This is an essential weapon in any double bass player’s armoury. It is a high pass filter that allows those strong bottom notes but takes the boom away. It also has a phase reverse switch to help control feedback. This is the Mk 3 version and runs from internal battery or external power supply - I always used the latter. These are not easy to find in the UK. £120 including postage.

Just to remind you that I have a Genz Benz combo listed in the Amps and Cabs For Sale section. This works very well with DB and is very portable in its own carry bag. I have used it a lot with a whole succession of basses and can really recommend it. I’ve recently reduced to a crazy price to clear the house.

Three of us lived in a flat in Cheltenham a long time ago. We had quite a successful band, a six piece playing Trad because it was what people wanted to hear. But we were modernists at heart at an exciting time when Adderley was in his pomp and Miles and Coltrane were the coming men. We also enjoyed and discussed classical music and the radio was on all day tuned to the pop stations and the pirates. So nothing was ruled out and I’m sure it made me a better musician if not a better person. Others to judge, of course.

I wear incontinence pants for Trad.

Good point, Owen. I’ve always said that expressing a preference means you miss things too.

Just to remind you that as part of my downsizing/retirement purge I’ve got some amps and cabs for sale in the relevant section. All these items have been used with my double bass and work very well with the instrument.

I am unloading a whole load of stuff as my gigs are coming to an end. This is a great acoustic upright slim bass. It has a Schaller magnetic pickup and it sounds and plays very well indeed. Low price because I’m moving house soon and it’s a bit beat up. But you will be getting one of the best EUBs. Pics to follow tomorrow. This is a crazy price, folks. New it would cost $6,500 in USA.

Yes folks, the gigs are coming to an end so this iconic number plate is up for sale. Can effect an easy transfer. They say the definition of a gentleman is someone who owns a banjo, but doesn’t play it. I’m a gentleman of the personal reg world - I own BA55 ACE but don’t display it. Its on retention so an easy transfer to anyone who wants it for £4K. I bump this every so often. I’m not desperate to sell but if anyone wants to buy it then why not. £4,000.00 Now reduced to £2,000 as I’m no longer playing.

I’ve always said music is a great hobby but a rotten way of earning a living. In my time I’ve played with a few that have gone on to good things - Jamie Callum comes to mind among others. And I’ve played with superb professional musicians who, even before Covid, were scratching a living, eking it out with teaching. You’ve got to be really committed to teaching: a lot of it must be quite dispiriting. I really admire anyone who is a full time professional.

I take a spare class D along not so much out of professionalism but simply to feel comfortable that in the event of an amp failure I can do a quick plug in. In the same way that I carry a spare set of strings. What pees me off is the player who turns with an amp/keyboard/whatever and a two metre kettle lead. That’s not professional.

Went to Covent Garden to see the Royal Ballet with the Mrs and her friend. Friend’s man was dept editor at Autosport and he brought some overnight copies hot off the press. So he and I read them while the ladies drooled over the dancers. Fair enough? And we were in the stalls, so a bit visible. The only time I’ve walked out on bands is at festivals where things are quite ‘mobile’ anyway.

I’m not much of a Bubble fan either. But he carries a good band round with him.
