Way Huge Swollen Pickle. Tee hee.

Keep dealing with Lean Business, they're good guys. Ditch Norton. It's a heap of sh*t. Lean Business are just down the road from me. If you want someone to call in let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Euphonic Audio heads are very hi-fi and don't seem to colour the sound.

Comfort Strapp with Dunlop Straplocks
pete.young replied to TheBlueFalcon's topic in Accessories and Misc
What you can do, at least with Schallers and I see no reason Dunlop won't work too, is to fit the lock to the inner hole, put the outer hole over the string 1st and then place the straplock on. That way it all fits together neatly and if the lock fails there's a chance the outer hole will prevent a dive to the floor.
+1 -

Why is the search function on this website so utterly rubbish ?
pete.young replied to far0n's topic in Site News
Use google to search the site - put site:basschat.co.uk into the search string. -
As I've turned 40 that will obviously have to be a blues band as it's the law!
It is? Oh bollocks, outlaw again!
It appears to me that lately, 'Jam Nights' are becoming a place for acoustic guitar playing singers to get up and sing their 'original' songs, solo. Very little Jamming actually goes on.
Ah, I see. Folk clubs used to be like this in the 1970s, except that they had guest artists who could actually play and sing too! Mostly.

Finding the key of a song you are covering?
pete.young replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes they will not all fit. errrr,eg, Sultans of Swing is in F Major (or Rel minor D minor - same thing in essence) - Dm, C Bb F chords, but changes to Amajor at times for brief moments in the verses and first solo, with the inserting of the A Major chord . The keys F Maj / D min use A minor chord, so the key changes briefly every time the A maj chord is used. Gives it a different feel, and you have to change the scales in the solo from F major to Amajor to fit over the A major chord.
I don't agree with this. A major is the normal 5th Chord for D harmonic minor, so there is no key change to A major. -
Nice one Bilbo, this is a classic part that deserves to be out there. There is so much fabulous bass playing on that album. Thank you.

Perfectly valid piece of technique on upright bass. I've heard it called 're-inforcing'.
Any recommendations?
Take it to someone reputable. There are limits on what you can usefully conclude from an internet forum.
this is the criteria for good music...and i paraphrase mozart timing is critical...notes come next the speed is in the interpretation...as you have pointed out dynamics are essential in any classical work...elsewise its a series of complicated arpeggii and modulations finger style gives some control over dynamic and attack...hope you get it to go ok cheers geof
and if that doesn't work, tune in 5ths and capo at the 12th fret.
Perhaps they should have gone to Specsavers!
Sheer class! Ped, tell them they can make the arrangements to pick it up within 30 days otherwise you're claiming it !

For once, I was being 100% serious! You want inspiration? It's where you find it. It's a very personal thing. For me, in terms of elevating bass playing above the mundane, Colin Hodgkinson is 100% guaranteed, never mind that he could cheerfully tour for nowt these days on an OAP bus pass. The question is really why no-one has taken up the challenges that he posed 30 uh-oh years ago. Not that I could ever aspire to playing the way he does, but the thought that someone can keeps me going through moments of indecision. This recently appeared on youtube - I'm tempted to say it's Colin in his prime, but he's still right there. And if there's anyone out there who thinks you can't be a proper bass player if you use a pick, think again.
The fact that you think one person/band defined an entire genre is quite clearly ludicrous
Especially when it turns out that he got the wrong band.
If space wasn't an issue, I might think 2x12 instead of the 1x15, and have the 10's on top..
My EBS 2x12 is the same size as a 4x10 and weighs 22 Kg. If I could run down to 2 Ohms, I'd forget 10s and 15s and buy another one. That said, I can't imagine needing much more volume than I can get with an LMII and a single 2x12 . I think the original poster could do a lot worse than hop on a cheap flight to London on 10th October and visit the SE Bass Bass - he'd actually get to see and hear a huge selection of gear, much wider than any one dealer could ever provide. He might even find some floor space if he asks someone nicely.

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
pete.young replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice SB325 just went through the bay, if you like the colour. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SGC-Nanyo-Bass-Colle...utorefreshZtrue This shot up from £130 in the last 10 minutes - I think someone still got a nice axe for a good price. Anyone we know? -
Do you gig these CrazyKiwi?
I gig mine occasionally, with an EBS 2x12 just like Kiwi's. It's plenty loud enough for the kind of venues we play, although I'd like to try it with one of Alex's Vintage cabs at some point. The Pro 2000 guitar combo was gigged last year, and easily matched a Mesa Half Stack, until we had to carry it away! 53 Kg.
but i'd like some songs that are usually played on a 5 string, or a 4 string tuned to BEAD. Z x
Misery Business by Paramore goes well on a 5. It's originally in something bizarre like dropped C# on a 4 string

Al is talking bollocks. It's perfectly possible to run a Line 6 DL4 and a bunch of 9V pedals using a Diago Power station and the green Diago adaptor. We have one and it works fine. Read the FAQ on the Diago site. The Line 6 power supply is AC, but the pedal is DC - input is transformed to DC by a bridge rectifier circuit. The Diago adaptor bypassses this rectifier and puts DC directly into the pedal.
