He knows he'll get s*d all for the bass so he's trying to cream it back in charges, unfortunately it appears to have backfired
He is apparently happy with cash on collection. This might turn out to be a cheap deal for someone near Slough. How much is a used streamer worth, and WTF is 'solid carolina' when it's at home?
Don't mean to be ignorant chaps ...but why don't you use a hard case, any particular reason? Just wondering why you opt for a gig bag rather than the more protective hard case.
In no particular order, it can be carried like a rucksack where a hard case can't, it will fit in the boot of the car when a hard case won't unless I put the back seats down, and if it goes inside it won't destroy the interior.
Anyone got the gig bag to die for?
You're in Felixstowe, so pop round to Bath Rd and have a word with Mark Stuart, www.guitartutor.co.uk. He usually has one or two Tribal Planet gig bags in stock, that's where I got mine from. Mark is my son's guitar teacher , a good player and a really pleasant bloke.

Might fit Markbass, but it's just too small to squeeze an iAmp 350 into. I have one of these cases. I took off the hinges, replaced them with some lift-off ones and turned it upside-down. My pedal board (a grand name for some lengths of 1x2 chopped up and screwed together) lives in it. Despite the tough looks, the construction is quite flimsy. Under that thin sheet of tinfoil is a thin piece of cardboard and not much else. I had to put some aluminium packers under the new hinges to stop them pulling through. OK for bits, pieces cables, etc but I don't think I'd trust an expensive amp to it.

I wondered about the Deep Impact. I also wondered about the RTK factor (Roadies Twiddling Knobs) ! So what I should probably have asked is, how can I get something that would sound a little bit like this without spending an arm and a leg?

I like the neoprene Custom Strapp . If you're into personalisation, the guys behind this enterprise http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Custom-made-embroide...1QQcmdZViewItem are good friends of mine, and I can vouch for them and the very high quality work they do.
Heard a track in the car on the way home yesterday on Radio 2 called 'Northern Lights' by a band called Renaissance. Blew me away, (to my ears) sounds something like Hooky (on a good day) playing with Peter, Paul & Mary(?!)
Cor, that takes me back. I've seen them play live in Salford Uni, in about 1977. I've got one of those flat round black things they used to call a record somewhere. As far as I recall, Mr. Camp played a Rickenbacker. Singer was a lass called Annie Haslam from Bolton. It's all flooding back.

Does anyone know what bass effects Chris Wolstenholme uses on the 3rd verse of City Of Delusion? I'm guessing some kind of envelope filter plus expression pedal/wah, but I haven't really got any idea.
IMHO you'll be lucky to get more than £50 for it. As MB1 stated, they were only £99 new.
Sound Control have sold their stock. The cheapest price I can find for a new one is Rockin Rooster at £157, which is what they originally retailed for. Last one I saw on the bay went for £100. You never know - it just depends on whether somebody wants one or not. BTW it's called the Ashdown Perfect Ten Mini-Rig.
Forget the name, but the basses that were around in the 60's and are a tear drop shape, have an exceedingly slim neck.
Vox. I had one of these (a Vox Wyman) and it was pretty horrible, short scale and sounded dreadful. Hofner Violin bass has a pretty slender neck too, and there are loads of reasonable copies of this around - I saw a very nicely turned out Jay Turser in a local music shop for less than 200 quid. I have a Precision with a Jazz neck on it, which is one option - you can probably find a Jazz neck and it fitted to your existing bass if you're happy with the sound. Some of the Japanese Arias from the early 1980s had very slim necks too. My RSB special is like this, though it's not quite as slim as a jazz. Technique helps. I've got small hands too, and I find it's much easier to put my thumb on the back of the neck than to try and rest the neck in the space between thumb and first finger.
I've just won the self titled "Back Door" CD on Ebay for two quid any other listening reccommendations?
Yes, get a copy of 'Askin The Way' from the cultural foundation web site. It was recorded in 2004 just before Ron Aspery died and contains some new material as well as some of the old standards. Despite the fact that it says 'stocked by the Bass Centre' on the site, it isn't. In fact the last time I went in there, the staff hadn't heard of Back Door or Colin Hodgkinson.
I'm bidding on this, it took my fancy. i'm not sure how much it will go for though.
Good luck with your bid - I'm not your competition, I just thought it was unusual enough to be of interest to the japcrappers here! -

Hi, I've just stumbled across something called Power Scaling, from London Power http://www.londonpower.com/pscaling.htm I was wondering if this might be the way to tame the awesome power of my Burman Pro 4000 guitar combo. I've been told that things like hotpads won't cope with the output of 100+ Watts, but this technology seems to offer the possibility. Anyone know anything about it?
... and I haven't got it to record sound using my onboard PC line in yet
There's a distro called <a href="http://ubuntustudio.org/">ubuntustudio</a> which includes a package called Ardour, which is supposedly pro-tools like. If you get around to trying it, or to installing Ardour, please post your experiences here since it's bound to be valuable. For an alternative perspective, I have a server here running OpenSolaris, booting off a mirrored zfs file system. Took about 10 minutes to set up the mirroring and it seems to be rock solid. Not tried recording anything on it though. Personally for quality construction I think you have to go a long way to beat the older Sun Microsystems kit. It's almost Burman-like! I do have one mac, an old MacPlus which has been converted into a fish tank. I'll try and find some pictures. We're about to acquire a macbook when leopard is released - I think macs really do have advantages for people who aren't into computers and just want to get stuff done.
so, if you can contribute or just want to take a look at my work... here I am and here it is the table I'm trying to fill:
Excellent stuff. I have a BB800 from c. 1979 and was very definitely made in Japan, it has Made In Japan stamped on the heel plate. There is a site somewhere with serial numbers for the various models, though the BB800 dates from the period where the serial numbering was a bit unreliable and uncoordinated.
Its the Jap ones im not sure about. I know very little about them.
The best Japanese Fenders are the not-for-export models. These have US pickups and better quality wood in the body (ash or alder instead of basswood). Guitar Emporium should have some of these but I don't think you will find them in the Bass Cellar/Centre/Gallery or anyone else in Denmark St.
Yeh good fishing out in the Orkneys
I know a few people in the Orkneys - next time something like this pops up please let me know before you get it pulled and I'll have someone go round and check it out.
Back in the days there was Marshall, Hiwatt, Orange and Sound sh*tty. Guess which was the least desirable?
Simms-Watts, then Selmer! (don't forget Charlie Watkins or Jennings/Vox either) There's a music shop near me with a Simms-Watts 120 guitar head for sale, £250 if anyone is interested. Someone else got it backwards - the late Dave Reeves who was Hiwatt built stuff for Sound City for a while as a sideline. And don't forget Gregg Burman - good as Hiwatt, and these two were streets ahead of everyone else.

"Do you know Wonderful Tonight?"
pete.young replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in General Discussion
"Hey lads, can you play Over The Hills and Far Away?" Snappy answers on a postcard ... The brilliant Biggles Wartime Band had a good story on this theme. A drunk comes up to the band between numbers: "Excuse me lads, can you play "Blossom Arsehole"? "Dunno, who's that by?" "Elvis Presley", says the drunk, "it were one of his biggest hits". Much scratching of heads amonst the band. "Can you sing the first couple of lines?" "Well Blossom Arsehole whats wrong with me. I'm itchin like a man on a fuzzy tree ..." -
If I was looking for a HD recorder that will record 8 simultaneous tracks and do all the usual stuff, it seems to me that it'll be hard to beat the Zoom HD 16. Is anybody using one, if so what do you think of it? If you bought something else instead, what did you get and why?
' Finally a possible bargain a 1983 RSB Special-I in my favourite colour, currently awaiting an opening bid above £25. I've already got one & they're little crackers - perfect beaters & a very slick neck. Pete.
Someone's gone for it. I have one identical to this, except that mine's a lined fretless (and in much better condition). No idea whether mine was a factory fretless or was done after, but I'd have to agree with what Bloodaxe said about the neck. This is a quality piece of kit for £25 quid in my slightly biased opinion! Edit: Make that £28 quid. Someone got a real bargain IMHO.

PAT Testing and Public Liability Insurance
pete.young replied to BassBunny's topic in General Discussion
A good and cheap option is to just buy new IEC leads (where apropriate) as you can buy them bulk fairly cheaply. Keep the receipt as I belive as long as it less than 12 months old it is expempt, I could be wrong but it makes sense!
Any piece of equipment doesn't need to be PAT tested until it is more than 12 months old. Instead of PAT stickers, you affix a 'this is new equipment' sticker with the date. Once it's necessary to PAT test something, if the IEC mains lead is tested at the same time as the piece of equipment it plugs into, the lead is given an ID and is certified for 5 years (the same as the piece of equipment that it relates to). An IEC lead by itself, not associated with a piece of equipment, is only in-test for a period of 12 months until it is done again. If you have something like a wall wart or a laptop-type DC power supply, it can't be PAT tested. The best the sparkies can do is append a visual inspection sticker.
