1. Hi, I'm gigging with the covers band Crossover in The Milestone, Ipswich tomorrow night. Be great to see anyone who fancies coming along. This could be the last-ever gig in the milestone if I've read the current situation right- not something you want to have on your cv
 2.
I'm looking for a little 125 to buzz around on till I can get my shizzle together to do my Big Bike test, so if any of you wunderful motorbikerists have a good running (tho bashed up is NOT a problem...I'm expecting to drop it a few times ) 125 road/learner legal bike you'd like to get shot of for a brilliant bass +cash either way, gimme a shout! I'm not after anything that'll depreciate, so cheap&cheerful will make me VERY cheerful!
That's too bad. All I have to offer is a Ducati 600SL Pantah which is taking up space in the garage.
 3.
£245 for the Yammy I lost interest at £73.
Crikey. Norman's Antoria Les Paul went for £215 which I thought was a lot.
 4. Collection of Yamaha bits - I don't think this is an SBV500 re-issue but I sold mine a long time ago and can't quite remember what it looked like. 5. Interesting looking Maya, plus a nice bonus of a half-reasonable HH combo! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HH-100w-Bass-Amplife...=item33577ebd34
 6.
If you take a line out from the Trace then you can run it into the Marshall no problem. It's from the ext. cabinet output that you'll have trouble.
And if you took a line output from a 130W amp and ran it into a 15W amp, I'd be amazed if it made enough difference in volume to compensate for how stupid it would look. This has to be a wind-up, surely?
 7.
Its not just about the dots. Its also about understanding the genre you are playing in. A classical player who can read anything cannot just go into a jazz or a rock session and make it happen without some comprehension of the medium they are engaging with. I had a BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra first bassist dep for me in a big band once (his call) but, despite reading every note 'correctly' he didn't come even close to swinging. If you ever read a classical score along with the music being played, you will quickly realise that the dots are only a part of the story. You have to know the genre.
Absolutely. Anyone who thinks that you read the dots, and just the dots, doesn't get it, never will. And this is also true for reading classical music scores.
 8.
i'd quite like to see pics of that cherryburst one, mainly because i've never seen one before!
Ah, so that's what it's called!
 9.
Funnilly enough this review references Chris Wood as a composer http://is.gd/4Ww5F but I think that's Chris Wood the folkie, not Chris Wood the bass player ( http://www.last.fm/music/Chris+Wood/+wiki )
Not sure about that, but Chris Wood the folkie is also a pretty good bass player - he was in the Oyster Ceilidh Band for a while before he really got into the fiddle.
 10.
For the record I do about 5 times a day.
Ha ha. Ironic isn't it that if it hadn't been for punk rock, Mr Sumner would still be an unemployed Geography teacher.
 11.
Fetch your ring finger into play.
Another thing worth trying is to miss out the middle finger and alternate the first finger and ring finger. I can't play any faster this way but the timing between the notes is more consistent. A great exercise I've found is the Flea version of the 'I Feel Love' bassline. I think there's a video of it on bassplayer.tv somewhere.
 12.
I only came on here to post this Antoria Les Paul in case anyone in Essex fancies it.
Nice work Norman! I would have given almost anything for one like this in 1976. My guitarist friend had the 6-string version. I'm very tempted.
 13. It depends what the finish of the bass that you're trying to polish is. All the above recommendations assume that you're trying to polish a cellulose finish - actually there's no need to spend serious money on megiuars because t-cut is just as good - my hand-made cellulose finish bouzouki was cleaned up with t-cut and it looks just fine, 30 years later. I don't think it's gonna work on a Warwick!
 14.
My 5 string plans have changed until I get a job in London. Plus I want to test a few other brands. We all talk about comfortable weight, but what weight is acceptable for a 5 string without giving back ache? All my 4 s are a very nice lowish weight.
The lightest 5er I've played recently was Happy Jack's Bass Collection SB325. I'm still kinda regretting I didn't buy that bass.
 15.
Below are 3 different basses, all offered on Ebay. I'm not highlighting Ebay sales I am just asking that if you had the choice, which one would you go for and why. Its just an experiment that I need to do. I shall reveal all later.
None of the above. I'd be looking for a Japanese not-for-export model. If I didn't already have one, that is.
 16. Actually this is a lot less than half the price of a new one - according to the review in last months Bass Guitard Magazine the list price is now £899, and who am I to disagree. I'm gradually learning to love mine, and it doesn't look as nice as this one.
 17. FWIW I went to see the Answer a few months ago at Dingwalls, and despite not being a huge fan of that Zep sound I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the gig - they're a really good band with some strong songs and great stage presence. Someone should snap these up.
 18.
Next to Me? - well you wouldn't have wanted him to be on top, would you girls?
ROTFL. If I could put this in the 'quotes' thread, I would. Don't ever change!
 19. I thought Jay Z sucked watermelons through elephants and the only redeeming feature of his entire set was the backing singer in the first song, wow was she hot!! Too bad Dizzee Rascal hired Guthrie Gowan. I enjoyed Stornoway, they have a singer who can actually sing on key unlike most indie bands and they are very young, they will improve. Don't get Norma Jones though, and I dont' know what her bassist was trying to prove. Fortunately I missed Sting - growing the beard is relatively easy but matching Martyn's awesome talent is going to present a considerable challenge. As for Foos, what can you say. Consumate ease, particularly Times Like These. I may be guilty of forgetting what they're capable of, though I too would have preferred to see fewer session musicians. I thought they were a class above everything else I've seen in this series with the exception of Gladys Knight.
 20.
When mine arrived it was set to 12 both on pre and master. At this level the hiss is very noticeable, however I could not play at anything like that volume in my house!
I have to admit at this point to buying one of the 110s, which arrived today and I've only had a very brief play with it. I did manage to play it at 12 on pre and master in my house without destroying any windows but it was a close run thing. I could hear a very slight hiss (as in , I had to lay on the floor and put my ear on the grill) much to the amusement of my nearest and dearest, but I wouldn't describe it as 'very noticeable'. Given that my lugs are probably shot to bits through years of abuse, I intend to strap it to my carrier and cycle round to Dave C. at some point to see what he thinks! I can understand why this gear has such a high RRP. It's everything I hoped it would be - with my G&L2500 I can get any tone I want, the build quality is excellent and it's clearly capable of serious volume. I'd like to try it with a Barefaced Midget at some point, but in the meantime I think my VL110 will work well as an extension cabinet.
 21. You might be able to waltz to them, but these two :
The Beatles - Norwegian Wood Leo Sayer - When I Need You
Are definitely 6/8 , even if the former was incorrectly published as a 3/4 !
 22. That's a lovely bass. I can say that secure in the knowledge that I have one that appears to be identical, except that mine has frets. However, mine also has a jazz-width neck and a fairly solid 'C' profile. What's the width of the nut?
 23.
As promised: Ashdown 810 to the left (with an Ampeg head on top), original Vox AC30 to the right, sitting in the middle - my shrunken rig.
Kewl. The Midget actually looks narrower than the fingerboard on the Roscoe Beck.
 24.
I'm hoping that some one can help me sort out the best way to ship my Wal to Belgium I have just read through the thread on couriers and now I'm even more worried about it. Is there a company out there that can pack, ship and insure it reliably or can anyone give some pointers on the best way to do things I was kind of hoping someone in the uk wanted it then I would'nt have to do this. such is life any help much appriciated john
I thought several people in the UK did want it! Ask the purchaser to get on a Eurostar and meet him in London. Safest all round. I once collected two underwater scooters from a bloke in Belgium and a trip across on the ferry turned out to be the best way. +1 for being careful with choice of courier if you do decide to post it. Many have insurance limits for musical instruments in the small print - there's a thread about this somewhere.
