I make that 37 years, not 47.

I've had a Vintage V300 for many years and I can't fault it. Solid spruce top and mahogany back, sides and neck. It's gone up a bit since I bought mine but they can still be found for under 200 quid, for example PMT. https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/vintage-v300n-guitar-outfit-natural

Recommended software for mix/ medley/ mashup?

Audacity will do this on PC or Mac. -
Based on my experience with the LFSys Monza, if you're looking at a Super Compact you should also be looking at LFSys Monaco.

How did this pass me by? Hiwatt join the Class D club...

The people were long gone, 20 years ago. Actually make that 40 years ago when Biacrown closed and Music Ground got their hands on the brand. -
I'm aware that he needs to join the site. That forum has always been members-only. It's the 'Wanted' forum which has recently gone subscription only.

I've now done 4 or 5 gigs with my Monza, and I promised @stevie i'd post my thoughts so here goes. All gigs were with my Chicago-style blues band consisting of bass, drums, 2 electric guitars and harp/vocals. Moderately but not bonkers loud and all through backline, no PA reinforcement except for vocals, kickdrum and the harp combo is miked. On-stage volume is to loud to be comfortable, discussions about this on-going. All medium-sized pubs, no stage. My signal chain is double bass -> Krivo mag pickup -> Headway EDB1 preamp -> thumpinator -> BeCos Stella compressor -> EA iAmp doubler -> cab. The Monza has replaced an EBS Neo 2x12 with no apparent loss of volume. Comments from other band members along the lines of 'that box puts out a lot of sound' and 'the bass sounds fantastic' . The bass frequencies are rich deep and warm. The Monza is much more sensitive to mids the the EBS or the EA VL110s I've also used, and I've found that some careful adjustment of high-mid and low-mid on the pre-amp has been required to remove any nasty nasal edginess whilst still sounding as much like a double bass as possible. I've also found it necessary to roll off a bit of the high frequencies. This is an ongoing process but I think I'm getting close after 4 or 5 gigs. My guitar-playing son was in the audience last night and was full of praise for the bass sound. The other observation is that this cab is happy to handle as much power as I have needed to throw at it, and seems to sound better the louder it gets. I've been told a couple of times to turn it down, which I'm happy about given my earlier struggles to get enough volume without massive feedback issues, in fairness mostly caused by pickups rather than cabinet choice. I've now sold all my other cabs so I'm committed to the Monza, either with the iAmp doubler or my Walkabout Scout head for bass guitar when the opportunity for that arises. Hope that someone finds this useful, happy to answer any questions if I can.

You could ask the public during the survey, "Where can I get felt?" Make a careful note of the answers. Serious tip - put the new felt over the top of the old felt. Don't bother stripping it off.

The minefield that is EB MM Sterlings (not stingray!)
pete.young replied to Minininjarob's topic in Bass Guitars
Try putting -"Sterling by Music Man" , as in minus sign open quotes Sterling by Music Man close quotes , in your google search string, that will weed out most of the references to the non-US line of basses. Although the SB14 is a good approximation to a real Stirling for not as much money. -
Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
pete.young replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
I can confirm that Delano used to do a set that will fit - I have some in my SB465 and both neck and bridge are 94mm long. Looking at the current specs it seems that there are several types available with 92mm neck and 95mm bridge, the neck one will be OK but you might need to measure the bridge rout. I thinkthat some Sadowsky basses use the same width. -

Help setting up a rig with Ashdown CTM 100
pete.young replied to Kateplaysbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Did you buy it from Ashdown? Might be worth asking @Ashdown Engineering which socket you should use to connect the cab chain. It's likely that cab sockets will be wired in parallel, not series, best to check with the manufacturers. If so this would give a total load of 2.66 Ohms. Most of the advice you will get on here is aslong the lines of "don't mix drivers of different sizes", the old-wives tale about small drivers good for high frequencies, big drivers good for bass doesn't seem to apply any more. In that sense it's odd, but it's a workable setup. I'd get some good quality earplugs. That is going to be one loud rig, even if you only use the 2x15. -

If you click on the 3 dots at the top right of the post and select 'Report', that's the best way to get someone's attention. It's a bit obscure isn't it.

Have to say I'm very happy with my LFSys Monza, slightly over your spec at 11kg but a great sounding cab and an easy one-handed lift because the handle is in the right place.

You could give Presto Lights a try, or some other gut-alike variety. I have these on my acoustic upright because I wanted a lower tension, but they still have a steel core and work with magnetic pickups.

I think the key here is practice - a small amount a day for a few weeks will get you up to a reasonable standard quite quickly. I had a similar situation a few years ago when I was persuaded to take up the tuba for a wind band. I was given some basic instruction and a selection of bass parts to learn. I did 30 minutes a day for 6 weeks, and when I went to my first rehearsal I was able to cope with all the parts I'd been working on . I think I played out with the band about another 6 weeks later. I'd played piano and double bass for years and could read bass clef so that helped. Besides jazz and pub ska bands, you will find that there are opportunities in community wind bands who are always in need of more woodwind and brass players. You'll need to read treble clef and maybe alto though. Some of the bigger bands will also have intermediate bands as feeders for the main band, which may be a good way to get started if you're not confident or quite up to standard of the rest of the band.

Normally I'd agree with you , but this particular bass is an unliined fretless.
