1. A Yamaha SBV500. I had one of this, this colour too. Should probably have kept it, it was a decent bass and played very nicely. 2. Do you think it might be a good idea to take '9th January' out of the title of this thread, otherwise easily confused people will wonder why you're organising something on a Monday night.
 3. Here you go guys, the Gear Porn thread. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=96631&st=0 The blue (or is it green) one in bassmanady's first message now belongs to me, and it's great!
 4.
Yeah. Except last night and next week :-/ a series of events has conspired to keep me away for a few weeks Grrr!
Are you going to be there tomorrow, 4th August ? Last chance for a few months.
 5. My high-end gear is for my convenience, not the audience's. It makes a massive difference to me being able to carry a 2x12 Neo in one hand, instead of finding someone to help me struggle with the 4x10 Peavey which preceded it. There was one sound man who said "EBS, MarkBass, I just knew that was going to sound great", but then he's a bassist too.
 6.
Antoria EB copy. This one is being sold by a familiar character.
Hmm, so what's his excuse for absenteeism from Japcrap? This Westone http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bass-electric-gu...=item2a129c25a1 looks like a nice instrument at a decent price.
 7.
I play Yates open mic every Thurs it's usually a good night.
Except last night? I went past at around 9.00 and again around 10.00 and it was utterly dead, dodgy disco on the PA and that's all.
 8. Me too. I don't normally hold with this 'our tune' sh*t, but this particular song has a very strong personal resonance for me. It's pretty synthy though, i'd have thought, despite the presence of the great Levin? For me, So is the best thing Gabriel has done by a million miles, there isn't a bad moment on it and some of the lyrics cut to the quick.
 9.
What a line - just been doing it with a student. Proper Jamerson. I am sure you all know this, but hey, I enjoyed teaching it. Lovely stuff.
Yes, it's a thing of beauty, and I'm stuck with playing an 80s poodle-hair scream guitar cover version. Boo. Didja see Gladys doing this song on the Muppet Show, complete with animated grapevine doing the backing vocals? Sheer quality.
 10. Waxies Dargle are playing in The Spreadeagle in Ipswich on Saturday 23rd July, from about 9.00 pm. If you are partial to a bit of Pogues music come on down. I'm on bass for this one, since the regular bassist is otherwise engaged. We should really sort out another bass dep so I can carry on with mandolin/fiddle/cittern.
 11.
Anyone playing at broadstairs folk week?
Nope, did the first 14 festivals straight (back when it was called Broadstairs Folk Week) and that was enough!
 12. And here's a very nice medium-scale Aria TSB 650. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-II-TSB-650-...=item23121a56e6
 13. Grant '70s jazz - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Jazz-Bass-Gu...=item1c1cf36234 Looks quite tidy - don't know much about Grant.
 14. Nice find Jack, well spotted and good to see it added to this thread. MODS CAN WE HAVE OUR STICKY BACK PLEASE!! I think the SB110s are the later ones that the Bass Centre are selling now - Chinese made I believe though I could be wrong. Ive just acquired psychoandy's red 5-string which was fitted with stupidly light strings - 35-110. I put some 40-125 Hartke's on it because they were lying around but I'm very disappointed with the output of the 'B' which is lower than all the others and much less than my 465. Next move is a toss up between some DR Sunbeams (I've heard people complain before about the dead 'B' on the Hartke strings), fitting another Artec pre-amp or thinking about a pickup change which is the last resort since the ones in my other Bass Collections are all fine. Comments, questions, thoughts?
 15.
By the sound of it, Yates on Thursday 7th July sounds like it might be a suitable choice.
Unhfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it tomorrow. Maybe next week?
 16.
Are you sure about that OLP? I've been looking for a 19mm 5er and I'd have gone for an 5-string OLP like a shot if it had 19mm!
+1. The OLP I had was 16.5mm which is one reason why I got rid of it. The G&L Tribute I replaced it with was about the same. Now I have Bass Collections (19mm, though one has an adjustable bridge so could be narrowed) and a TRB 5P (19mm). And I have really small hands, even before the damage to the left one in a bike accident. I find the combination of a wide flat neck and wide spacing much more comfortable.
 17. Woo! It's tomorrow!! Despite Bilbo's cynicism, I'm really looking forward to playing this one. Hope to see you all there.
 18.
Jesse J for me..with the little girl How a 'new' performer had the bottle and the ability to pull that off at her biggest gig as yet (IIRC) was something else..IMO.
+1 - just watched the highlights this morning, great stuff. I'm also enjoying Gaslight Anthem.
 19. I've bought cable from Studiospares in the past. Fantastic service.
 20. Now here's something that doesn't happen very often - both my bands are playing at the same music festival on the same day. The event is Stowupland Music on the Green, I'm playing at 4.30pm with Crossover and again with Waxies Dargle at 9.30pm.
 21.
I play Yates open mic every Thurs it's usually a good night.
Drat! Just got back from town and missed this! By the sound of it, Yates on Thursday 7th July sounds like it might be a suitable choice. Everyone is allowed, even banjo players and lawyers :-)
 22.
Where falling off bikes is concerned, that would indeed seem to be the case.
It could have worse, at least the ground was there to break his fall. Big +1 for Heathy for mentioning the great Rory Gallagher - I think 'Hands Off' is a brilliant song which doesn't use the 12-bar format. There are several people in this forum who should be singing the wise words of the legendary Martin Mull: Well I woke up this afternoon, and both cars were gone I was so upset, I threw my drink across the lawn.
 23.
im in..working lates next week mind..
No worries - what about the following week - first week in July? I'm working late on the Weds, Mon-Thurs is cool. Where do you suggest? I guess that the chances of finding any live music during the week are pretty slim. I am in desperate need of local info - I just made the mistake of going to Curry Corner, wtf happened to that place! It used to be the best place to go in 'nam 4 years ago, not any more!
 24. I'm working in Cheltenham for the next few weeks. If there are any Cheltenham basschatters who fancy a mid-week beer and a chat about thing bass, please get in touch via PM.
 25.
The bass department at Andertons is a pokey corner of the cellar, almost under the stairs. Hopefully the competition will make them up their game.
It has, although I don't know if this will result in any more choice in basses. http://www.andertons.co.uk/Pages/store-refit-2011.asp . One or two good bargains to be had there at the moment too. I don't see how Guitarguitar can get away with calling a store in Epsom 'London'. That's like having a Newcastle store in Carlisle!
