Matamp

When you get it, bring it round and we can A/B it against my EBS Neo 2x12 .
  2.
Yep - I've never heard anyone doing a Police cover either, which is odd as they were a big part of 80s/90s music.
Bed's too big without you, by Sheila Hylton, with more than a little help from Sly and Robbie. Totally transforms the song.
  3. Vintage strings always looks interesting when I drive past. Unfortunately it also looks closed!
  4.
Im glad you mentioned 'Aint nobody' ive tried to it learn on a 4 and it just aint working!! Hence the search for a decent 5 string for the new function band! A lot of the songs ive been asked to learn go lower than a 4, if i want the job i need the right tools, can anyone recommend good 5's below £1000???
Oddly enough it was Aint Nobody which finally convinced me that I needed to go to 5 strings. It really depends on what kind of string spacing you're looking for. I had a G&L2500 tribute, which was a brilliant sounding bass but I didn't like the narrow string spacing. I'm much happier with a wide spacing and the corresponding flat fingerboard: if that's what you like, try to find a Yamaha TRB5P
  5.
Sold 2 EA cabs to Headofire. Supersmooth transaction. Lovely bloke - could have stood in that hotel carpark talking about bass all night!
This was a complex deal - Graeme wanted one cab and I the other. Sometimes you find out more about someone when things don't go without a hitch - Graeme had a minor problem getting the second cab to me, but he put in a big effort to sort things out and it all worked out fine. Absolutely top chap, recommended.
  6.
I hold my fingers as though holding a plectrum and then play exactly the same as using a pick, but using my nails. Cos I'm 'ard.
Bernard Edwards called this technique 'chucking'. It's really handy for things like the intro to 'Everybody Dance'. There are probably other threads about it on the site.
  7.
An alder body which has been painted, sculpted, routed and fitted with a high mass bridge (if you bought a fender highmass you'd be looking at about $60)
Sorry that didn't come across very well: I meant that £60 was good value for the body even if you threw most of the other bits away. People planning drive-by's of the various shops can take Woodbridge off the list: no guitars here, just girly dresses. Unless of course ...
  8. I knew of someone at Newark who made a bass with a marble body. It did have good sustain. My banjo weighs 14lbs, which is heavier than most of the basses listed here. It's no problem with a decent strap.
  9.
Plugged the Ryder/mim p bass in and im pleased with the sound. The buzzing has completely gone and Im a lot happier with this neck. I really like the body finish and the bridge. I know i changed a lot of parts but I didnt buy any of the replacement bits as they were all old unused bits I had lying around. As far as Im concerned its still a £60 bass! I will post pictures tomorrow after the neck shim hopefully.
So, that's £60 for a painted alder body.
  10.
Remember him - Dance Away had a cracking line too!
+1 to that . Dance Away was a masterpiece for so many reasons.
  11. £400 is already a cracking price: Mr Blackman has one just like this, at £625 plus shipping.
  12.
I can't imagine a DB on the roof of my VW Polo
Why not? I used to carry mine on the roof of my Austin A30 !
  13.
Yeah the Syncros (not Synchro - common mistake ) are very complex, but off road they're miles better than a Defender, but more civilised on the road. And I don't get where you're coming from with the aftermarket parts, because the T25 / T3 Syncros were still done by VW, so it's not a fully aftermarket system.
The point was that you're stuck with paying full price for manufacturer's spares because there are fewer pattern parts, and T4s are still new enough that not many have been broken. I SERIOUSLY doubt that the off-road performance is anything like a Defender though.
  14. I think you're going to struggle. I have an A6 Avant and a 3/4 size bass will fit longwise behind the front seats without the headstock protruding through the gap between the seats: but the A6 Avant is a very long loadspace and most 4x4s won't be as long. The 110 will, but the kindest thing you can say about it is that it's compromised on-road even if it's better off-road. It would just about fit in the RR Classic I used to own if you put it across the diagonals. By the way, that had a viscous coupling similar to the Haldex system derided by misrule, and the off-road performance didn't suffer noticeably: only the guys with arb lockers front and rear got much further before they got stuck (and they used to change half-shafts like everyone else filled up thier windscreen washer bottles :-) As far as the T4 synchro goes, it's a complicated system which will use more fuel than the 2wd system, but it's a lot newer than the type 25 so there are fewer aftermarket parts. I gather that most are fitted with a rear difflock and they have a crawler gear in addition to the normal gear ratios but I can't confirm that. I also hear that the front axles are liable to expensive problems which can be fixed by pulling the half-shafts: so if you do go and look at one make sure it's all intact!
  15.
The serial number is 912792 which I believe means it was made in 1992.
I'd have said 1991, not that it makes a lot of difference to the price of fish! Have a free bump from another Bass Collection owner.

  18. Out: G&L Tribute L2500 Dean B2 A bunch of effects pedals In: Bass Collection SB465 Yamaha TRB5P Roland V-Bass That doesn't look too bad. Best not to get started on guitars, banjos, mandolins, accordions, bouzoukis, fiddles, ...
  19. I love my TRB5P. Someone please buy this, to save poor old noel27k the hassle of bumping it every day!
  20. Sounds like an iAmp 600, the predecessor to the iAmp 800. Damn good amps - I have a 350 from about the same vintage. Someone on here had one, I think it might have been Tayste or Higgie.
  21.
I think bass collection stuff often had a L & R tuning peg on each side of the headstock as it allowed for a straight pull over the nut. I may be corrected though.
You are correct - All bass collection basses with this design of headstock, including the 5s, had the top and bottom string tuners swapped over. The string goes up the 'wrong' side of the tuner to give a straight pull and the swapped-over machine heads still turn the right way.
