Try finding a set of jazz pups that are split coil (DiMarzio Model J's), they have a more P-tone.

This arrived in the post today Ive had 5 mins to play around with it and another 5 mins to post this reply before work: Its not as aggressive as the PL, the controls are Gain, Volume, Blend and Hard/Soft Clip switch. Very nicely put together. Might record some clips when i get back tonight, but the lack of sound card might make it sound crap.
