To do that would be to miss the point completely. The line that Flea plays drives the whole tune and makes the version sound what it is. It's the essential and fundamental part of the entire arrangement. The difficult thing to capture is not the notes, but the energy of the performance. This version by Josh Fossgreen is a pretty good representation. Start slow, work it up.

This. You don't need to buy anything else.

You have to admit this is a very impressive bit of kit. Love this video explaining how the patches were put together for the official demo.

"I really wanted to play your guitar" (tanked up punters)

In pubs, I've had some interesting chats with bass players who would come up and talk about the gear I was using, particularly when I had the VBass and VB99. Frequently these were people I knew, Ipswich is a small world. The random strangers wanting to have a go on the drums or the guitar always happened at weddings, and the bigger the fee the bigger the outrage when they were politely told it wasn't possible. -
Not that exact rig, but the singer in our old band had the previous version and used it for solo 'karaoke style' gigs with a backing track and vocal mike. It was perfectly OK for that and lasted a couple of years before being replaced with a Bose L1 . If you can stretch the budget to the 600 that's probably worthwhile, and Happy Jack's link might be worth a look.

If you wanted new, you could try looking at the latest bluetooth-enabled Yamaha Stagepas. https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Yamaha-Stagepas-400BT-Portable-PA-System-with-Speaker-Stands/2JUD Leaves a bit in the budget for spare cables, or maybe even a cheap mike such as an XM8500.

There's a great band in Stowmarket who are looking for a guitarist. They're good musicians and top people. Their Join My Band ad is in the link below, contact them or PM me and I'll put you in touch. https://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/guitarist-wanted-t1208668.html

I think that's how the VB99 worked, from memory. Probably a question for @ped

Some strings are higher in tension than others for the same external diameter. This is frequently due to them having hexagon cores rather than round cores. Some manufacturers publish string tension information - D'addario and GHS do, and probably others too. GHS Boomers and DR Low RIders are generally reckoned to have higher tension than other alternatives. And then there are flatwounds - Chromes are high-tension, TI Flats relatively low.

Colin Fulton, who I believe is now in Laxfield, is an extremely fine luthier. Last time I saw him he was making some jazz archtops ala Gibson 175. Now he's moved though, I'm not sure the number I still have for him is current. Can do some digging if you're not sorted.

Why would you need to unscrew and re-screw the bridge? You don't need to take it off to change the strings, if that's what you're thinking. Given that you are thinking about a 5-string, the extra rigidity that you get with the 6-bolt neck should manifest itself in a much better sounding B string . This is obviously not so much of an issue for 4-string players. But since I haven't tried either, I couldn't say for sure. I have played a 434 and the neck was superb.

Some metronome apps have the ability to listen to a piece of music, or a heartbeat , or similar and work out how many beats per minute. I don't use one, but try a search on Beats Per Minute or similar and see what comes up for your mobile phone of choice.

If it's bang for buck you're after, a used 19" studio rack compressor will probably give better value than a pedal. I got mine for about £35 quid, it has decent metering and does attack, release, threshold, ratio and make-up gain, and as a bonus it's 2-channel so you can use the other channel as a limiter.

Headrush is fine but there's no point whatsoever in panning to one side or other. Stereo for live sound is complete waste of time with a pub band PA. Middle everything.
