I just think some people simply don't have a sense of humour or are German perhaps.
hear, hear!

At what stage do you call yourself a bass player?
krysh replied to Blademan_98's topic in General Discussion
It's the day you invest yourself into properly learning your instrument, you don't have to be a competent player, just a passionate one!
no. it's the day you really do it....I mean play bass... -
I already own a trelicopter and for guitar it is great. didn't try it with bass though.
I think you mean at what stage you can call yourself a 'bass player' i.e. someone who can play the bass to a certain level of competence. Personally I think it's a title that can only be bestowed upon you by others - like a knighthood. It can't be bestowed by someone on themselves.
+1. since then I have to fight to be accepted as a guitar player, even as I have done it for 30 years now. -
oops, I did it again. andy is a blast to deal with!

thanks, ordered the ts-clone.

what about a carbine m6 then? I find it has also the big bottom and presence of a full tube head and one of the most defined tone to buy.

What amp/ cabs would you buy with £1000-1500
Ok, so this is a bit of a 'left field' answer but if you want to spend up to £1,500 for something to use at home then you could try and hunt down a lovely old Ampeg SB12 or B15N combo: http://www.andybaxte...ails.php?id=188 http://www.andybaxte...ails.php?id=332 http://www.andybaxte...ails.php?id=316 These are absolutely lovely things to have in your home and just ooze mojo & class - check out some of their amazing history of use on so many classic recordings. I have a pristine '67 and I love it Highly unlikely that it's going to leave my house very often but I like it so much that it doesn't really bother me - every time I walk into my study it makes me smile, how many amps do that every day?
or this. -

I didn't play one yet, but by the looks and the name I'd probably grab one of the new epifani al112 combos. -
I haven't been in a real covers band for ages, but do also covers and interpretations either in my originals bands or projects. I prefer to play originals though - never liked to copy anybody.

ps: hmmm, after reading again, I think I missed the 2nd half of bilbos post. I believe it doesn't help being hypothetic. asking "what if..." is just a waste of time. it is always making the best of what you have and can do with it and the will to improve. I always tried to play with people where I really enjoyed what I played with them plus that I could learn something from them and of course there had also been a time when I couldn't find the right people do do what I wished to do. it doesn't matter how good someone might have been, but how much one loves what he is doing. and if this means you need a better team to spread your love, then you have to move to where you can find it or settle for what you already have. I wouldn't do the latter.

I find it is a benefit being a bassplayer. since music is a language it mostly needs a partner to communicate with rather than only being a storytelling solo artist. I find the dialog in a group even more interesting and enjoy it much better than playing solo which I also did with bass, guitar and looper. not that I didn't enjoy it, but I always think that if you have a proper team it will always enrich you more than you would have been able to do on your own, plus on jamsessions there are mostly less bassplayers than guiterds so you can play more often.

recorded with my roland r-05 http://www.thomann.d...roland_r_05.htm sounds good enough for me and the menu is easy to work with. the metal housing shows some scars after 2 years uf use, batteries last veeeery long, have to change them every 6-8 weeks or so with using it twice a week on jams and rehearsals each time running for some hours. edit: this was recorded with the roland in the middle of an 18,5 m2 studioroom on my musicstand. keys through pa speakers on stands, bass though my studiorig and drums and percusssion without any amplification. so a completely basic recordiung.

my 5er that I usually play in my jazz band is as easy and comfortable to play as my 4-strings, but all my basses also deliver different sounds. for me it's more a question of what sound suits best for what style. I have no problems to switch in between.

thanks a lot nigel. I really appreciate it. we are going to record our demo on 27th/28th this month.
...IME, diet amps are like diet Coke. All new and exciting, until one day you try the full-fat version and you remember what you're missing...
sorry for the veer, but this is not my experience. I own a pre-hiwatt sound city 200 full tube amp, an acoustic image focus sa power amp, a custom 103 watts full tube poweramp and a few different tube and non tube preamps. with a good cab (also tried different cabs) the feel and sound is close to the same with digital and tube power. maybe because mine is all high end stuff, but the sound comes from your fingers. but probably I have silly ears - and fingers.
I have done a trade with jc riffs for his sei jazz 5, It had been wired out of phase hence it was sounding terrible. As mentioned it has kent armstrong hand wound soaps but the sp2 east obviously lacks mid ect. I want to avoid the east preamps as I have one in my other jazz, so I want people thoughts on other preamps (3 band) Aguilar OB3 ,gis your thoughts boyz.
I have Kent Armstrongs and Aguilar obp3 in my sei jazz5. love it here a small comparison file between my franken jazz 4 with nordstrand nj4se's and audere preamp (left) and my sei. sorry for the sloppy playing, was fast and improvised.
