I was looking at the site when not logged in earlier today, and the off-topic forum was visible. The ebay one wasn't. I could be wrong, but I thought off-topic and ebay were both hidden unless you logged in.

Well, that's true - Zoot cabs are no longer made. On the other hand, Purple Chilli cabs are. I think that was a marketing thing, because of the basses. It's your call, but I know Mike Walsh and I know that his customer service is legendary - if there's anything he can do to help you I'm sure he will. What have you got to lose for the price of a phone call?

I beg SK8's pardon. Hiwatt do use Partridge transformers, not sure whether these are made to Hiwatt's spec or the original Hiwatt spec which may be different. The Partridge Transformers brand is now owned by Transformers and Rectifiers Ltd and claims to be making them to the original design. As Mr Foxen says, if it works, it works. I'm sure they're fine amps. The point that there's no connection between the old and new Hiwatts other than the name, and no continuing manufacture or development and hence no consistent history or historical links still stands.

If I were you I'd have a chat with Mike Walsh at Zoot before you do anything drastic. Even if it is out of warranty.

I bought a rack bag from Nik - an excellent transaction all round and Nik was able to cope with me forgetting to send him the delivery address in his stride. Nice one - buy with confidence folks.

The reason you are struggling is that there is no connection between the Hiwatt amps produced by Dave Reeves company up until 1984 and the 're-issues' produced by the owners of Music Ground in the current century. When Hiwatt folded in 1984 Dave Reeves widow sold the rights to the name to one of the guys running Music Ground. That's it - end of connection, end of story. Don't know what the revival amps are like, but they're probably made in China. They're definitely not hand-wired by Harry Joyce, they definitely don't have Partridge transformers. Other than the name, there is no connection. All this is explained in painstaking detail on the hiwatt.org site and there's probably more information on plexi palace.

I saw him play with Joe Bonamassa last night. It was kinda hard to make out his rig (might have been a Markbass 2x10 on it's side) but the bass he was using was definitely an Xotic 5-string. The other reason for the Vintage, that it was built to fit underneath proper valve amps, is still valid and a stack of two compacts is not going to have anything like the same visual appeal or the necessary stability. Oh well, guess I'll be keeping my EBS 2x12 for a while longer.
