What's the next step up for me? Bass options
pete.young replied to Friskydingo's topic in Bass Guitars
For Fender, I think the best bang/buck ratio is to be found with the not-for-export Made In Japan / Crafted in Japan instruments. They crop up for sale on the forum occasionally - there's a '62 RI CIJ Jazz in the classifieds at the moment. Or maybe a Yamaha - a 734 perhaps. Peach Guitars probably have one of these in stock. I played Loremil's 434 a couple of weeks ago, beautifully finished instrument with a very comfortable neck. -

( Not the First) East Anglian Bass Bash (EABB) Saturday 2nd November 2019
pete.young replied to jonunders's topic in Events
Fair enough. Thanks for trying, as everyone has said. Maybe we should look at doing something in the Ipswich area - would that work better for people? Kind regards Pete -
Might also be worth a look at JJ Tesla's KT88s. I've not used them, but I've had good results with their KT77s.
-
Plus one to that, I'd suggest you have a chat with Andyjr1515 . If the bridge can't be raised it might be possible to plane off 2mm of the existing fingerboard. Perhaps the way that Overwater make fingerboards isn't compatible with something that's already fixed to an instrument?

Maybe the band had nothing whatsoever to do with placing the ad? It looks to me like something that an acquaintance who thought they were helping out would do.

Have had some success with rubber door stops.

A 1960 Strat in Fiesta Red, c.1978 in A1 Music, Oxford Rd, Manchester. Would be worth about 25 grand today. A couple of Fylde acoustics which made an appearance in Sounds Acoustic around the same time, notably a Prospero 12-string. There is a happy ending though - in 1977 I went down to Sounds Acoustic with about £25 quid in my sweaty mitt to buy a cheap Martin copy. Arrived at the shop to see some dude leaving with my guitar, the last one in stock. I consoled myself by playing a second-hand Fylde Orsino, and bought it on finance. It took me 2 years to pay it off, but I still have that guitar today and it's one of my most prized posessions.

On-board or external?

Many 2x12 cabs are 4 Ohm. I guess this is a consequence of individual drivers all being 8Ohm. I have an EBS Neo 2x12 which is 4 Ohm. Slight mid scoop but otherwise you get out what you put in. The mighty Tech Soundsystems NDS 412 I had for a while was also 4 Ohms.

Or, go to google and type in "site:basschat.co.uk/topic/<whatever the misc forum is called> East Retro"

Modern? The clip is nearly 10 years old! Paul is on tour early next year, I'm going to see him in Ipswich. Tour dates: https://paulcarrack.net/live

Indeed. Perhaps someone local could check out the nearest cash converters, if you're not able to do so yourself?

Excellent, congratulations and well done!

Never had this with band members, but we did one gig at a Hockey club where someone in the audience got naked. We were half way through a song when I became aware of this dude walking straight down the middle of the hall, wearing nothing but a gold posing pouch. He got to the stage, took it off and threw it at the band, where it wrapped itself round one of the cymbals. Lady vocalist suitably scandalised. Oddly enough, the song we were playing was "What's that coming over the hill, it's a monster!". Although sadly, it turned out not to be.

Dual Guitar Stand For Spector / Warwick Body Basses
pete.young replied to WHUFC BASS's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yes, the double Hercules is ideal for odd-shaped basses because there are no arms underneath the body, it's supported from the headstock and a strut that goes up against the guitar back. I use mine with a BBNE2 which is a similar body shape to Spector, and various Bass Collections. Not great for headless though. -
I just bought a PJB amp from Lorenzo, and collected it yesterday. Great communication throughout, and very friendly when I arrived to collect. Amp in as-new condition, I'd definitely deal with Lorenzo again. Especially if he puts the BB434 up for sale 🙂

You could try some Status half rounds. I have a set on my Duesenberg, which is a 30" scale bass that takes medium strings because of the tailpiece adding to the speaking length. I really like them, but I'm not using them acoustically. Really, if you want to be audible , you need a double bass, or something with a huge body. The only acoustic bass guitar Ive tried which was louder than polite conversation was a Breedlove, and I could barely reach my arm round it to get to the top string.

Just knew I shouldn't have said yes to a band.

You're not alone. I've just kicked a band into touch for precisely this reason. -

pete.young replied to jonunders's topic in Events
@jonunders it wasn't just you, I think the last two pages of this thread have been missing for weeks and only just re-appeared. There was someone else in the Introductions thread who expressed an interest. I'm still interested if it's going to happen. -
