Good choice. I have a Dean B2 that I got from Greyparrot and it's an excellent instrument, well made and sounds great too. Seriously under-rated basses.

I bought a BSY600 from Ray - super fast turnaround and incredible packaging involving at least 200 metres of sellotape! Excellent chap, recommended.

It was poor quality control by Gibson and Fender n the 1980s that gave Paul Reed Smith an opportunity. You'd think they'd learn the lesson. Regarding the Chinese makers, I was very favourably impressed by a Jay Turser SG Special that I looked at 3 or 4 years ago. £200, at least as good as the real thing and much much better than the Epiphone copy that cost twice as much.

Don't forget that by buying second hand you can get much better quality for the same price as new kit. As an example, there's a David Eden Metro combo in the Amps and Effects For Sale section for £450, which is so much better than anything Ashdown make it just isn't funny! Pete

Backdoor Too, by the Colin Hodgkinson group. At the gig they did last Thursday in London. Unbelieveable. I've been trying to get to a gig by this man since 1975 and finally succeeded. Fantastic evening, the band live is even better than the CD

We have a Presonus Firepod, which works brilliantly with Macbook and Logic. Haven't tried it on my XP laptop, should probably give it a go.

Given that you recently expressed concerns about being able to react to the need for a speedy upgrade to combat the recent spamming attacks, how much more difficult is it going to be if you have much more bespoke software in the platform? I think the WIKI could be better integrated but I have no interest in any of the other improvements proposed. I'm neutral about the adverts because I block them all anyway. I think there are plenty of ways for businesses to get their stuff on the web already and I'm not in favour of a subscription service.

Harmonics! Find the harmonic halfway along the string - what would be the 12th fret. Is it on the line, or in the space? Likewise the one where the 7th and 5th frets would be. Those bendy strings might have something to do with it too.

I have a EA VL110 - 1x 10", 1x5" mid-range, 1 piezo tweeter. Damn good small cab, though a bit on the heavy side. CX112 is supposed to be a much better cab, so it must be something really special.

I have a Dean B2 that I'm trying to get to grips with - along with the JJ pickups and the active EQ and the Piezo bridge, there are a huge range of tones and I'm still trying to get my head round it. But it does make some nice noises, and the Piezo is very usable on it's own without the magnetic pickups . In the top octave, it sounds almost like an acoustic guitar.

Contrast this with the reception we got at Anderton's Music in Guildford the other day. "Good afternoon, how can I help you, what are you interested in?"
