  1. It's not all about the diameter, the tension is primarily a function of the string core. Might work out well. The new bass looks excellent from the photos - by the sound of it this is as close to a happy ending as you were likely to get from an off-the-shelf solution.
  2. Give your guide dog a pat and a biscuit from me.
  3. Stairville from Thomann. BLS-315. Bought as a replacement for the cheap crap aluminium stand that came with my Equinox light, much better quality and about a metre taller.
  4. Wonder if some banjo tuners would give you a bit more room?
  5. My Fylde acoustic has a cedar top. That was made in about 1975 and isn't showing any signs of wearing out.
  6. Have you thought about a Bass Collection 5? I've just weighed my SB465 at 8.6lbs, and that has an ebony fretboard and a dense hardwood cap - a standard SB315 might get under the 8.5lb mark. String spacing is 19mm.
  7. And lets not forget sheer dogged determination, hard graft - 600+ gigs in 2 or 3 years, sleeping on people's sofas, the underground. He's paid his dues and deserves all the success he's had if you ask me.
  8. Axes 'R' Us have a fine selection.
  9. I don't agree - the TRB5P and TRB4P from the early nineties were better and more versatile instruments imo.
  10. I have a BB800 from '79 which is like this, and I think the BB1000 from the same era did too.
  11. Some weird auto-correct going on there - should have said 'ahead of the pre-amp'. Apologies.
  12. There are hundreds of threads about this. Generally, loops are intended for line-level (ie rack) effects. Most pedals work off instrument level and belong ahead of the dream. Just because guitarists do something does not mean it is actually a good idea - the 64 million flies argument applies.
  13. Basschat breaking new ground, as ever. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time in the banjo shop. And I believe they also stock accordions!
  14. These are great tuners for tuning the instrument, but using one to work on your intonation? I don't see how that's going to work, you need to use the tuner between your ears for that.
  15. Simon is the guy who makes Matt Schofield's guitars. Seriously good stuff, great choice.
  16. Doesn't seem worth imposing the task of vetting messages on the mods. Never mind, thanks for looking into it.
  17. Sorry guys, I won't be able to make it this year: I'll be sampling the delights of Huddersfield that weekend! Have a great time 🙂
  18. Sorry, still not seeing it. Macplus with Safari. Am I doing something wrong?
  19. That bridge reminds me of something- maybe an early OLP? Should be able to pick one of those up for £150 - £200 , preferably a later one with a better bridge. Jack's right, there are far better things you could do with £230.
  20. Think you're getting warm. I believe guitarists may use these leads also. Better safe than sorry.
  21. An observation: my LMII is class AB and doesn't seem to add any audible distortion. Is this true for all class AB?
  22. John Levoi knows his stuff. The FG-180 was legendary in its day for being a great sounding guitar for not much money. I think Paul Brady used to play one. If it sounds good, I wouldn't worry.
  23. If you are really lucky, a MIJ or CIJ not-for-export model will come up on the second hand market.
