PA speaker stands. Good, fairly cheap and lightweight?
pete.young replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have a Stairville stand that came from Thomann, think that's an in-house brand. It's actually primarily for lights but would be OK as a speaker stand too. Can't fault the quality, it's a lot better than the garbage aluminium jobs that were supplied with the lights. If one of your choices at Thomann is Stairville then I can vouch for the general build quality. -
Neutrik Jacks - Driving me mad!
pete.young replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you have the problem soldering to the thick metal outer earth on those neutriks, rub then down with a little sandpaper or wet n dry. They will solder much easier..
This. I also find that putting a dab of flux on and tinning the area first helps. -
I had a set on my Precision for a while, partly because people on Basschat said you must have a precision with flats on. When I put some new rounds on, the bass was transformed . so I guess they're not for everyone.

Never liked his music in the 70s and it hasn't improved with age. There again, neither have I .

New cab, same as the old cab, day for me! Some time ago I moved on the best cab I've ever owned in search of something better. Now let that be a lesson to you! The cab in question was an EBS neo 2x12, for me the perfect compromise between tone, volume, portability and weight. I've been looking for a while and one popped up on eBay. One auction later and its mine, brand new condition, same great sound, it's all good. A big vote of thanks to a nice chap called Mike from Merseyside, don't think he's on here. Rehearsal with new Mr. Drums on Thursday, can't wait!

These definitely work, but pricy for a one-off gig: https://www.drumshack.co.uk/1/lp-cajon-pedal-lp1500-8238?gclid=CPSu1vrb2coCFdZAGwodF1EKvg

I don't know about the SPD sx, but in 40 hooh hah years of doing this I have never ever come across a Roland product which didn't exceed my expectations, so I think it's not going to be a huge risk.

Smooth Hound Innovations Digital Wireless Guitar System
pete.young replied to Dood's topic in Accessories and Misc
Ha ha, busted :-) . Thanks Chris, if and when I get round to it I'll be sure to report back and add another data point! -
Yep - my LMII (made in Italy) is built like a tank. Not the same build quality any more.
It's all relative. I have an LMII and I couldn't believe how flimsy it was compared to the Burman that I also owned at the time.

Smooth Hound Innovations Digital Wireless Guitar System

Question for Chris - has anyone tried using a SmoothHound in reasonably close proximity to a Panda Midi box? -
Weight would be the thing I think. AFAIK it's the only wood that actually sinks in water - happy to be wrong about that, but even so it does tell you a lot about the density.
Lignum Vitae. And Natalie Wood.

Most PA power amps will have 2 4 ohm channels, which will allow you to run two pairs of 8 ohm cabs. Peavey ipr1600 for example. Then you just need a pre amp.
How do you guys cope with 14/15/16 mm spacing??
Badly. For 5s, Try SGC Nanyo Bass Collection, despite what someone said earlier in the thread. Try Yamaha BB ditto, my BBNE2 is 18mm at the bridge. My TRB5P Mk1 was 19mm with a fretboard like the deck of an aircraft carrier. MTD Kingston has a nice wide spacing. Fender 5s are 19mm. Stingray 5 is 17.5mm at the bridge, about the narrowest I can cope with. Maruszczyk will make wider spacings. For 6s, you're going to struggle to get anything much more than 17mm unless you go the custom route.
I'd get absolutely no pleasure from playing this now, knowing that a 13y/o boy has been criminalised by his own father for making a simple mistake
Sometimes you just have to wonder what kind of world we are living in, when fathers can do this to sons. Kudos to the op for doing the right thing and good luck in your search.

In that case try cdguitars.co.uk they sell spare schaller straplock nuts and washers.

Take the straplock off the strap, put the strap on the button and fit the straplock on the button ever the top of the strap.

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
pete.young replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
I have recently put some Delano pickups into my 465 to go with the nordy preamp that has been there for a while. It's a great combination which has transformed the bass into a real tone monster. -
What is perfect pitch with a banjo? Throwing it in the bin without it hitting the sides. I adore banjo. Wish I knew more about it and will check out the suggestions. I had assumed it took decades to get a reasonable sound.
That would be "into a toilet without hitting the seat". It's like anything else: any idiot can master the equivalent of root - 5th in a couple of days but to get to a reasonable level takes a bit of time and effort. If you are anywhere near Suffolk you are welcome to drop by and I can show you the basics of old time frailing/clawhammer/drop thumb and Irish style tenor. Not bluegrass though, I found that way too difficult to master anything more than a basic 3 finger roll.
