1. Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions. I picked up a box of Maplin springs today, bargain for 3 quid, and it looks like Axes R Us have the screws I need. Never thought of them. Sorted once again thanks to Basschat!
2. Can anyone suggest a likely supplier, either on-line or walk-in for some small wood screws? I need No. 3 x20mm long, round head. Preferrably black japanned but I'll take what I can get. In case anyone is wondering, this is to fix the Roland GK3B V-bass pickup to my bass - the second hand pickup that came with the unit didn't have any screws and I'm getting fed up with sticking it back on with tape. I'll also need some small compression springs, I was thinking either Maplins or chopping up a couple of ball point pens but better suggestions welcomed.
3.
True. But they can be moulded into a variety of interesting shapes. Ideal for friends and family with Xmas just around the corner.
And the winner is ... Someone please put this in the quotes thread for posterity.
4.
I wanted to keep it downstairs but the missus was very insistent that it be moved to the bass room.
Hmm. Mine lives in the bedroom. The upright I mean, not the Mrs. If only.
5.
That's cheap capos, I should hasten to add. There are all sorts of more expensive capos that purport to exert only the necessary pressure, but I have yet to meet a guitarist who has one.
The G7 is hands down the best capo that has ever existed. Never mind a guitar, I use one on a 10-string bouzouki and it stays in tune right up the neck even at the 10th fret. All the guitarists I've worked with who have seen this capo have started out by saying "that's a lot of money for a capo" and ended up buying one when they borrow it and realise how good it is.
6. Fair play to you Andy, there's no doubt that you're doing the right thing by your family. The fretless P is a lovely thing - I'm biased because I have what looks like the identical bass, except with frets. The build quality and sound of these not-for-export CIJ instruments is as good as any Fender I've ever seen. What's the neck profile on yours, P-bass, Jazz-bass or inbetween?
7. This looks like a piece of vintage jap crap to me, maybe Antoria - I think we need Bassassin or Spinynorman to give us a hand though.
8. All mine are in the 'Show Us Your Burmans' thread. I have to say that the crimp connectors in Mr Foxen's first picture look like a recipe for disaster to me. I don't know what that is, and I dont' want to !
9.
Anything I've went for in the last 4-8 weeks have either sprung the "just play the root note" crap on me
Ha ha, Peter Hook was on a documentary on BBC4 the other week : "Can't you just play the root note? - NO, cant you just fook off?"
10. I'll take this if you're happy to package it up and post it. Please PM me and we'll sort out the details.
11.
It should probably have KT77s, but earlier ones were EL34, not that the circuit will differ, but what is the power rating? EL34 would be 50w, KT77 would be 70,
Not sure I totally agree with this. As far as I can tell the original Genelec KT77 and all the clones will give you 50W for a pair. The original Genelec Golden Lion KT77 as Mr Foxen has in his 502 were the ones with the increased power output, up by 20% to give you 70W for a pair. The re-issues named 'Golden Lion KT77s' as blown up by Mr Garcia are chinese-made KT77 clones and will give 50W for a pair. I reckon the JJ Tesla KT77 is the best of the re-issues, that's what I use in my Burmans. There's probably not a lot of difference between that and an EL34. If the OP decides to change, get a matched pair and make sure to get the amp re-biased at the same time. Also as far as I know, the Pro series was designed for the KT77 and were always fitted with these from the factory. Could well be wrong about that.
12. It has an ebony board. I've played this bass and it's absolutely wonderful - the only reason it's still for sale is that there isn't room to fit a V-bass pickup to it, otherwise I would have bought it on the spot. I'm still wondering whether that was the right decision so hurry up before I change my mind. Ady is a thoroughly nice chap too, he even gave me a lift back to the railway station!
13. slaphappygarry did something similar - there's a thread on the forum called something like 'Pimp My OLP'. From memory I think he used an Artec SE preamp, can't remember if it was a 2 or 3 band. If you use a 3-band pickup , that has a mid sweep which would give you the option to pick the frequency you don't like and either cut or boost it.
14.
I think I will keep an eye on any Bass Collection basses coming up on eBay, I would love to try some of the others in the range.
Glad you got it sorted. flippyfloop had a nice-looking 460 in the for sale forums not so long ago. I have a 5-string SB 465, a fretless SB 330 and an SB 310 strung BEAD. You're welcome to drop in next time you're passing Martlesham Heath for a play and a cup of tea.
15. Work in intervals, not in notes!
16.
This was an eBay purchase, and the guitar had not been packaged well at all, wonder if this could have caused the problem? My only dilemma is wether to return the bass or keep it and begin my guitar electrics education.
It might be the reason why the seller wanted to move it on! Soldering that wire back on isn't a big deal - you're in Ipswich? I'm happy to pop round with my soldering iron if you want some help. I ended up replacing the electronics on my 465 with one of the Artec pre-amps. That made a big difference.
17. Forum rules state that you must include a price if it's for sale.
18.
Thread duly moved. Take it easy on him though guys, his intentions in posting were benevolent and we all know some people out there have difficulties with writing. It would have taken a little bit of bravery to contribute knowing there was a risk people might criticise. Mike - welcome and thanks for posting. Nice to have a collection of people here with an interest in these amazing amps!
Absolutely. Welcome to Basschat, Mike. Please ignore the peanut gallery. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the JJ KT77 . I have them in my Pro 4000 and Pro 2000 and they seem to do a pretty good job.

Octave
The Digitech BSW does an amazingly fast tracking octaver if you're after a more digital synthetic sound.
+1 to that, I had one which tracked at least as well as my EBS, though it sounded ... different.
20. Like buses these things - nothing for ages and then two come along at once! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-Bass-Guitar-B...=item19bf40caed
21. Hurricane. Never seen one of these before. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PRECISION-BASS-HURRI...=item19bef46447 Anybody know anything about them?
22. Ah , I recognise that nicely figured top - this was PTP's old one http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=38300 which explains why it has string-through. Is it still for sale?
23. I think £275 is a little optimistic in the current climate. I'd say £250, and knock off another 25 quid if it doesn't have the original Yamaha fitted hard case.
