1.
I've currently got a Sire V7 5er and its great, However my fingers get cramped up on the A-D-G strings on frets 1-4.
I find one of the benefits of the 5 string is that you don't need to play down the neck end, which is great for people like me with short arms. Have you tried playing it on E-A-D strings on frets 6-9 ?
2.
However, there were older PB70 models that were available from Japan such as OLY and RW, Black and RW with mirrored pick guard (I had one) and also Ash bodied models in either sunburst or natural with RW or Maple boards! You'll see some on eBay if you search PB70, but beware of CITES if you want a Rosewood model when it comes to importing.
Indeed, I have a 'P' serial number (2002 - 2004?) with a natural ash body and a maple neck, but it has dots rather than blocks. It has a 'B' profile neck, somewhere inbetween a Jazz and a traditional P bass shape.
3.
I do not WANT to sound stupid, but is that software for the floor unit or the guitar?
The guitar. It's called 'Line 6 Variax Workbench Software' or something similar.
4.
The 'Tanglewood' link seems to be wrong. Here's a good'un ... Tanglewood Elfin Mini-bass ...
I bought one of these when my then-small son showed an interest. 19.5 inch scale. Very playable and sounds surprisingly good.
5.
Set it up to behave like a 6 string bass through an amp?
Absolutely yes. If you get hold of a copy of the software that goes with it, you can transpose it down an octave, very straight forward. You can also experiment with pickup choice and placement, though you don't get bass pickups there are a lot of things you can do with it. Very versatile.
6.
One/Nil to Peggy Lee
Er, no. One - Nil to Little Willie John.
7. I'm pretty sure that the FC1010 is a programme change controller and doesn't play notes. I have a Roland FC300, which doesn't either.
8. A 'Luxor' jazz copy, looks very Matsumoku . Slightly optimistic BIN I feel. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1972-Luxor-Jazz-Bass-Lawsuit-MIJ-Matsumoku-/322595387244?hash=item4b1c2ef76c:g:s-sAAOSwxxdZa2cV
9. OLP MM22 plus a pre-amp change?
10. The nicest Precision I've ever played was HappyJack's '65. If I had an option to own one, I'd take it.
11. Now sorted, thanks Phil. What an amazing bit of kit these things are!
12. I love my EBS Neo 2x12 so much that when I stupidly sold it in favour of something I thought was going to be better, I had to go out and buy another one!
13. I'm using eneloop and 7-day-shop's own brand AAs, AAAs and PP3s. But not for bass preamp batteries. They seem to be lasting literally years, even for basses I play a lot.
14. No response from the 'Wanted' forum, so I thought I'd ask in here - if anyone has a Headway EDB-1 that they'd like to turn into some readies, please drop me a PM.
15. For folk harps or celtic harps you could try Hobgoblin Music.
Stunning bass, is the fretboard rosewood or ebony
It's ebony. They all are. Have a free bump on me Daryl.
17. The manual for the Multi-amp should include a section listing the MIDI functions which it implements - this is a condition of using the MIDI standard.

19.
Hmm. If you listen to the original version by Peggy Lee you will hear that the bass phrase in each successessive chorus is subtly different from the preceding one. And they raise a semitone each chorus. It seems simple but it's not easy to play. This version sounds how I would probably play it if I was confronted by an open mike singer, ie not very well. Sorry Pete, I'm a bit grumpy this Sunday morning.
Sorry you don't like it, I thought it was pretty good. I'll be grumpy right back at ya and say that the original version was Little Willie John in 1956! Knocks Peggy Lee into a cocked hat if you ask me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y27vBA68Zyk
20. I've always thought that 'Fever' would be a great choice for a bass accompaniment, and this is marvellous playing by Tal Ronen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLTDkiKVxwY
21. With good reason. They are excellent at what they do, and everyone loves that music! I'm a huge fan.
22.
What i have found over many years is that musicians who play in orchestral type situations play exactly what the music tells them to and in perfect timing. That's great for what they are doing. Put them with guys who don't read manuscript and they are out of their comfort zone and don't generally blend with jamming musicians.
My experience over many years, including orchestral work, brass bands, wind bands and many other genres, is that everyone is different. Some of the best musicians I've met for improvising are classically trained. Normally there is a great deal of interpretation, encouraged and shaped by the conductor and musical director.
23. That looks very interesting. Where did you get it from, if you don't mind me asking? Dealers seem to be a bit thin on the ground.
