  1. Have you thought about sending it back to Rob Green?
  2. Looks like I spoke too soon. The pedal circuit works perfectly, but I have a huge 'pop' through the amp when switching it on and off with the footswitch. The input and output capacitors appear to be connected to ground so I'm not sure what to check next. I might try re-soldering the output cap just in case, but the pot will have to come off to get at it. If anyone has any suggestions for what to look at next, I'd be very grateful.
  3. Looks great, well done. I have a used SE 3A if you want to give that a go. I think it works but might have a crackly pot. I don't want anything for it but you might need to find some black stacked knobs for a couple of the pots. I think Axes'R'Us have them. SE 3A has volume, blend, bass/treble and para EQ, last two are stacked pots.
  4. It's worrying for those of us who rely on small music venues and studios for the rehearsal space we need to keep on doing what we love. Our local small venue and rehearsal space, the excellent Smokehouse in Ipswich, has started a crowdfunding page to help them survive. Some people here might be in a position to help similar local venues be able to open when the time comes.
  5. Yes, I think it's an optimistic price. I think you could get a genuine Gibson for not much more, although Greco build quality is likely to be better 🙂
  6. A Domino Californian. Never seen one of these before. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Vintage-Domino-Californian-Bass-1960-s/133404639133?hash=item1f0f893f9d:g:PIgAAOSwfWFes-d9 And a Greco Thunderbird, complete with mojo. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Greco-TB1100-Thunderbird-Bass-1980-w-hard-case/133402018396?hash=item1f0f61425c:g:fAcAAOSwAbxesAA5
  7. Just finished my latest kit, an Echo Blue Delay from Fuzzdog. This is the first one I've done with the daughter board for the switch. It does make everything a bit easier to assemble, and with a bit of ribbon cable between the main board and the switch makes for a very neat job. Some things I did differently this time: identified all the components and taped them to the bill of materials for easy identification once the build got underway; bolted the pots into the encloser and put the board on top to solder in place; and left a few components until after the pots were installed, to give a bit more room to solder the pots in. Not sure if any of that made a huge difference, but the build seemed to go very smoothly. You have got to hand it to Fuzzdog, he does a great job. Not sure how many of these I'm going to do though. My eyesight seems to be getting worse, even with helping hands and the magnifying glass.
  8. Vox Wyman? I had one in the early '70s. Didn't really get on with it, neck too skinny, way too heavy (chrome scratch plate) and the sound wasn't great. Sold it and bought a Futurama Coronado IV which was a huge improvement as far as I was concerned. Bill didn't really use his much either, I think he preferred the Framus.
  9. I ordered a set late Friday which arrived this morning. Very fast service and the strings look like a premium product. Many thanks for a very generous offer. Now , which bass do I put them on??? Decisions, decisions 🙂
  10. Engineers in pub gigs?
  11. The bridge pickup looks very similar to the dual coil that Fender used to put into the Jazz deluxe (I think that's what it was called). I made something similar a couple of weeks ago to replace the one in my Hondo Alien, using a pair of jazz single coils, a dremel and some araldite.
  12. Cheapest option and minimum surgery is to replace the jack socket with one with a built-in preamp. My Seagull has a Godin EMP Quantum IT system which works well, https://godinguitars.com/product/godin-epm-quantum-it-acoustic-system-with-tuner-battery-cables-and-jack . Agree with Frank about the Fishman stuff too, I have a Presys on another guitar which is also fine.
  13. That's a relief. I thought you were going to say he'd died.
  14. Well it works for 2 or 3 pedals, and I don't think you'll blow anything up - if there isn't enough current it just means some pedals won't work properly. I don't think the circuitry in these bricks does a great deal, and you might get a very similar result by using a 9V wall wart and a daisy chain.
  15. Should be OK provided your total load doesn't exceed 375 Ma. The individual outputs are not isolated, so you effectively have a daisy-chain of 9V ouputs inside the box anyway. The 18v outputs provide 625 Ma between them and there's no transformer in that part of the circult - the 18V outputs come straight off the 18v wall wart that powers the unit. I have one of these and I have a daisy chain somewhere so can do an experiment if you can wait until this evening for the results.
  16. Ah, OK, if it's the Combo II head then yes, it'll be a LM3.
  17. I wouldn't change the head. The head in these combos is a LMII head which is a class A/B , and gives a much better sound (IMO) than the newer Class D variants. Sell it and buy a newer combo.
  18. Becos would be worth looking at for a pedal, but you might be better off with a 19" rack unit like a DBX166 if you don't like the faff of pedals. Dunno how rack-mountable an Aguilar TH350 is though.
  19. Russ Ballard impression!
  20. @Richthe artwork looks excellent. I have a Fuzzdog EchoBlue Delay which arrived a couple of days ago. I was casting round the garage for a rattlecan of blue paint, but might give this idea a go instead.
  21. Vintage V300 acoustic Seagull Grand Sunburst GT parlour acoustic Epiphone Masterbilt Zenith archtop Fylde Orsino, 1975-ish Anderwood Type 1 Weissenborn lap steel Vintage bitza Strat oh, and a Fylde electric . How did that happen? For someone who doesn't play guitar, I have a hell of a lot of guitars!
  22. I do. I'll PM you.
  23. 2 for me, and we only play stuff that was recorded by the Pogues.
