2. I've had good cheap strings from Webstrings - www.webstrings.com . I've got some cheap Hartke's to try, but my wild extravagance in putting a set of DRs on seems to have been justified - 6 months now and still pretty bright sounding. I'm not a noted string-killer though since my hands don't sweat much. Pete
 3.
With regard to valve amps Matamp is the way forward although I would love to own one of the original Hiwatts but then we are back to Matamp again
Monz, would you like to expand on this? As far as I'm aware, there was a connection between Orange and Matamp, but none between Matamp and Dave Reeves or Harry Joyce. Dave Reeves worked for Sound City before he went to Hiwatt. I'm talking about the vintage stuff here, not the 'Hiwatt' made for Music Ground by Matamp in the early part of this decade. To the OP - you might also want to consider the Celestion 12s, they have a range of neo and non-neo.
 4.
Think I'll do the 'withdrawn due to lack of interest' thing here! All things considered I think the best bet is to keep it as a back-up fretted whilst also trying to source a fretless neck that will fit. Might even get some stacked VT pots put in to see how that goes Thanks for the comments and info above Chris
Hi Chris, You could also think about making Happy Jack an offer for his Ibby fretless precision 2366. 5. Hi, I'm gigging with the covers band Crossover on Sat 24th October at the Cross Keys, Henley if anyone's at a loose end. Best, Pete
 6.
Yes to one set please! Paypal okay?
Yes to the other set. Please PM and we can sort out the details.
 7. I have a Giz skinz mixer case and while the main features are still good the zips on the pockets have gone bally busto in very short order and with virtually no use. I still rate Ritter, but hey.
 8.
That is an interesting idea, but I really like the idea of just getting an ebony board on. They do come fretless from the factory, and sound absolutely wonderful. I mean, I could always save and buy one, but Ernie Ball only offer Ebony boards on basses with the 'Stealth' finish. I'll think it through with all the options and come to a decision. Little Glemham is about a mile away from me so I'll check those guys out! Thanks
Just about to PM you Colin's details - I doubt he'd thank me for posting 'em on the net.
 9.
......but dont remember 18`s being mentioned much (i have the memory of a goldfish though )
Yeah, speaker technology has moved on a bit since the '80s and the response is a bit slow.
 10.
Yeah I've had a fretless Ray before, unlined, and it was great - absolutely loved it. My intonation was actually pretty good! If I had the fretboard replaced, I would have lines on the side of the neck but not on the fingerboard I reckon. Thanks for the reply man, can you recommend any good luthiers? I have no knowledge of this area at all!
If by 'this area' you mean Suffolk, Colin Fulton in Little Glemham is very very good and Andrew Guyton is unbelievably good, though whether he'd be interested in this job I don't know. I'm not sure it's such a great idea though. I think a fretless bongo will have a resale value of much less than a fretted one - are they available fretless from the factory? BTW nice to see the original Beedster avatar restored to it's rightful position!
 11.
She's not on Evilbay anymore.....! Lovely instrument, I'm torn between around 7 lovers right now!
Well done. I'm so glad that this lovely bass has gone to a good home.
 12.
The Zombies (Rod Argent & Colin Blunstone) are playing in the Globe in Roath that evening. It's only a short bus ride from the centre.
It's a possibility! Thanks for the heads-up. Pete
 13.
Its a cracking Sceme.
A word of warning - the people who administer it are seriously useless. I bought a piano from PMT. Set up scheme forms, paid deposit on credit card. No problem. 3 months later, a letter - we've presented the direct debit mandate, and it was bounced. Please phone this number. Number turns out to be wrong: a rightly aggrieved lass in Birmingham who couldn't understand why she was so popular. One week later, another letter - we're sending in the bailiffs to recover the amount! 'Er indoors rings, asks for the total amount owed, pays it off. We don't need the hassle. One week later, another letter - we've presented the direct debit mandate, and it was bounced. Please phone this number ... Now they won't talk to 'er indoors without my permission. They're going to regret that. First law of data security - anyone who uses the Data Protection Act as a cover for not doing what they should do is lying to you. Pete
 14.
Up for sale, my trusty Mark Bass LMII, (or swop for a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0).
Hi Jonny, Seriously, you have a/b' d your LMII with a Shuttle? As an LM II owner, I'd have to say I was seriously underwhelmed by the Shuttle I tried last weekend. Pete
 15. Here we go - a vintage doing what it's supposed to do - supporting a classic valve amp. Ooops. Let's try that again! Thanks once again to Merton for the use of his Vintage. I think the black cloth might be a better match. Tough decision!
 16.
Now you've got me looking at Ashdown & I think I'm in love with the new Ashdown five fifteen mini bass stack! Of course it's £50 over budget but WoW. What do the panel think?
I hope it's a lot better than the Perfect 10 Mini-rig, at that price. If you had 200 quid to spend you'd be far far far better off with a Roland Cube.
 17. Just wondered if anyone is gigging in Cardiff on Thursday night this week (15th October). I'm staying over for work and likely to be at a loose end.
 18. What a brilliant day - kudos to silverfoxnik, hamster, merton, jonnylager and obbm (did I miss anyone, sorry) for setting it up, Mrs Hamster for the brews, all the people brave enough to give workshops and demos and a special thank you to Hartke for being so generous. Excellent choice of venue too. It was good to meet some old friends and put some names to new faces. Highlights for me were having a nice chat on the way down and back with Dave C, MacDaddy's incredible Shuker, all the workshops, Bassace's number plate and 51m0n's rant about pedal compressors! And of course winning the raffle, which was a real surprise because I never win anything! Thanks to Merton (again) for letting me try my Burman head with his Vintage. Some truly thunderous low B's from where I was standing (10 feet in front of the cab!) There will be a pic in the pics thread when I get around to finding my phone cable. Excellent job all round - can't wait for the next one.
 19.
Hi Pete That'd be great; thought the L2500s were active though? Nik
Hi Nik, Active/passive at the flick of a switch. Gotta love 'em! Pete
 20. Nic, Do you still want a passive 5 - I could bring my G&L2500. Or I might just bring my BB800, to make you realise what a mistake you made :-) Best, Pete
 21.
Is anyone coming from the east end of London who has the space/inclination to transport a Barefaced Vintage? Alex
Possibly. Whereabouts in East London? I'm coming down the A12 so a detour isn't out of the question. I though Merton was going to bring a Vintage - I'm very interested in trying one with my Burman.
 22.
I would have thought that the guitarist practising the whole song, particularly the transitions to and from the solo, would be more useful than just doing the solo in isolation.
+1 for that. Transitions, starts, finishes, they're the three places where things can fall apart.
