  1. Having owned both, I'd say it makes an even better P sound than the TRB5P . The combination of the stacked humbuckers and the pre-amp gives you any tone you want. Just because it looks like a Jazz, doesn't mean it is one.
  2. As I said in my post on 2nd January in this very thread ... More like 20 years, I'm sure the one I had was early '90 s Yamaha haven't entirely stopped making neck throughs. You want to check out the BBNE2.
  3. Excellent stuff, thanks for sharing the story. Isn't it fantastic to get a glimpse into another life. You did a great job, I think you might get the call again.
  4. It's a great octaver, even if the synth bits don't do anything for you.
  5. Probably best to avoid those people in future.
  6. Please could you post some more pictures of the strap button? The reason I ask is that in order to fit a KK Sound mandolin twin pickup, it needs to be possible to drill out the strap pin without interfering with the bridge.
  7. Barefaced are not the only game in town. I have an EBS 2x12. I can't imagine ever needing two.
  8. An unexpected birthday present from my son - tickets to see Chic in the RAH for the Teenage Cancer Trust. What an awesome present!
  9. Yes, you might expect that. The manual is one area where Zoom have kept the costs down. In general I've found that if you can identify what the pedal is supposed to be a clone of, you get more information from the original manual. The fishman is a good example of this - there's some info about adjusting Depth in conjunction with the Bass EQ on the pedal, but I wasn't paying enough attention to it to remember the detail!
  10. I thought the Snark was barely acceptable for bass, and it is utterly blown into the weeds by the TC Electronic Polytune.
  11. Apologies once more to Bigwan. I'd also say that, if people seriously want to understand what the Fishman clone in the MS-60B does, the right way to go about it is to go read the documentation for the Fishman preamp, which someone was considerate enough to post earlier in the thread. And which also explains how to get the best out of the low cut (or depth) control.
  12. Yes it does, and so does the B1On and the B1XOn. Edit: Apologies Bigwan, I'm not sure what happened there, but it was meant to be a reply to an earlier posting of Al Krow's.
  13. On the Zoom bass pedals, the AC BS Pre is a clone of the Fishman Platinum Pro. The 'Depth' control is a HPF at 12dB/oct - not as steep as the Thumpinator but might achieve some of the desired effect. Thanks Bigwan, great minds think alike :-)
  14. It's probably not a good idea to use 2 8Ohm cabs (total load of 4Ohm if you daisy chain them) on the bridged output - that will be looking for a minimum load of 8Ohm. What you should do is put one 8Ohm speaker on each channel. It'll be louder because you'll be moving twice as much air, don't get hung up on 4 Ohm vs 8Ohm and this 'get the full power of the amp' nonsense. If you like the sound of the 210p buy another one of those, instead of a 115p .
  16. Will try and sort some pictures out if the weather ever improves!
  17. Another 20 years? Seems expensive for what it is. I have a second-hand golf trolley which cost 15 quid plus a longer bit of webbing and some 1/2inch pipe insulation for padding, and the wheels are big enough to cope with a typical UK folk festival grassy field.
  18. They seem to go through here around 400 - 450. Sold mine for £15 quid in 1975, what I paid for it!
  19. As an alternative, don't put the straplock onto the strap. Put the strap onto the button and then clip the straplock over the top.
  20. I'd be asking for some better pictures of the heel neck/body joint - this is what usually gives up the ghost on these. This one is 1964 by the way.
  21. Hi Robert, Think you might struggle with replacing those. The drivers in the VL110 and VL108 were custom drivers made by Eminence and the cabs are transmission line cabs designed around the driver specifications. I managed to source a recone kit from EA some years ago, but they were not very forthcoming about driver specs and it's hard to find the best match, particularly for the woofer, without. You could try emailing EA and asking what they suggest. If the crossovers have gone too I don't know how you'd go about replacing them.
  22. Interesting that - all the ones I've ever seen have been bolt-ons, and P/J 5s are fairly unusual. Got any pics?
