1. My son has decided to sell his Epiphone Flying Vee. This was his Xmas present 3 years ago He played it for all of 3 weeks, decided he had mastered it (hah!) and hasn't touched it since. As you can see it's in reallly good condition, no marks on the neck and nothing visible on the body that I could photograph. However, most Vees seem to have a little bit of wear on the points, and this one has a tiny mark on the back of each pointy bit which I've tried to capture here: And there is a little tarnishing of the gold on the machine heads: The scale length is 30.5" so perfect for smaller hands. All the passive electrics work and there is no crackle on any of the pots. The bridge is a genuine Epiphone item in black, which was supplied as a replacement when the original gold one tarnished. There is no case with the instrument but I do have the original shipping box. Finally if anyone called 'Nathan' is interested in this, we can do you a good deal on a custom embroidered strap, featuring this very guitar! The instrument is fitted with a set of serviceable Dunlop Straploks which are included with the instrument. Nathan would like £125 for this instrument, plus shipping if necessary. It can be collected from Ipswich, Central London or points inbetween. We're not really interested in trades unless it is for cricket gear. I can bring this to the SE bass bash if anyone would like to see it.
2. I'm delighted to say that this is now sold and is going to a very good home.
3. I bought a Morley volume pedal from Alex. Great guy, very easy transaction and the item arrived in great condition and extremely well packed. Nice one.
4. Up for sale is my 4-string Dean B2 Brian Bromberg signature model. If you like the looks and sounds of the earlier Peavey B-Quad but are looking for something of more modest means then this might appeal. It's a 34" scale length with a 5-piece neck through and what I think is a flamed maple cap. The fingerboard is rosewood, other than that I've no idea what the woods used in construction are. Original Dean web site page: http://www.deanguitars.com/bromberg_signature.htm but doesn't tell you anything useful. This bass is very light and playable, with an extremely thin and fast 2-octave neck. Besides the conventional Jazz-style pickups the B2 has a Fishman Piezo bridge. There's a 3-way toggle which allows you to select piezo only, mag pickups only or blend the two. On its own the Piezo gives a very rich woody tone. The top octave rings out like the low end of a classical guitar. When used with the mag pickups it seems to add a bit of punch. All in all it's a very versatile instrument with a huge range of sounds. It's also a very clean signal so makes a good instrument for recording. The downside is getting your head round the controls: there's a master volume, a piezo volume and one stacked pot with volume for each mag pickup. The second stacked pot is bass/treble for the mag pickups and the final pot is a mid range control, again for the mag - there's no EQ for the piezo. Some pictures: The bass is in excellent condition, with only two small dings next to the jack socket on the bottom edge. I've tried to photograph these without much success here: the vertical white mark on the left of the photo is a reflection. The price is £250 . I'm not really looking for trades. There's no case, so shipping isn't an option. I can deliver the bass to Ipswich, central London or points in between, I can take it to the South East Bass Bash on 27th November, failing that you'll need to collect it.
5. I've got one of these: http://www.fretlord.com/FretlightZ_LED_fre...illuminator.htm works reasonably well on a fretted bass. I guess you could point it down the edge of the neck by clamping it onto the E string.
6.
This thread might as well be called "Trolling versus Sh**stirring, which one is best?"
I'm guessing you're new here? That applies to many threads started by Pete Academy.
7.

Congratulations Kev, I've been on here since Bassworld days and you're the first person to go into my "dickhead" filter.
8. 'Scuse me, but what happened about the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 ? If you bought this on-line you're legally allowed 7 working days to change your mind, "cooling off period" it's called.
9. If anyone is interested in one of these, my son has one just like this which he is keen to sell. No hard case but I do have the original shipping boxes.
10.
I think that's a problem for a lot of people.
That Gareth is, or that they are? I haven't seen any wanted posters :-)
11. I think you're OK as long as you use full-range and not subs.
12.
Still available?
er, get a clue guys, this thread is more than two years old.
13.
Lookin for some help peeps. In a covers band, we generally to indie rock but are having to sell out for a party gig and want to do Living On A Prayer by Bon Jovi, cheesy I know but you gotta cater for the audience. So anyways was trying to figure out how to do the whoa woah thing, sounds like they use a vocoder or something any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Our guitarist gets reasonably close to this with a wah pedal. Really helps if you have a keyboard player who can nail the chords at the start (before the bass comes in ) - we find that people latch onto that striaght away.
14. Yes, the forum rules state that you must put a price on your ad.
15.
Bellowhead good, but have to be seen live. Great bass (tuba?)
Very close - I think it's a Helicon, but you'd have to be a certifiable tuba wonk to know that. I was very disappointed with both of EC's numbers - I'd expect someone with Clapton's financial clout to be able to hire a piano player who could play a decent stride solo for a number like this, but the pianist in his band was clearly not up to it and Jools (who definitely is) had obviously been told to toe the line. I think the punk band got the sh*t end of the stick - only one minute 20 of their excellent stuff in order to make way for a second turgid Clapton tune. So far this series I make that two really decent acts - Imelda Mae and Bellowhead.
16. Well, my gig was cancelled, and I need to meet up with bassmanady to complete a certain transaction, so I will be there too. I'll bring my Bass Collection 465 and GK3-B plus Roland V-Bass unit so there will be opportunities for people to try that out. Not sure what else to bring, I could bring a Burman Pro 4000 but there wasn't a lot of interest in it last time despite us hooking it up to Merton's Vintage and making a lot of irresponsible noise. Maybe my Yamaha BB800 to make silverfoxnik all nostalgic for the Good Old Days :-) Unfortunately Dave.c has a gig, er, I mean fortunately, er. stop digging, so he wont' be able to come along. If anyone wants a lift from Ipswich or picking up from somewhere close to the A12 on route please let me know. I have a big car and can cart metric shitloads of gear.
17.
As for somewhere I can try one… 'Find someone that owns one' was the answer!
Great offer from Ped, if I were you I'd snatch his hand off. Make sure you get that the right way round ;-) In the meantime, if you can get to the SE Bass Bash it looks like both Ped and I will be there, and I will bring my unit and bass so between us there should be an opportunity to do a bit of tinkering.
18.
The bad news for most of you, is they are on CANVEY ISLAND !!!
Ha ha, King Kong walks on water, watch out Canvey Island :-) Immense result , well done and I wish you success with this venture. Definitely yes from me, if you can persuade the great Wilko to turn up for a guest appearance that would be better still!
19.
Would people be willing to travel this far?
Personally, no. It's just as easy to go to the SE bass bash from Ipswich.
20. Look what just popped up on eBay. Dougal's old Carvin XB-75P http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Carvin-XB-75P-5-Supe...=item1e5f43053a Looks like I'm fated never to own this bass - what kind of numpty runs an auction for an instrument like this that finishes at 7.30 on a saturday night, when anyone likely to be interested is playing a gig. Mutter mutter. I wish personal circumstances had allowed me to buy it when it was for sale on here. Oh well.
21. I have a V-Bass floor unit and a GK3-B pickup installed on one of my basses. It's a great unit but it's not without problems, and if you're like me at some point you will find yourself thinking - I cant' be arsed with this. The sticky tape idea is fine in theory, until it falls off in the middle of a gig. It will do this, the only question is when it will happen. If you're doing any kind of paid work and relying on the unit, it's unprofessional to think that you will get away with the sticky tape. It's also pretty difficult to get the pile of shims that need to sit under the GK3-B to the right height. This adjustment is much easier if the pickup is screwed to the body and sitting on a couple of springs. I clamped the controller on the front of my bass not the back like Ped did, which means it's easier to fit into cases. The V-Bass has a huge range of sounds, which means that it's really hard to get your head around picking a small number of useable sounds. The other challenge that I've faced is getting a consistent volume with all the effects and pre-sets - synth sounds seem to disappear in the mix, ditto things like the upright bass sounds, anything with distortion or boost leaps off the stage and you end up setting the gain to 25% or less just to keep a consistent volume across a set of patches. I do use the synth voices for a lot of the modern synthy stuff in our set. Prior to this I used a Korg G5 - I never tried the Markbass synths but the Korg was better than all the others on the market including the Akai for tracking. The V-bass tracks better, though I'm told that basses fitted with Graphtec Ghost saddles and Midi Expander track much better. I do use the amp and guitar modelling and some of the effects. Is it essential? Absolutely not. I'm finding more and more that instead of trying to use models for Precision, Jazz, Ovation (for Don't Stop...), Ricky, ... just find a decent sound from the on-board guitar pickups and the amp, and stick to it. No-one in the audience will notice the difference anyway. I've just bought a small Novation keyboard synth and am experimenting with the sounds, but I'm already pretty close to realising that (a) it's 100 times better to use a synth for synth sounds and a bass for bass sounds and ( if I'd spent the money on a synth instead, I could have bought a mini moog! Eventually this will replace the V-Bass and I will be free from the tyranny of only being able to play one bass. It's a really close call and for me it's been a painful learning point, but if you have any kind of ability on a keyboard you're better off to buy a keyboard synth and just use the bass to sound like a bass. Even if you haven't any keyboard skills it's probably still easier to learn how to play a keyboard (after all Depeche Mode managed it with no discernible talent) well enough to play synth basslines - OK we're not all Greg Phillinganes but it's a lot easier if you use both hands.
22.
Couple of days ago I received a mail from 'Grant at Korg' offering discounted behringer gear from the Behringer Distributor Clearence (sic) shop on ebay. Which I couldn't find.
Me too. Here. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/behringer-distribut...ce-stock/m.html Despite the supposed discount most of the gear seems to be at the same prices you'd already find it on the net. Didn't have any AD121s so I lost interest.
23.
I agree with this indeed, but still probably best to keep it private anyway because we don't want to come up on google if someone searches for 'Pope Visits UK' or something, it may attract unwanted attention. Fixed now, as you were ped
No worries and thanks for that.
24. OK. I didn't realise that you'd done it deliberately. I must have missed the announcement.
