  1. Looking at the input specifications for Turbosound subs, they are typically 45Hz - 150Hz +- 3dB 38Hz - 200Hz -10dB So anything above that range (ie all the important mids) will be lost. Satellite outputs are just more subs.
  2. Only the top one is connected to an amplifier. The other one is being used as a stand.
  3. I have one. I know Essex is a big place but if you're at the Colchester end and fancy a trip to Ipswich you're welcome to come round and try it. @51m0n wrote a great review of it here:
  4. My latest banjo project - this all started when the long-scale Cort tenor finally succumbed to the fractured neck joint. I was looking for a cheap replacement neck and a UK luthier-made one popped up on ebay, so I bought it. I then spent a couple of months plucking up the courage to drill the neck for the horrible cheap single-rod fixing, and generally deciding that the neck deserved a nicer pot. Then 2 things happened: firstly, I found a way of fixing the headstock break on the original neck, and secondly the same luthier put up a ready made pot with hardware, so I bought that too. The neck has now been fixed to the pot and I am waiting for some tuners, a tailpiece and a bridge so that I can string it up.
  5. If anyone is interested in a double bass gig with a moderately loud but very competent blues band, please get in touch. I'm trying to leave and it would be great to be able to introduce someone new. @Happy Jack you have my permission to say "I told you so" 🙂
  6. My V-Accordion sounds fantastic through my Roland AC60, with a TecAmp Puma as a sub.
  7. Is there something wrong with using the labels from Left Handed Giant beer cans?
  8. There are a lot of options for 4 Ohm 2x12. A lot of 12" drivers seem to be only availble in 8 Ohm ratings, and the options for wiring them together are limited. I have an EBS Neo 2x12 . It's a great sounding cab and very sensitive - quoted as 103dB. I used it with an LM2 for a while and it was a great combination. When I got it it was unfeasibly light at 24 Kg. Time has moved on so I guess it's no longer a true lightweight but I can still lift it with one hand.
  9. How well does it work with fretless bass guitar? Maybe you don't need the electric upright after all 🙂
  10. I think it looks great and I love the finish. The secret with Schaller strap locks is not to put them on the strap. Just put the strap on the pin, then fit the straplock on top of it.
  11. Ah, I see. The 410TVX is a decent sounding cab, which are cheap because they are heavy. You will need a separate head for it. You might be better to hold on for a used combo - the Fender Rumble range for example, there are plenty about in sizes from 40W up to 500W, any of which would be an improvement on your Ampeg.
  12. There is no speaker out or extension so no you can't just plug it into another cabinet. You could take the line out and plug it into another combo or head/cab setup, but really what would be the point - A BA 108 is a bedroom practice amp at best.
  13. Irish bouzouki has a longer scale length, not quite as long as an actual Greek bouzouki but a serious stretch for GDAE particularly if you are attempting to use violin fingering, rather than Irish tenor banjo style (use the pinky on the 5th fret and slide up to the 7th). I'd say if you want to play melodies and use GDAE then an octave mandolin would be a good choice. If you are more focussed on accompaniment and GDAD then a bouzouki scale length allows you lighter strings which ning out more. Ashbury stuff is pretty good at entry level. Very similar to Ozark.
  14. For several years, until Covid and lockdowns intervened, I was fortunate to play in a band called Waxies Dargle, which played the music of The Pogues. To mark Shane's passing, we've decided to come out of retirement to play a one-off concert to celebrate Shane's life and all the great music that he and the Pogues made, and raise some money for Encephalitis International. Saturday 23rd March 2024 at 7.30 pm, St Stephens Church, St Stephens Lane, Ipswich IP1 1DP . There is a Facebook site for the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1599309527553931?active_tab=about Tickets are available here: https://app.etickets.to/buy/?e=19483
  15. My least favourite was the Royal Horseguards Hotel in Whitehall Place. We played at a private party there once on the second floor. Stunning views of the Millenium Wheel. But load-in was down a flight of steps in the street, through a couple of passage ways, through the kitchen (currently engaged in providing dinner service for about 200 guests), round some more passages, into a crappy goods lift, and then another set of passages on the 2nd floor. Loading out was much easier, down two flights of stairs in the adjoining Liberal Club (talk about seedy opulence) and out the main entrance. Parking was less of a challenge than you might expect - the drummer ran a parking business and had the keys to a nearby underground carpark.
  16. My BBNE2 isn't getting a lot of use, and hasn't since my last pop band took a one-year sabbatical in 2016. It's all double bass for me too at the moment.
  17. Smoothhound PSU is 9V centre positive so you'd need a polarity adaptor. I have a Nordell Audio unit which is really great, it's isolated and totally silent, but only has one 500ma output.
  18. Diego pedalboards have carpet so you need hooks on your pedals if you use one of them.
  19. I haven't bought anything for a while, but I think Paypal have now introduced another step, which requires the seller to enter a code when the item is collected, thereby nullifying point (3) .
  20. Sir Cliff is going to be very upset when he finds out.
  21. Easiest way I found to do this was to get a pair of phono - jack leads and connect the output from the cassette player into my Zoom H4N. You could do a similer thing with the Focusrite if it has two mic/line inputs, and record / edit it with Audacity.
  22. Me three. I can console mayself that I still have the last fretless bargain that I bought from @Beedster, which seems to be getting a bit more use.
  23. Sometimes you need to do this if you go for in-ear monitors - good ear buds will block out most of the drums.
