However browsing around, 2x12 isn't anywhere near as common as 2x10 ..... SO ... the next question is any recommendations what I should be looking at. I want around 300w. If it is going to be a challenge I would be OK with a separate amp into a 2x12 cab.
Most 12" Neo drivers seem to be 300W 8Ohms, which means that most Neo 2x12 cabs are 600W 4 Ohm. There are exceptions but I cant name one at the moment. I have an EBS which I bought second-hand on this forum. I think a 2x12 will give a better sound than a pair of 1x12s - the drivers seem to work better in a bigger box. The other factor in all of this is your budget, of course!
Can anyone point me in the direction of the smallest 8ohm, 300w cab you can think of. Consider that this is regardless of music style and volume as its just for bedroom playing along with my LMII. Any ideas?
Tecamp 1x10 or EA VL110 are close enough at 250 W. For less than the price of either one of those Roland Combos with 4x5" drivers. Why on earth do you need a 300W cab for bedroom playing? 100W is plenty, just back the gain off!

"Can I have a go on your bass, mate?"
He plays a Bass Collection and i play a Ken Smith, hence the nervousness.
I've got 3 Bass Collections. One of them is the finest bass I've ever played. Straight swap for a Ken Smith? No way. -
I agree that location needs to be known but, as someone mentioned in a similar post a while ago, why not stick it in your profile too?...That way you know straight away where the person is based.
It seems reasonable - mine is. Trouble is that a lot of people just come here to sell stuff and don't give a sh*t about forum etiquette.
I will master that G&L though, damn it!
Whatever it is , it ain't the G&L. davec came to see my band once when I was playing my G&L, and he said " I don't know what you did but the bass really cut through", and what I did was bridge pickup, 'active with added treble boost' and hiked the mids a bit.
Where's Sting when you really need him.
Nobody knows. The situation has never, and will never, arisen. -
if your amp is rated at 1000w at 4ohms then you cant put two 4ohm cabs threw it if you do you will run the very serious risk of blowing your amp up. your choices are simple either change your cabs/speakers for two 8ohms cabs rated at anything up to 500w per cab personally i would have them at about 350-400 for the sake of head room or run the single cab and keep the volume down far enough that the cab isnt complaining about it.
I don't think this is quite right. According to the manual, the LGs are 2 x 500 Watt into 4 Ohms, not 1000W into a single 4 Ohm load. What the OP probably needs is either a pair of 500W-ish 4 Ohm cabs, or two 350W-ish 8 ohm cabs. I suspect you wouldn't really notice the difference in overall volume between running each side at 4 or 8 ohm. When I had a technical question about a piece of Ashdown gear, I emailed the support line and got an answer back the same day. I suggest that rather than guess, or spend a load of money on something you don't need, it might be worth doing the same.

How Can You Justify Spending £5,350 on a New Bass??
pete.young replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Even then is it worth spending 5k on an instrument?
It's all relative. Check out the prices of professional-quality double basses. You don't get much for less than £20 grand. A professional quality Tuba will set you back 5k. -
I reckon you've learnt a little about IP adresses now ,, STUPID BOY !!!
It seems to have worked this time, but in general you can't place too much reliance on apparent source IP addresses - there are plenty of anonymising sites which will all show the same source IP, and there are massive proxy systems like messagelabs which ditto.
As a lifelong biker I really would NOT recommend bungeeing a Midget to the back of a bike! Too big, too bulky, too heavy. Strapped to the pillion seat and you won't be able to get off & on the bike. Use a rack and the bike will be so tail-heavy that the handling will be seriously sh*t.
Come on Jack, where's your sense of adventure? I used to work with a guy who used to cart all his diving equipment, excluding cylinder but including everything else including weights on the back of a Triumph Tiger by using a large plastic box bungeed to the seat and a big backpack. I've transported my Tecamp Puma 110 combo on the carrier of my folding bicycle once or twice, although admittedly not for very long distances. I think you could bungee one of these onto a reasonable carrier and it might fit into a big top box or pannier.
It's back again! I've seen this listed a few times, but not been tempted! Not sure what a SB100 is but given it also seems to have a CE marking I guess this is one of the more recent efforts from China? Not surprised that the last bidder bailed out. £165 should get you a real Japanese SGC Nanyo in a more acceptable colour. -
If you can see any further than a Jazz shape, it might be worth talking to Paul Rose (prosebass) about some of his recent designs - I think there are some threads in the affiliates forum.

G&L 2500 Tribute? Does a very convincing Stingray impression and you should be able to pick one up for £350 or less on this forum.
Hi Pete I have an EMG 2band active circuit you can have if you want it. Dave
Hi Dave, That's a very sporting offer, but I rather like the idea of having a mid-range control - the Dean has one and it's quite useful. Hope you're all well - it's about time we got together for a beer. Got any gigs coming up? -
One thing to try first is to meter the pick-ups in case that is where the problem lies.
Thanks for that, good suggestion. Neck is 7.20 KOhms, bridge is 7.25 so I reckon that's close enough. I have 3 Bass Collections: the 460 is 1995, the SB310 is also 1995 and the fretless (SB321?) is 1991. All three have completely different electronics and none of them have the trim pot that Laurence has on his 330 . Only the 460 has the gain switch, same as Bassbunny's. The 310 has all the electronics on a single board, with 3 normal pots, rather than having it distributed over a number of circuits on each pot like the other two. Clearly it's all quality hand-made guitar circuitry, none of your production-line stuff here. Some of the soldering on the 460 isn't great either - it looks like I did it. They don't call me 'blobby nobby' for nothing you know! -
Pete, my 405 was exactly the same, (and the Bass/Treble did sod all). Since putting the Artec 3 Band eq in it, the difference is stunning. Both pick-ups have the same volume and having controls that work is novelty.
Sounds like the way to go. Can you recommend a supplier, and what did you do about knobs for the concentric pots? -
+1 to going secondhand. RayAgainstTheMachine has an Eden Nemesis 250 in the For Sale forums which will be a much better gigging proposition than an of these.

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
pete.young replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
I've just picked my 460 up from Paul Glazebrook who as usual has done an excellent job of sorting the action, polishing the frets and generally setting it up nicely. I'm overjoyed - so playable and just a nice object to have around. The neck pickup makes a rich powerful dark sound with a decent amount of punch, but the signal from the bridge pickup seems weak in comparison. Not sure why this might be, any suggestions welcomed. Here's a shot inside the control cavity, the blend pot is top centre. Is this any help? Here are a couple of pictures, not very good quality but you get the general idea. Mods, if you're reading this please can we have this thread re-stickied? Besides being as Jack said one of the major sources of information on the net for SGC Nanyo basses, it attracts a steady stream of new recruits to the site and has more than 14,500 viewings! -
On balance, I would prefer to be doing something to help and I'm willing to take the risk that my contribution will not be the deciding factor.
I salute you, and I will make a contribution in the morning when I am compos mentis enough to grapple with financial systems. I'm astounded that the F&CO cannot sort this out. What do we pay taxes for? This boy died a hero, trying to save a life. If he'd been wearing a uniform , this much at least would have been assured. Bringing him back is not something that people can do - this is something that governments and news media can do. Write to your MP, write to the Evening Standard, people.
