This will no doubt horrify some purists but I keep a stock of thin wooden pieces from a French cheese box. I use them to shim bridges and pickups. You won't need any glue, the pressure of the bridge will hold the shim down and it will take up the curvature of the table.

Count Basie on double bass. But would I have a good amp back then?

We were supporting the Eric Delaney band at Oxford Town Hall at the beginning of the sixties and they wheeled in a B15 for the DB player. Never ever seen anything so GASeous before or since. Remember it well, together with their gorgeous young singer, Elaine Mansfield. Good luck with the sale - if you want to. -
And me.

I'm also using a Barefaced OneTen with my double bass. I should think it's virtually unbreakable within DB volumes and very light to transport. The sound is solid but a bit dark, not very nuanced. I have to keep it off the floor to get an ok sound. So I use it a lot for an old school sound. But I've got a BF Super Midget on order and am looking forward to a slightly more middy tone which can be sent to the tweeter or the main cone by a control on thecab. It'll be interesting because it's not a cheap cab and I was hoping to be a bit GAS free in 2017 - some start!

I had an NS once and found it very uninvolving. I've got a Kolstein Travel Bass, ex Dave Swift. It's quite 'acoustic' but very expensive. I love it. I haven't gigged a Yamaha Silent Bass outside of a Bass Bash but I know they are well liked.
Heinz was bass player for the Tornadoes (Telstar). I believe and Joe Meek groomed him to be a teen heart throb and he had a hit with an Eddie Cochran tribute song 'Just Like Eddie'. He continued to tour the working mens clubs and I'm sure I heard he had a stint as a bus driver too. Looking him up it appears he passed away from motor neurone disease at the age of 57.
We played support to the Tornadoes at Cheltenham Town Hall in 1965. Heinz was there, as was the legend that is Clem Cattini.

Yes, Pete. Our 'fame' as a band that does some charity gigs is spreading and we are getting requests from further and wider. Hmm.
-
We do quite a few freebies for charity but only where there is a direct connection with the charity. So no working for 'organisers' or any other middle people. Selling tickets? C'mon!

I use a coach screw with a nut screwed right up to the head to provide a bit of stand off.

I'm a double bass player.

I use various amps and a mains preamp. I wish the power socket on the back was the same orientation. When I lean over to plug in I can never remember whether the kettle lead goes in right way up/upside down/looking left/looking right. 'Cos the socket is most often invisible and I plug in by feel.

I have a Crazy 8 cab for sale. It's a small, very light, cab with an 8" driver. This one was made by Mike Arnopol in USA and is of composite construction, hence its lightness. I have used this with a double bass in a large hall, approx 150 in the audience, with a nine-piece band. It is immaculate. Dims are: 280Wx360Hx300D and weighs 13lbs. If you need a photo please send me a PM with an email address and I'll send you one.

Yes, it's important to find a system that you're happy with and with the minimum of hassle so you can just get on with your playing and enjoying the gig. That means a Lifeline on one of the basses and a Full Circle on the other one. Oh, and a mag on the Kolstein EUB. When I'm going to a gig where I know there will be front of house PA I take an ATM 350 mic but really I haven't a clue how it sounds because I'm on the stage not down in the audience. But they seem to like it. As I've said before, don't be too hung up on getting the 'right' sound back home in your room because once you get playing with all the other instruments you will lose all those nuances, good and bad.
I NEVER saw the late John Entwistle use one. What are you on about?
Pete Townshend. I couldn't remember how to spell his name hence the 'lead guitar geezer'. He was using a pad quite conspicuously.

Last time I saw The Who that lead guitar geezer had one.
