1.
Hi Pete I have an EMG 2band active circuit you can have if you want it. Dave
Hi Dave, That's a very sporting offer, but I rather like the idea of having a mid-range control - the Dean has one and it's quite useful. Hope you're all well - it's about time we got together for a beer. Got any gigs coming up?
 2.
One thing to try first is to meter the pick-ups in case that is where the problem lies.
Thanks for that, good suggestion. Neck is 7.20 KOhms, bridge is 7.25 so I reckon that's close enough. I have 3 Bass Collections: the 460 is 1995, the SB310 is also 1995 and the fretless (SB321?) is 1991. All three have completely different electronics and none of them have the trim pot that Laurence has on his 330 . Only the 460 has the gain switch, same as Bassbunny's. The 310 has all the electronics on a single board, with 3 normal pots, rather than having it distributed over a number of circuits on each pot like the other two. Clearly it's all quality hand-made guitar circuitry, none of your production-line stuff here. Some of the soldering on the 460 isn't great either - it looks like I did it. They don't call me 'blobby nobby' for nothing you know!
 3.
Pete, my 405 was exactly the same, (and the Bass/Treble did sod all). Since putting the Artec 3 Band eq in it, the difference is stunning. Both pick-ups have the same volume and having controls that work is novelty.
Sounds like the way to go. Can you recommend a supplier, and what did you do about knobs for the concentric pots?
 4. +1 to going secondhand. RayAgainstTheMachine has an Eden Nemesis 250 in the For Sale forums which will be a much better gigging proposition than an of these.
 5. I've just picked my 460 up from Paul Glazebrook who as usual has done an excellent job of sorting the action, polishing the frets and generally setting it up nicely. I'm overjoyed - so playable and just a nice object to have around. The neck pickup makes a rich powerful dark sound with a decent amount of punch, but the signal from the bridge pickup seems weak in comparison. Not sure why this might be, any suggestions welcomed. Here's a shot inside the control cavity, the blend pot is top centre. Is this any help? Here are a couple of pictures, not very good quality but you get the general idea. Mods, if you're reading this please can we have this thread re-stickied? Besides being as Jack said one of the major sources of information on the net for SGC Nanyo basses, it attracts a steady stream of new recruits to the site and has more than 14,500 viewings!
 6.
On balance, I would prefer to be doing something to help and I'm willing to take the risk that my contribution will not be the deciding factor.
I salute you, and I will make a contribution in the morning when I am compos mentis enough to grapple with financial systems. I'm astounded that the F&CO cannot sort this out. What do we pay taxes for? This boy died a hero, trying to save a life. If he'd been wearing a uniform , this much at least would have been assured. Bringing him back is not something that people can do - this is something that governments and news media can do. Write to your MP, write to the Evening Standard, people.
 7. I hope you manage to move this bass on quickly, because I'm finding it really hard to get used to seeing 'that' avatar out of context!
 8.
Can you get a stacked vol/tone pot so i can keep the piezo controls down to one pot?
These are readily available. I've never seen a Piezo setup with a tone control though. Of course, that doesn't mean they don't exist!
 9. This is truly appalling. There's an article about it in the Standard tonight, complete with a nice picture of Tim in his Basschat T Shirt. My condolences to his family and friends, and to you and your daughter, Jack.
 10.
Put the new Pre-Amp in today and changed the Jack as well, (that was a bit iffy as well).
Some of them can be iffy, those Jacks I've got to change the blend pot on my SB310 so I'll have a look then. I've just bought an SB460, picking it up on Wednesday so I'll get the camera out!
 11. That's a lovely bass. Never seen one that colour before.
 12.
The other bonus is a beautiful Brass Nut. Not sure if that is normal.
I think so, on the 325 series and up. My fretless has one, my 310 doesn't. Of course, I refuse to believe that your bass exists without PICTURES!!!!
 13.
Where can said TC 2x10's be purchased?
Darren at Bass Merchant has 'em, and uses them in his own rig.
 14.
Ok, so a friend of mine has one ear that doesn't hear as well as the other one, and even that one isn't as good as it should be, and she finds that when listening to music through her computer via headphones, she can't get enough volume as she'd like. Is there something out there that would plug in-line between the headphones and the computer that could boost the volume? If not, is there anyone here that could build me a little box that would do this? Ideally it would just have one knob for volume, an input and an output jack. Cheers James
Boostaroo! http://www.pjbox.co.uk/store/cart.php?m=pr...etail&p=447 I have a battery powered version and it's great, but the above version is powered off USB.
 15.
Ah, quite a list then! I'm sure I asked the same question on here once and got a "no-one of any worth" type response!
There's EBS too. None of them are budget jobs though. My Tecamp combo makes a very slight hiss, I wouldn't describe it as a whistle though and I didn't notice it at first until someone kicked off a thread on the forum. Seems to be a pre-amp thing, I'm not sure that having the distributor replace the power supply is going to achieve the desired effect. Gotta be worth trying another unit, surely?
 16. What about a used EA CXL112? I'm using a VL110 with my Puma 350 10" combo and it fills out the lower end really nicely despite being a full-range cab. Or, at the risk of being flamed to death a Barefaced Compact.
 17.
Does anyone make 1x10s?
Tecamp, Epifani, Euphonic Audio.
 18. You should be OK - just hope that you don't have to go through any revolving doors on the way!
 19.
I'm looking to record a new album this year but I'm struggling to find a decent studio that isn't geared more towards Emo / Indie acts. I want a studio engineer that isn't phased by double bass, banjo or mandolin & ideally with an understanding of Americana / Folk / Country music. We're based mainly across Berkshire but with a drummer in Dorset so our catchment area would be there but with West London being a consideration if it was a good studio. Also South Oxfordshire or North Hants are certainly areas we'd consider. Anyone? Google isn't giving much away
I was thinking that Bellowhead probably present the greatest ever challenge to a studio engineer, although they don't have a double bass they do have virtually every other awkward acoustic instrument known to man so anyone who can record them should be a contender. This page lists the studios/engineers they've used: http://www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/~zier...bellowhead.html
 20.
Dancing in the moonlight for me!
+1 for me too, with The Rocker a close second. Don't have any guinness, but I do have a bottle of St Peter's awesome Cream Stout left over from the Xmas beer stash, which seems entirely appropriate. RIP Phil.
 21.
Can it model alternative tunings? Could it be fooled into thinking it had a low B even though it was only a low E? Dose that make sense?
No, with the bass you get what you get - there's no pitch shifting software like there is for the guitars.
 22.
Ebonol & phenolic are both non-porous plastics, so anything that doesn't actually polish the surface of the material will just sit there as a coating - and come off on your hands & strings.
Another good reason not to use WD40 if you ask me. It's essentially a solution containing a solvent, so all the things it does manage to remove will dissolve straight through your skin and into you. I can't understand why anyone uses this on musical instruments, it's horrible stuff. If I have to use it on a car I make sure that I've got protective gloves and barrier cream on my hands for the same reason.
 23.
According to Ebay "The instrument was custom built for 70s Glam Rock Band Shawoddy woddy"
Glam Rock Band? I think not!
 24.
and also the quality factor of the Mexican built guitars too
I've just been playing a MIM Roadworn '60s Jazz, and while I'm not a great fan of this whole pre-aged thing, I have to say that this played very nicely (wonderful neck), was well put together and sounded marvellous through a T&C 450 rig.
 25. My G&L 2500 has a 3-way selector switch - neck, both or bridge. No way to blend sounds. Still manages to nail most of the sounds you'd want to make with a bass.
