1. I've just noticed a Hevos 1x10 Midget speaker in the Amps and Cabs for sale section that could be good for DB. Needs to come from Germany. http://basschat.co.u...30#entry2108130
2. Looks a great little cab, especially for double bass. And a nice price.
3. Thought I'd post this on the DB section as it is more relevant to upright playing. I have just sold my MBS150S so I've got a bracket to spare. This is the proper GK part that sits on top of a mic stand (not included) and allows the combo to be elevated to waist to shoulder height to hear yourself clearly and reduce feedback. Price includes postage or if you're able to meet up I can throw the stand in as well.
4. As new GK MB200 head for sale. This little amp is not much bigger than a paperback but delivers 140watts into 8ohms or 200watts to 4ohms. It has a four-way eq and is very nicely voiced for bass. Price includes postage UK mainland.
5. There's a lot of compliments for Pete here and I'd just like to add mine. I have just bought a TecAmp Puma from him. All very easy and good communications. A good guy to deal with.
6. Then you want my Genz Benz baby shuttle, Clarky, although it's a bit more than £350.
7.
what disturbs me quite a bit actually is the number of people i know, who i would describe as educated and rational, continue to hold a rabid fanaticism for this show (and other drivel of the same ilk)
That's probably because there isn't much alternative decent fare on primetime weekend TV. There's a limit to how many repeats of Grand Designs and Foyle's War that one can digest. I do agree, though, that BGT is utter rubbish - although holding a rabid fanaticism for The Voice, while not quite agreeing with all the judges' preferences.
8. Way back then I went to The Gaumont State at Kilburn to see John Coltrane; he was impressive enough and had Eric Dolphy with him. But the 'support' was Dizzy Gillespie. He had Lalo Schifrin in his band, on piano. Very impressive then as today.
9. Well, the SuperFlightcase has gone already which leaves a nice GB baby shuttle.
10. I've got two combos for sale in the Amps for Sale section that I've used successfully with double bass; a Phil Jones Super Flightcase and a Genz Benz Shuttle STL3.0-10. Both are in immaculate condition and priced to sell. The GB is not available anymore which is surprising as it's a great combo. Send me a PM if you need any more info or specs.
11. Small combo with 10" speaker, light, compact but powerful with a strong bottom end. For sale only, regret no trades, complete with GB holdall.
12. As all my gear it's immaculate, having been lightly gigged. Only for sale due to having to rationalise some of my kit. Price represents approx 50% of new cost. Great versatile combo with comprehensive eq section. Straight sale only, regret no trades.
13. No, I returned it - a bit sheepishly.
14. Certainly a great experience to go and try all those wonderful basses. I spent the best part of a day there and Tony made me lunch. Didn't buy anything although I took one away on appro. Still on my conscience as a bit of a timewaster.
15. Me too, and I've got a nice Super Flight to PX! Also I've got a Phil Jones 4x5 cab coming. Probably not up to Arnopol standard but could be, er, interesting.
16. What's the weight, Clarky? Can't find it on the Spec.
17. I suppose I could talk about the richness, complexity and dynamics of the sound produced, all of which are valid. But in truth when I started out the 'bottom' instrument was the DB and BGs hadn't really come into the country. Jazz was the popular music of choice for anyone with a brain and the first rockers, Elvis, Bill Haley etc all used uprights. I had a Fender Jazz in the early sixties - wish I still had it now - and apart from a few short periods with covers bands it's the DB that is 'my' instrument. It is heartwarming to read on this forum how many people enjoy playing the DB and to hear of those whose love affair is just starting.
18. On the other side of the coin I heard last weekend from an insider that a top 'name' pays his backing musicians a pittance.
19. No. Two good reasons - 1. I'm not going to share any info that, even by implication, would take the piss out of the B&G's choice of music. and 2. the thread is all about the Bass Bash so please let's get back on topic and concentrate our minds on a great event.
20.
Go on tell, us .. give us all a laugh! S
Nooooooooo
21. At first things were a bit difficult because I had weekend gigs and that meant we couldn't socialise much with all our friends. So I saw the writing on the wall and gave the whole thing up - for fifteen years. Now 46 years down the line we're very happily still together, I do lots of gigs and have lots of gear all with Mrs B's approval. So I suppose the moral is get your investment in early and it'll pay off later.
22. Sorry folks, having said that I'll bring a DB I've now got a wedding gig come up at the last minute. So while you're all having a good time I'll be gritting my teeth playing (well, I'm too embarrassed to tell you what the bride wants us to play). Have a great day; from past experience a Bass Bash never disappoints.
23. Andrew, you'd be very welcome to come up and play my Bryant if you can't find anyone closer. I'm your side of Banbury. Thanks for the mention, Bilbo. BTW, it's a very nice bass and I got a lot of compliments when I took it to the Cheltenham Jazz Jam (house rhythm section) last Sunday.
24.
GK MB150S - people use them be ause they are light. They sound sh** but at least you can take them on Ryanair as hand luggage.
Mine's just fine with DB. I can play Moondance all night on it.
25. It's good.
