1. I have a BB800 from the same period (79 - 82) which is essentially the same bass with round position markers and a solid finish. I bought mine second hand in 1981 and it'll be the bass I keep when all the others have gone. The neck is slimmer than a P-neck and much less chunky, but not as slim as a Jazz. Let me know where you would like it measured and I'll get the vernier caliper out! These tend to go for about 10 - 20 % of the price of a Fender Precision of the same year, which is ridiculous given the quality of Japanese made Yamaha instruments. I'd say go for it, you won't regret it.
  2. Should be possible, you just need to find someone who will supply you with a non-latching switch.
  3.
Prompted by another thread, Im wondering who uses what A/B selector pedal I might get one, to save me pulling leads, but I just want a simple switch, that wont degrade the passive signal, but does not have to reply on a PP9, which the leading brands seem to require
I have a Banzai, which does take a PP9 or a pedal board power feed, but only uses it to light the LEDs and functions perfectly well without any power. Doesn't take up much space either, top quality bit of kit.
  4.
hahahaha ok no problem, i dont think you are trying to help. So dont let the door hit you where the good lord split you when you leave this thread matey. Unless you can contribute helpfully of course!
This kind of personal abuse is totally unjustified IMHO.
  5. So what would be a good synth for playing bass parts live? Someone mentioned a Microkorg XL . For those of us who probably couldn't justify a minimoog, what other choices are there? GAK seem to have a good deal on the Akai Miniak at the moment, any comments from the synth-playing fraternity?
  6. What's wrong with the tab on bassmasta? It seems reasonably accurate to me.
  7.
It's black. Maybe Paul S will buy it.
I would have bought it back, but 'er indoors said that it was verboten. Considering what I've got away with buying over the years I'll take that on the chin.
  8.
I live in North Devon and am an experienced teacher.
This is probably the understatement of the year. Snap him up!
  9.
"Elecric Twin-Arm Bass Guitar" ?? better than a one-armed banjo i suppose...
Weirdly enough, it's not unusual for banjo players, particularly of the bluegrass/old time sort, to describe a banjo neck as an 'arm'.
  10. Yes, me too. I've thought about running one in Ipswich : my son's school has a great setup very similar to the one that silverfoxnik used for the last SE Bass Bash but I don't know what it would cost. I can find out if you like: one advantage is that the head of music is a bass player and thoroughly nice chap too. Failing that, I have a slight preference for Cambridge over Narrdge - it takes about the same length of time to get there from here, but Naarrdge seems to take a lot longer!
  11.
Aria Pro II Fretless. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-II-RSB-Spec...ents_Guitars_CV
That used to belong to me. I've just sent the seller this: "I'm almost certain that this was my bass - I sold it to silverfoxnik on basschat. The instrument dates from 1984, I bought it in 1986. The shop it came from was Northern Sounds in Workington. Whatever that mark is, it isn't a burn from a soldering iron. I don't recall how it got there, it happened some time in the 20 years or so that I owned it but I don't remember how."

This is terrible news. My condolences to friends and family. Thanks to Rich for posting, hope you're OK.
  13.
A 40Kg combo, pickup only from North Yorkshire ... hardly surprising it went for so little.
40Kg my arse. I have one identical to this, except that it's in immaculate condition, and it weighs 53 Kg. Despite the fact that it's a guitar combo, it does sound extremely good with bass.
  14. Vox Wyman. It weighed a ton because of the thick chrome scratch plate, sounded like crap and was horrible to play. Wish I'd kept it - a couple of years ago, clean versions were selling around the grand mark. I think I got 15 quid for mine.
  15. Dunno, but an alternative is to attach it to yourself instead, using a harmonica holder.
  16.
Hi all, Spring cleaning turned this up - fully working with PSU. Behringer 802 Mixer - handy piece of kit! £15 collected from Stevenage, or can post at cost (£5 estimated) Cheers, James
You sir have a PM, or soon will!
  17.
Blimey! These spammers will even use innocent women's names to try and snag us!!! lol lol
Margaret Thatcher? Innocent??
  18. Thanks for posting the link. Wonderful bass playing and immaculate drumming. The whole thing stands and falls on the quality of the bassplaying for me - everything else seems unremarkable. I have to wonder who listens to stuff like this, apart from frustrated bassists and drummers, but hey! I'm about 35 minutes in, but I'm going to have to stop doing this and download it - does anyone know if 'Canned Heat' gets played?
  19. Yes, Cass and his ASAT rule. We're lucky enough to have Twisted in our set, which has a marvellous bassline.
  20. You might find a used EA VL110 - I have one and it's a fabulous little cab. Not light, but it is fairly compact (it also has a midrange driver and a tweeter). There's also Tecamp, http://www.tecamp.de/?id=95 though this is likely to be just as pricy. There's also the Barefaced Bass Midget, which is a 12, but is smaller than most 10s and is likely to outperform them too. And Mr. Sibs has a used Matamp 4x6 for sale which I'd really like to hear - will get down there one of these days! Materials for just 100 quid? Some of these small high performance cabs have drivers which cost more than that, and many of them have a horn or midrange driver and a crossover - decent crossovers aren't cheap.
  21.
You'd totally have been pointing at your own face in the mirror with both hands going 'Who's the best?', like you have been since you won that competition. Apparently the Gold Lion loaded ones were 70w, would be nice if it had those in it. Since it says 'serviced', I'd guess they have been snaffled.
That's right, they were, but the chances of a 30+ year old power valve still being in good condition seem to be pretty slim. My Pro2000 had the original Genelec KT77s in but they were totally microphonic. 2 of the JJ KT77s will give you 50W. Confusingly, there is a 'Golden Lion KT77' on the market, but I think this is a straight copy of the KT77 rather than the KT77 Golden Lion - the Genelec Golden Lions had 20% more output than a Genelec KT77. I think.
  22. Sold a wall hanger to Julian and hopefully it is now holding up one of prized posessions! Really fast payment, good communications - it's all good.
  23.
I'm after some wall hangers for my basses. Had a look around, Hercules look ok but only have a 2 screw fitting and really want 4 if poss. Plus had a bad experience with a Hercules stand so will not get them on principal. Any recommendations??
I have a Hercules GSP39WB wall stand brand new and unused which is surplus to requirements, and it has 3 holes in the mounting plate - two above and one below. Hope Kev won't mind me linking to the original for sale thread which has a picture http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=91428 £10 shipped, which is what I paid for it. Should be fine on stud walling provided you can find the stud.
