials (rad) but i'll settle for ace. sorry about lower case.
Not so many now. I could only find BA55 AAA I'm a bit puzzled by this: http://www.bossreg.com/plates/detail.html?plate=BA55ACE . Is yours up for sale, or are they a bunch of chancers? I am fairly certain I saw BA55 CAB on a taxi in Victoria Street a year or so ago.
16. Very cool, never seen one of these before. One approach might be to try and find something of a similar vintage: WEM, Vox, Selmer, Sound City, Marshall ,,, There's a Vox 2x15 on the 'bay at the moment, for instance.
17. It's how I got started on bass, aged about 9 or 10 - my father brought home a cello because i was too small for a bass (and we didn't know about chamber basses at that point). Can't remember what strings were on it though. Knowing my old man, probably the original cello strings.
18. One of , if not the, definitive resources is present right on this 'ere site. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/697-obscure-musical-backwaters/ I keep asking the mods to re-sticky it, and they keep ignoring me. Nice bass by the way, if I didn't already have an unlined fretless ...
19. Fair enough, I'm not familiar with the design of that particular amp.
20. Interesting bass. I'd say the '91 serial number is right, based on the sticker in the cavity. I didn't think the move out of Japan happened until '95 so maybe it just has a later cover plate with the 'Made in Korea' sticker? Can't read the serial number on the cover plate, does it tally with the one in the cavity? I've never seen an unlined fretless with a rosewood board before - wonder if that was an original board or fitted afterwards?
21.
Ah, mine is 100W, and with the level at 3 it already overdrives.
Have you thought about changing the pre-amp valves for something with lower gain?
22. I've been using a Roland V-Bass for a couple of years, mostly to get synth sounds. I bought a Xiosynth and I'm currently trying to find time to set up the patches I need so I can use that instead.
23.
I was trying to think of a musical instrument which could be played with one hand, and all I came up with were harmonica (badly) and piano (sort of).
Most brass instruments, excluding trombone. There was also the late lamented Dave Brady, who only had one arm but played concertina and guitar with great panache. Sorry to hear your news Roger and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Horses are nasty bad tempered things!
24. The double bass is the size it is for a reason.
