1. I built the pedalparts ts808 kit which was excellent. Did the straight kit for guitar. There is also a much smaller version without buffers which might leave enough room for a blend circuit, which pedalparts also have. Talk to the diy effects thread for modding ideas there are some very capable builders there.
2. My Duesenberg is 30". I think chowny has just brought out a 34" version.
3. One technique I have seen people use is to make a box and then cut it in half.
4.
I keep meaning to build one of the Blue Box clones, with the octave switch. Maybe I'll pick one up after Xmas.
My son built the poodleparts kit which works spectacularly well with guitar, haven't tried it on Bass.
5.
A bit harsh!
Indeed. I never really got Shane McGowan until I started playing in a Pogues covers band and started to hear the detail. Christmas is only as far away as the next gig :-) Broad Majestic Shannon is magnificent too. This is a nice version for people who don't like Shane much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGD0I5qdw8c I like this lot for the sentiment (not work safe) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv9XZI3zwF4 and the Dropkick Murphy's take on it "The Season's Upon Us" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTx-sdR6Yzk Worst is probably a toss up between Cliff and Spaceman came a travelling. Or anything by Chris de Burgh really.
6. I think that if Wunjo have a stand at the bass guitar show, you might get a chance to exhibit there without having to become an official exhibitor. There may also be an opportunity with bass gear if they are going, drop molan on this forum a note and see.
7.
I didn't know the LH500 has a parallel effects loop, well there ya go. Bit naff as there's no blend control either, which kinda restricts it somewhat.
I don't think it does either. Pretty sure it's serial.
8.
You are SO not going to play this sitting down.
Play it? I would just hang it on the wall as a piece of modern art. It probably sounds like sh*t anyway with those strings and pickups.
9.
I would love to, but - and I should have specified in my OP - I'd be looking to spend about half the cost of those bad boys.
My Japanese not for export P has a much slimmer neck than the normal precision.
10. I still have a soft spot for the Korg DT10, which is very easy for a myopic git like me to see. But since I got my TC Polytune clip-on, I don't use it - looks like it'll be moved off the board when I need some more real estate.
11. Colin Hodgkinson with Back Door. Bass, drums and sax.
12. The one at the start of Muse's version of Feelin' Good.
13. I'd go for the 465, even with the EMGs it's a better bass, nicer wood, and you may end up having to change the electrics in the other one anyway.
14. This is going to be a severe test for the 3 bass rule!
15. Nice looking Bass Collection SB320 in snotburst, collection from Leeds: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UPDATED-Bass-Collection-4-String-Electric-Bass-Guitar-SB320-Green-/131660009346?hash=item1ea78c4f82:g:8vAAAOSwhcJWP7a2
16. It looks identical to my SB465, apart from the knobs. Lovely slab of ebony and the top is probably Paduak. I suspect Jack is right and the electrics have been replaced. This is not necessarily a bad thing, the pre-amp in mine died (not uncommon) and there's a certain home-made nature to some of the soldering. I think £400 is a bit high too, start at £300 and work up :-)
17. I have a Tecamp Puma 110 which I sometimes put in front of me, angled back using the supplied 'stick' stand. It DI's into the PA for front of house.
18.
Thanks for all the suggestions. My next question has been put to some engineers but I wondered if I was to be using two basses because they have distinctly different tones that some of the differences between them might be lost by sending them to the sound engineers mixer via one single DI built into my amp.
If this is for live sound, the chances are that those nuances will not be heard by 99% of the audience, and are likely to be lost by the PA anyway. An LS-2 can be used as an A/B box with gain control on each channel. Amongst many other things!
19. The OLP humbucker is wired as two sets of single coils, one set of coils goes to one volume control and the other set to the other volume control. It's basically a Jazz bass setup with the two pickups next to one another. By the sound of it what you have done is added a Jazz pickup to the original and wired it to the front set of coils? If so you've now still got a Jazz bass, but with a bit more distance between the pickups, hence the phase cancelling. One way to fix it is to wire the original pickup as a humbucker, possibly with a series/parallel switch or push/pull pot, and then add a pre-amp to give you blend, volume and some EQ. Thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/14009-pimp-mah-olp/page__p__147925__hl__pimp%20olp__fromsearch__1#entry147925 has someone putting an Artec SE-2A into one.
20.
Many shops will want 15% commission of the sale price
Some shops will want a heck of a lot more. Hobgoblin charged me 30% last time they sold something on commission for me. But at least they did sell it, and it was a fairly esoteric folk instrument.
21. Hook, line, sinker, rod and copy of the Angling Times.
22. There is a great resource for learning to read and sight read on this very site. Try a search for the Major's bass boot camp index
