1.
Hi there, So I was over on Fark.com when I came across this video (below for anyone interested) for "famous guitar tunes without a guitar" kind of thing. Now, I know that the guy was aiming for "there is no lead guitarist here so its cool", but the band had a bass, and it sparked a (small) debate on whether a bass was a guitar or not, potentially nullifying the claims of the original link. So I was thinking, what does everyone here think? To get the ball rolling, my logic is that the bass guitar is a larger and lower tuned version of a guitar, much like a bass clarinet or baritone sax (which I know would be analagous to the baritone guitar, but I'm makin' a point here ), so they are both part of the wider guitar family. Of course this would make a bass a guitar. However it seems that a few people over on Fark are saying that because it's a double bass lay on its side that it is derived from another family of instruments and is not a guitar. I've enabled voting so everyone can have their say without having to necessarily write a big list of links etc to defend their opinion. The video:
A video of someone on keys trying to play guitar lines is my idea hell on earth. Impressive, but at the same time totally totally sh*te.
2. You very rarely get a bargain on eBay anymore.
3.
Quite so! Hang your head in shame! It's your fault that this guy’s career as an international rock star is in tatters.
I agree, he is just a guy trying to fight the Taliban, armed only with an Ibanez BTB. He is a hero for our times.
4. Such small photos for such a big man.
5. Thanks for the interest so far, this bass is still available. I have replied to all PMs. I am not looking to post the bass at the moment as I have no way of packaging it adequately, so I was hoping the pretty low price might encourage someone to come and pick it up.
6. Including postage Chunky bridge £12 EMG pickups of some kind £18 Get both for £25
7. Bump for more photos showing detail and areas of wear.
8.
2 X 8-ohm Cabs = 4-ohms
Thank you
9. Slight hijack Running an Orange Terror Bass into two 8 ohm cabs, should the switch on the back of the amp be set to 4 ohm or 8 ohm?
10. I am selling my Squier P Bass Special, made in Indonesia in 1999. I have modded then un-modded then re-modded then un-re-modded this bass many times, but it is now (sort of) back to how it was. It is still in pretty decent shape for something that has been well played with, the only big cosmetic issues are a bit of wear on the back of the neck, and a couple of holes in the body where I drilled in the wrong place (stoopid me). SOLD
11. 'Rare' is the third most annoying thing on eBay after @LOOK@ and WOW!!!
12. I have been contemplating that bright green fez for a a while, but then Doctor Who started wearing a fez and it put me off.
13.
Anyone know when these little bassas hit the shelves? Ordered and paid for one start of May but no idea of ETA. andy
Bump because I want one too.
14. I am in no hurry to off-load it, I just thought someone might have need for it. I am happy for anyone to pick it up whenever, now or in a couple of months time, no bother really. I appreciate that I do live in an awkward location.
15. Inspired by my latest acquisition from eBay, I thought I might start a thread to post delectable shots of MIJ and CIJ Fenders, there do seem to be quite a few on this site. Happily, I now own a Japanese Fender from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Here's a little story about the new bass: I have always always wanted a 57 reissue surf green precision with a maple neck and I have been actively searching for one for years without any success, I was seriously looking at getting something made by the Fender Custom Shop. Last week I decided to give in and get a daphne blue precision I had seen on eBay, daphne blue is pretty close to surf green I thought. Anyway, fast forward to today and the Parcelforce man arrives with his large package, eagerly I rip open the box and what do I find? The bass that was pictured as blue on eBay is in fact very close to surf green (it is a hard colour to capture), there was much rejoicing. Before you could say rockabilly, I had removed the active EMGs and put in some wizards, replaced the chunky brass bridge for something more vintage and stuck on some ashtrays. A quick polish and the little beauty is perfect. So here they are, left to right: 1989 Fender Precision Bass Lyte; 1996 Fender '57 Precision Bass ; 2009 Fender '51 Precision Bass And a couple of art-farty ones:
16. Jonathan Ross came across as a total plank, I am starting to look forward to his departure from the BBC. And that Miquita Oliver is a sour little sh*t who shouldn't be allowed within a hundred yards of a camera, she had no real opinions on anything, least of all Nirvana, who she was supposed to be advocating.
17. Come and get a Nobels Streetman 10 I have had this for a long time but have never used it.
18. This guy takes the prize for the smallest pictures on an eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123
19.
Does anyone else get put off when they see catalogue shots rather than the actual item??
And especially when they are so teeny-tiny.
20.
can you tell me width at the nut please
top one is 42mm bottom one is 38mm
21. Lexicon MPX 100 Don't know much about it, no box or power supply, I've never used it (it's not nicked!). £35 posted
22. First up an early 90s Korean Squier precision bass maple neck. I bought this to put on a Squier but I couldn't find a satisfactory way to produce a decent Squier decal, (the previous owner put the Fender one on). It has seen some wear but it seems decent enough. £50 posted Second is an unbranded Chinese neck that I used for a project (my decal will obviously need to be sanded off, unless you are also called Alfie). It is actually a really nice neck, very glossy finish. £SOLD
23. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123 More money than sense: "HERE WE HAVE A NEW STEVE HARRIS SIGNATURE BASS I BOUGHT FOR MY SON 2 WEEKS AGO, HE`S ONLY 12 AND ITS A BIT HEAVY FOR HIM AS HE`S ONLY SMALL" Still, there is a bargain to be had for someone. EDIT: forgot to add the link
24. I really don't like treble at all. I like P Bass, flats, tone rolled off and I avoid using g strings as much as possible. Although I do like the combo of flats, full tone and spring reverb- it makes a nice murky yet punchy combo.
