Best Live vocal mic for NOT picking up the backline
jwbassman replied to stevebasshead's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hi Steve As well as playing bass I also do the sound for my bigband - we had a similar problem in as much as the female vocalist is quite quiet in comparision to the large horn section behind her, so I was looking for a mic I could push to get enough of her vocal whilst at the same time not picking up too much of the brass and saxes, the search led me to following... the Audix OM5 I got one of these and it is superb, might solve your problem too... this guys are the cheapest I could find in the UK, the website isn't great but the email communication was good and when I called they were really helpful, would reccommend ringing them... Hope this helps John -
There are one or two candidates on ebay at the moment...
Because that's what Roger Waters is quite famous for using That's why I want one, but with a Jazz neck.
I was considering looking for one with Jazz neck - does it make a massive difference or is it just personal preference?

No, nothing so grand I'm afraid - Victoria Park, Southport It was a great show, looked very well presented, probably looked exactly the same on all the other dates they played With it being an all standing affair we managed to make our way up close to the stage which was great too felt really involved and you could really feel the bass too, which was nice

I know that! Guess it was a bit of a stupid question - doh! It would be good to play in a Floyd tribute band - really enjoyed watching the Ozzy version live. some crappy pictures from my phone...

No - not specifically, although the band we are curently trying to get together is certainly influenced by Pink Floyd and we may well cover a couple of their tracks... Thinking about it I saw the Ozzy Pink Floyd a few months back and it's probably that which planted the seed for said Precision, why do you ask?

Cheers guys, thanks for the feedback - more food for thought here, looks like a bit more research required on my part good job I've got a day off tomorrow...

Cheers guys... mikeh - I agree the perfect the colour combination - what model is yours, US, MIJ etc? burpster - indeed I have considered that and as you say would open up some more options, so not ruled out

Hi Guys Need a little advice from all you Fender Precision aficionados... Looking for a black body, black pickguard, maple neck and maple fingerboard version, don't want S1 just, looking it keep it simply - which model comes in these specifications? Any from the current catalogue or do I need to look further back? I've read a lot recently on the MIJ v US but would consider either at the right price... ideally a 1976 would be amazing but realise this is clutching at straws Appreciate your help John

Yamahas! Whats the attraction! Am i missing something?
jwbassman replied to phsycoandy's topic in Bass Guitars
For what it's worth my first 'proper' bass was a RBX800A - what a great bass if memory serves, neck on it was lovely, followed by a TRB5F which I still have (however it's at dad's at the moment, trying to get him to play fretless - was my 21st birthday present and that too was a great bass... I say was, only because I've moved on an Overwater Progress III Fretless 5 and and in comparison the Overwater is better in every way than than Yamaha, as you would expect for something that cost more than double - that said it's all relative the TRB5F served my very well for a good six or seven years and of course has a certain amount of sentimental value. As previously mentioned you know exactly what you're going to get from a Yamaha, whether it's a bass, a bike, or a brass instrument - honest, reliable, well crafted and good value -
+1 for OBBM Top bloke and quality cable and workmanship, enough said...

This truely is a sad state of affairs - I can't imagine my life without playing and it always saddens me to here of people giving it up... I find it a great outlet to the stresses and strains of everyday life and would urge you to hang onto the minimum amount of gear and don't lose the faith

+1 for the black on black, must be a good looking bass even the wife was quite taken by it... is it christmas soon

'76 Precision with very clean - too clean - headstock?
jwbassman replied to Beedster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Hey guys - thanks for the advice - Must admit I was dubious and you've confirmed my suspicions... Might be worth a email - thanks for the link Chris -
Band names... been there Probably a safe bet that whatever you come up with somebody will disagree... Best advice I can give is imagine the senario... "Hi, so you play in band, which one?" You need to have something you'd be happy to tell people your part of, that you can easily remember and is short and punchy... You could be 'What the Funk' *gets coat...

jwbassman replied to Beedster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Not the only one then - that's good to know, pretty sure I one of the other guys mention this too a while back (probably what planted the seed in my head!)... I'm probably just old enough (31) for it to be a reasonably expensive project -
'76 Precision with very clean - too clean - headstock?
jwbassman replied to Beedster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Went for £1000 in the end - i was following this one, only out of curiosity... Quite fancy getting a bass that is the same age as me - is that daft? This is also on at the moment... ebay link Has anyone had any experinece of these guys? Is £1,150 too expensive for something like this? Cheers in advance guys, I don't know enough about this sort of thing and can't afford to lose a grand on a lemon... maybe one day, but that's not today! -
It's looking very good indeed: he's playing with Jan Garbarek next week, here in Dublin! (link) Even better, I've actually found out in time (a nice change), and am now entitled to a student discount on tickets.
He's playing in Manchester too (with Jan Garbarek) at the RNCM, November 17th - I've got tickets and really looking forward to it
