  1. Yes, Mickey, I associate Rockfield with Dave Edmunds. But regrettably my knowledge of things rock is not as extensive as that enjoyed by several members of this parish. I enjoyed that programme, especially the first half when English eccentricity was at its finest.
  2. Yes but you couldn’t get it under your chin.
  3. Thing of beauty, Owen. Thing of beauty. I had a Kolstein travel case that was just as impressive. I couldn’t see myself flying again so when we moved house I put it in the skip. Waste.
  4. Well you’re just a spoilsport. And you’ll be telling me it isn’t a bass next. I’ve just noticed the thought bubble coming from her head.
  5. I saw this pic online this morning out of Vanity Fair magazine. It’s of Her Maj looking at a part of the Royal Collection. I wonder what that DB is doing there? It looks as though there’s a lead coming from it. So does she do a bit of slap of an evening? Is it solid or laminate? What pickup/strings does she use? As loyal subjects we should be told.
  6. Well done. I’ve got a Schaller on my Kolstein travel bass and it works very well, just as good as some higher priced mags. But to get even volume across the strings the poles vary from full in on the E to full out on the G. Stingray Pete, of this parish, is a Schaller user.
  7. I have a feeling that if Mumsnet had compiled it, it would have been a different list.
  8. This is a steal. I’ve got two: one I use for all my gigs and the other lives under the passenger seat as a spare - I presume it’s still there. I sold a Magellan 800 some time ago simply because my Puma suited me better. These are truly great amps for BG and DB. The amp bag retails at £50.
  9. Yes Lozz, all of the above. I had a conversation with our guitarist yesterday and we both agreed no hurry. However I do know some professional musicians, really talented guys who, like a lot of musos, scrape along at the best of times. It’s those I feel very sorry for and I hope they get back in work before too long. I’ve always felt that music is the best hobby but not the best way of earning a living. With a few exceptions, of course.
  10. They’ve lifted the restriction on gatherings up to 30, so does that mean jazz is ok?
  11. I use iReal Pro. If there is a set list you can shuffle each tune into one but almost every gig I do doesn’t have one.
  12. Is Elton still standing? Just askin’.
  13. Probably none till next year now, I’m not holding my breath. When we do resume my DB fingers will be well shredded. And I’ll be a year older, that much closer to Gods waiting room. Waiting for the Glastonbury call maybe. Or not. Its all cheerful isn’t it.
  14. Percussionist. def........a drummer who can’t swing.
  15. Anyone remember The Spartans by Sounds Incorporated? In the sixties they were the universal backing band. And Cast Your Feet to the Wind by Sounds Orchestral. Great piano by Johnny Pearson.
  16. Derek (Goldfinger) Watkins used to do a lot of work with him.
  17. Is George Martin still building basses, or has he gone back to DBs?
  18. I like my jazz. But my head likes to get out into the country at regular intervals, and breathe. So it’s Vaughn Williams (anything by) over here and Copeland’s Appalachian Spring over there.
  19. Was due to do this yesterday but it was called off after common sense prevailed. So it might be rescheduled for a few weeks time, otherwise who knows.
