  1. Hhmmm. Don't suppose you've got any Koa in that there woodpile?
  2. You could also pop over the road and have a pint in the Man and Scythe , which is one of the oldest and best pubs in the North West.
  3. My parents had one of these as a PA for their folk dance band in the '70s. I'm pretty sure it ran 2 8Ohm speakers. I took it to the tip some time ago so can't confirm.
  4. Some great information here. I think the advice to start with a six-string lap steel is spot on. I've just bought a cheap Weissenborn, inspired by seeing Martin Harley at Red Rooster, and KK is dead right that there's a lot to get to grips with just to get started.
  5. Ha, I think we could mount quite an impressive DDOS attack using the collective equipment of basschat to build a botnet 🙂
  6. Burns Nu-Sonic looks as though it will be fairly close: https://www.thomann.de/gb/burns_nu_sonic_bass_trans_red.htm
  7. Oh look, it's back. Same body, same original seller. Different neck, different hardware. Beats me. Surely no-one is going to pay £1200 quid for this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-ORDER-MADE-MIJ-62-RI-JAZZ-BASS-OCEAN-TURQUOISE-GREEN-1989-FUJIGEN-MIJ-/292635312481?oid=292479277315
  8. The key with Schaller straplocks is not to put them on the strap. Put the strap on the button and then put the straplock on over the top of the strap.
  9. No. You would need to run it through an amplifier first - but then you could do that more easily with the line out.
  10. You could also talk to Steve at Guitar Lodge in Felixstowe. I didn't realise it, but he advertises refinishes. I've used him for setups and a mandolin neck repair, he's a really capable guy and very pleasant to deal with. https://www.guitarlodge.co.uk
  11. Massive +1 for Matt Schofield. Eric Gales is pretty cool too. If you prefer something a bit more acoustic, Martin Harley is great :
  12. How about Sushi? A Yamaha SA2100 would be really close, and about 1/4 the price.
  13. I hope you had a great holiday. I'm glad you're back though, I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!
  14. We found that a good way to deal with this was an Uninterruptible Power Supply.
  15. Suffolk's a big place! Colin Fulton in Little Glemham, north of Ipswich, would be one person to consider.
  16. To drag this back onto topic, interesting though the diversion is : Ask HappyJack if his Matamp is still for sale.
  17. You can learn the chord shapes, and it's fun to attempt the odd tune. There is a load of useful stuff in the Mandolin Cafe forums although it's US-centric and mostly aimed at Bluegrass and Country music https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/
  18. Because you can't undo a flat head screw with a Phillips.
  19. No thread would be complete without a gratuitous mention of Colin Hodgkinson. I've been listening to this man for 45 yeqrs and I still have no real clue how he does it!
  20. It's worked out for Kelly. But this was just to attend the audition. Even if you didn't pass the audition, didn't get near the show, you were still committed to paying Simon his cut. 10% of all those $250 pub gigs adds up.
