We have a set of Carlsboro PM10 powered monitors, a master and slave setup rated laughably at 100W They have a tendency to blow the internal fuses, which is frequently caused by the output transistor melting. It's only the size of a well-chewed fingernail. Given the reliability problems, and given that Carlsboro have gone bust and the more esoteric spares are already getting hard to find, I'd recommend you find something else.

With EL34 the output will be 100 W. The build quality of these amps is second to none, on a par with the mil-spec Hiwatts that Dave Reeves made in the 1970s and early 80s. I've never seen one of these on Ebay before, so it will be very interesting to see what it goes for.

I have heard of people using the Simms Watts all-valve guitar and PA heads for bass, but I've not come across this model before. It all seems to be intact but i'd be put off by the solid state pre / valve power. A s hop down this way had a guitar head and matching 4x12 but I think it's moved on long ago.

This looks identical to the Fishman unit on my Dean B2. I posted something about the electronics in another thread, but basically the Dean preamp gives you a separate volume pot for the piezo to balance the sound with the mag pickups. The piezo on it's own sounds woody, if that makes sense. V8's description is pretty good. The upper octave sounds like the bass of a classical guitar to my jaded lugs. It also seems to add some punch to the sound when used with the mag pickups. I'll try and get some sound samples up once my recording engineer wakes up!

If so just use something like Nero (if you have it) or CDBurnerXP to make an audio CD - these will automatically convert the MP3 into audio file format.

Sometimes, sometimes not. Sometimes we need to adjust either up or down a few semitones to put it into the singers best vocal range.

+1 for Gareth Hughes suggestion. Many pro double bass players use a C extension to get those lower notes.
