I am detail oriented and focussed therefore sometimes I don't want a tangential debate, I want to ask a question and get a variety of perspectives on that specific subject matter.
It may come as a surprise to you, but this forum doesn't exist just to provide what you think you may need or want. You've made your point. The best thing you can do now is to sit back and watch the discussion develop. Picking out individual points in individual posts and arguing the toss with the moderators before they have formed their opinions may work in the technical diving world, but in this forum it is more likely to prejudice them against your opinion in my experience. The Wiki is a great idea, but despite the efforts of Bassferret history shows that most people can't be bothered with it. A shame, but there you go.

There's a scurrilous rumour going the rounds that the great Norm did indeed tune his bass up a semitone to play this. Anyone want to confirm? Personally I can't see it because it's as easy to play in Fm as it is in Em tuned up.

I can confirm that Phil and Michelle from the Milestone are going to take over the Railway. Last time I went past it it was still boarded up. I'll let you know when I find out. Dunno who is going into the Milestone but I hope we don't lose that as a music venue. The Black Horse is the one up by the nick - the last landlord apparently did a runner with the takings some time ago. I don't think it had a great reputation as a music pub, so some things probably won't change ;-)

There does seem to be rather a lot of us in Suffolk. Maybe we should get together for a natter or a gear swap. Bilbo, are you still doing that job for Gione?
Hi Pete, That sounds great. If you could ask a few questions regarding a bulk order that would be great, or send me his details and I can have a word... Cheers ped P.s just posted all T shirts first class. Bloke in the post office was a cool dude.
Hi Ped, I've sent you a PM with the details. Sorry for being slow, too much work to do :-( -

My son is running a DL4 with the Diago adaptor plus tuner, big muff, compressor and Fulltone overdrive off a Powerstation. No problem, just get the right connectors from Diago. Diago are a great company to deal with, customer service from James is second to none.

I had a Shine 6 string for a while. It was cheap and worked OK, but not particularly well made or nice to play. It got moved on fairly quickly. I wouldn't recommend them. If you're in Woking it might be worth popping in to Andertons in Guildford before you make the trip to Denmark St, or at least give them a ring and see what they've got.

I've had several short scale basses and I'm not really a fan, though i'd be happy to get my Futurama Coranado IV back. Did you look at the Tanglewood EF18 Mini-elf? It has something like a 20 inch scale length, sounds quite reasonable, doesn't have any stringing issues - normal 45s fit right on it and allow you to do massive Jerry Donahue style bends. I sold mine, beginning to wish I'd kept it but I don't get many gigs in phone boxes :-) If I was looking for a travel bass it would be at the top of my list.

So who's seeing the New Year in with their band?
pete.young replied to Jase's topic in General Discussion
Yup, private function in Ipswich. First time for years and years that I haven't been sitting on the sofa watching Jools, bored out of my skull! Pete -
Hey, think that was my Aria! Glad you like it, a great fretless!
Nope, it was definitely my Aria. Unless you sold it to Northern Sounds, Workington, in 1986 that is ;-) I'm getting my threads all mixed up, I posted this link in another thread on Yamaha BBs in the Bass Guitars section http://brochures.yokochou.com/index.html#YAMAHA_GTR

Found the link I was looking for. http://brochures.yokochou.com/index.html#YAMAHA_GTR There is a JB500 in the 1985 catalogue. Maybe worth asking on the Yamaha forum? http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/

The instrument you're looking at is almost certainly post 1981. If you're lucky, Bassassasin will pop up and post the yamaha guitars on line catalog link, I can't find it. I have a BB800 from c. 1979, similar to the one that Silverfoxnik sold, except that mine is tasteful black rather than dogshit brown ;-) It's an excellent bass, I'm only starting to understand how good it is now that I have bought one or two more instruments enabling me to do a direct comparison. Hi, Is there anyone who would be interested in doing a paid gig with a covers band on the afternoon of Friday 15th May, playing between 3 and 7 pm ? The gig is at Hintlesham Hall near Sudbury. Please get in touch via PM for more details. It might be handy if you could also make the odd rehearsal in the Ipswich area beforehand. Kind regards, Pete

Looks busy. Nice one. You'll be delighted to know that The Railway in Ipswich has changed hands ;-)
We play "Ain't Nobody" at the end of our first set. Its a superb bass line but I'm pretty certain from the sound and manner in which its constructed, that its a keyboard line?! I don't believe MIDI bass was very widely available at the time the track was recorded.
I think you're right, it sounds like a keyboard part. It's in our set too. I have tried a few synth pedals and can't get anywhere near the sound, I can't get the short decay for one thing. Midi isn't an option for me, my son very helpfully suggested I go out and buy a Mini Moog but he has an ulterior motive. Steve, what do you do to make this work? It's a cracking song. Really gets people on their feet.

What was the gear outcome of 2008 for you?

Just recieved yet another flyer from Russ Andrews - any profit they made on the one pair of earplugs I bought must have been wiped out by the never ending stream of emails and catalogues! Anyhoo, what about this - a 3m guitar cable for £120 ? I've bought quite reasonable guitars for less. http://www.russandrews.com/product.asp?loo...YBOVFOPNCJVWBOH can anyone beat that?
